Kind-hearted Grim Reaper
Chapter 41 - 11 Golden Monster Fish (Part 2)_2
Ah Dai sat alone on the reef, the taste of the steamed bun and salted fish still lingering in his mouth. Since arriving here, Owen rarely lost his temper with him. Even when Ah Dai made mistakes, Owen would patiently guide him. Therefore, the sudden severity took Ah Dai by surprise. Rubbing his head, Ah Dai mumbled to himself, "It seems that I really am too stupid. What does ’Penetrative Strike’ mean, is it about gathering all the energy in the body and releasing it?" Ah Dai pondered over the meaning of the ’Penetrative Strike’ until nightfall before returning home.
Owen had already prepared dinner. Seeing Ah Dai’s return, he briefly said, "I am going to see your Uncle Xi Er," and he left.
Ah Dai knew that Owen wouldn’t truly be angry with him; it was just his own incompetence that was hard to accept. He secretly vowed to strive to meet Owen’s standards. After dinner, he didn’t hesitate for a moment. He didn’t even meditate; he directly entered a meditative state. While cultivating his Life Qi, Ah Dai continued to ponder over the meaning of the ’Penetrative Strike’.
At dawn the next day, before the sky was lit, Ah Dai got up. He quickly prepared breakfast and then went to knock on Owen’s room, "Knock, knock, knock, Uncle, it’s time to get up. I have made breakfast."
The door opened and Owen, clad in a coat, stepped out, "Why so early, Ah Dai?"
Ah Dai said, "Uncle, last night I didn’t meditate, I sat straight away. I managed to complete twenty-seven cycles a bit faster, let’s eat quickly, then you can come with me to the reef. I want to try the ’Penetrative Strike’ you spoke about."
Owen smiled slightly and said, "Okay, let’s eat first. You need to understand, progress in training martial arts does not only come from hard work but from comprehension as well. Diligence can make up for lack of talent, but it won’t make you a top-notch expert. You should spend more time contemplating the application of Qi, it will benefit you greatly."
Ah Dai lowered his head and said, "Uncle, I know I’m not very smart, however, I will try my best not to disappoint you."
Owen patted Ah Dai’s shoulder, "Alright, your uncle was not angry at you yesterday. It’s not your fault, after all, it was your first time facing such an exercise. Do you still feel sore?"
Ah Dai muttered, "My shoulder is a bit sore, but the rest of me is much better."
Owen smiled and said, "If it weren’t for the regenerative ability of your Life Qi, I’m afraid you wouldn’t be able to get out of bed today. It’s almost dawn, let’s eat and then start."
Even though it was May, there was still a bit of chill in the air by the sea in the early morning. The salty sea breeze continuously blew against Ah Dai and Owen. Owen turned his head to Ah Dai and said, "The weather is a bit chilly, can you stand it? Remember, restrain 30% power and release 70%. This way, by the time you finish your first strike, your power for the second strike would have already gathered, allowing an endless circulation."
Ah Dai was stunned, "Retain 30%, release 70%, but that’s not what I thought yesterday! Uncle, isn’t the meaning of ’Penetrative Strike’ to gather all the potential of the body together, compress it, and then release it suddenly? How has it changed to retain 30% and release 70%?"
Owen was also taken aback, he did not expect Ah Dai to have such an understanding. However, Ah Dai’s explanation did have its own logic. He chuckled, "What you’re saying is the World-Shaking Strike, not the Penetrative Attack. Ah Dai, there’s progress — now you’re making considerations. The Penetrative Attack and the World-Shaking Strike you described are nearly similar. The difference is, the Penetrative Attack does not necessarily need to exert full force, as long as the released power can solve the problem it is sufficient. They are similar in that they both gather the Life Qi within the body into one, compress it as much as possible, and then release it in the form of an indestructible pillar of Life Qi."
Ah Dai looked at Owen with a half-understanding, scratching his head.
Owen continued, "Ah Dai, you must remember not to use the World-Shaking Strike frivolously because once you’ve exhausted all your power and potential in one strike, if you cannot gravely injure all your enemies, you must remain helpless against the enemy for a period, akin to being lambs to the slaughter. So unless absolutely necessary, don’t do it, understand?"
By then they had reached the reef. The sea breeze had noticeably increased. Ah Dai said, "Uncle, let’s go down now. If you tie me up there again, I can try it."
Owen shook his head and said, "The wind is too strong. The water is cold in the morning. Let’s do this: you first show me the World-Shaking Strike you were thinking of yesterday". He had noticed that Ah Dai had been thinking about something yesterday, and he had deliberately left him alone to provide him a space to contemplate. Now, it was time to check the results.
Ah Dai asked, "Uncle, didn’t you say that the World-Shaking Strike is useless? Then why should I still practice it?"
Owen smiled and said, "No, it’s not useless. The Penetrative Strike is based on what you described as the World-Shaking Strike. It’s just a matter of the extent of the application of Qi. You first perform a World-Shaking Strike for your uncle to see, and then I’ll help you correct it. Show me your full strength. Your Life Qi has already reached the fourth level, it should have a certain power. Let’s aim at the reef in front." Saying this, Owen pointed to a not-so-large reef before them. The reef was about three meters away, with the vast sea behind it.
Ah Dai nodded and took a few steps forward, walking to the edge of the reef where he was standing. He then recalled his thoughts from yesterday. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and began circulating the Life Qi in his body.
A faint white light appeared around Ah Dai’s body. Ah Dai stood firm, his fists clenched at his waist. He used his spiritual power to control the Qi from his Dantian to slowly rise. Without any reservations, he directed it towards his right fist. The Life Qi within his body were continuously condensing under his desperate movement. The white light around his body suddenly converged. Owen, at one side, could clearly see that Ah Dai’s Qi had reached his chest area and moved towards his right fist.
Ah Dai’s right fist shone brightly, all of his Life Qi had fully concentrated there. He took a deep breath, using his spiritual power to intensely compress the Life Qi gathered in his right fist. The light dimmed, but to Owen’s surprise, explosive power had been condensed on Ah Dai’s right fist.
