Love You for the Rest of My Life
Chapter 2166 - 2170: Just for a Moment
Di Mingchen didn’t answer, he just quietly held Nangong Ran’s hand and said in a deep voice, "If you’re tired, just sleep for a while, I’ll wake you when we get home."
"Okay." Nangong Ran replied softly and didn’t speak again.
The atmosphere in the car became silent. Even though Di Mingchen wanted to ask something, he refrained. Perhaps, she was truly tired.
When they arrived at the apartment building, seeing she showed no signs of waking, Di Mingchen parked the car, opened the door, and directly lifted her up.
Nangong Ran seemed startled, she suddenly opened her eyes.
"I saw you were asleep." Di Mingchen explained.
Nangong Ran smiled and pretended to still be drowsy, tilting her head to rest against his chest.
Di Mingchen finally smiled slightly, carrying her upstairs.
Though in his embrace, Nangong Ran felt extremely anxious. For a whole week, she hadn’t seen Di Mingchen. Heaven knows how much she missed him, not stopping for a single moment.
Seeing him today, she mustered much strength not to throw herself into his arms. Now, being held like this, listening to his strong heartbeat, smelling his unique scent, how could she bear to say those words to him later?
Entering the room, Di Mingchen carried her to the bedroom and placed her on the bed. She opened her eyes.
"If you’re tired, have a good rest." Di Mingchen sat by the bed, smoothing her hair, "I’ll go make some dinner and call you when it’s ready. It’s been a few days since I’ve seen you, Xiaoran, you’ve lost weight."
Nangong Ran’s nose tingled, she shook her head, "No, I’m fine."
Di Mingchen wanted to kiss her, but she suddenly closed her eyes, "Then go make dinner, I’ll just lie here."
Di Mingchen’s body, which had leaned forward, froze in an instant.
He didn’t know what to say, only feeling an ache in his heart.
But she didn’t cry, didn’t make a fuss, making it difficult for him to inquire.
Moreover, he didn’t want to ask, as if deliberately avoiding something, a nameless fear spreading in his heart, which he tried hard to ignore, telling himself she was just tired.
Di Mingchen paused for two seconds, suddenly got up, then took out a document-like item from the desk drawer and placed it on the bedside table.
Whether Nangong Ran was asleep or not, he wasn’t sure. It was like he was talking to himself, murmuring, "Xiaoran, I’ve left the marriage agreement here. Sign it when you wake up."
After speaking, he turned and left.
Nangong Ran slowly opened her eyes, touching her sight was his tall yet desolate figure.
Her heart ached to the extreme in an instant, her eyes quickly wet, and Nangong Ran hurriedly turned her gaze away.
She turned to look at the marriage agreement on the bedside table, which contained her and Di Mingchen’s personal details, documenting their free relationship, now stable enough to apply for marriage.
There were also vows; the agreement included no mention of any premarital assets.
It merely contained some notes on military marriages. Nangong Ran flipped through it, finding Di Mingchen had already signed his name and pressed his fingerprint.
She looked at the pen and ink on the bedside table, silent, her eyes gradually blurred, and tears uncontrollably fell onto the paper.
Startled, she hurriedly wiped it away, but the paper got somewhat wet.
This made her even more flustered, hastily placing the agreement back on the bedside table, closing her eyes, and pretending to sleep.
What must come will always come, no matter how much one wishes to avoid speaking of it, eventually, it must be said.
Yes, she has to speak.
But with a bit of selfishness, she wished this moment of warmth could linger a little longer, just a little.
