Chapter 2862.A Storm Coming
"That's it! It's moving with some control! If we can get a proper mana storage built, condense it, and make it efficient we can have an entire floating city!"
The shout was enough to break through the winds above them. This experiment had happened on a busier day in terms of winds gusting about because of some storms on the horizon, much needed rain that would help the farm fields but cause a little problems for those who flew in the sky.
Walker was also on edge since he had stayed with this project test to make a small building float this time. He was watching the storm and was helping counter the winds. He knew very well that without a set and strong form of mana control, the floating shed they were on would be blown off course and would need to resist the storm better than it was resisting the wind currents now.
He had explained that but he didn't want to rain on the rune artisan's parade. Many of the angels who were researching this were shouting in victory as well.
This project was nowhere even close to being done. There was so much that needed to be done to get to the point that even a small shed like this could be controlled and protected from the various elements in nature. Especially if they were looking at making a floating island that would be able to move around the entire world, let alone just a small area of Genesis territory.
"Hero kid, stop looking at those clouds and be happy. We did what no one else has done in generations!" The grumpy rune artisan was showing a lot more energy now that he had succeeded. It was like the man was ten years younger and ready to take on ten more projects.
"I am just making sure we are prepared to protect this test area when those storms get here. They look like they will be covering most of Genesis in rain, wind, and lightning."
He wasn't so much worried about the fact that they would lose this experimental floating shed, it was more that he worried about the people. This would be the first major natural event that the city would face.
Yes, Genesis had prepared a great deal for the naturally occurring events like blizzards, storms, and even earthquakes. That didn't mean Walker relished the fact that these preparations would be tested today. He would have preferred mild weather that helped crops and people overall compared to a storm that would certainly leave damage.
"Then get out of here and go do what you need to do. We don't need you watching over us while we get this packed away." The rune artisan waved at Walker while the floating shed landed back on the ground. They had exhausted the mana they had and would need to begin rune work on the storage for the manas that they would use in the future.
They had already figured out various elemental domes to bring in manas, but they would need to properly incorporate that in to the manas that were within the floating rune formations.
While already intricate, the rune artisan and several other very talented rune carvers and researchers had done wondrous work. The intricacy in the designs of the gravity runes copying the magnetism runes naturally formed that they had witnessed was very interesting.
To Walker, it looked like someone had drawn a three dimensional orb of rune formations, very much like how the rune formations would manifest naturally in the air of the world when mana was dense and stable enough.
It made him consider that there would always be more to what he could learn about the ways that the world manifested its mana. How nature manifested itself in ways. Yet, it also made him understand that there were ways to make certain aspects of nature bend to his will while focusing properly on how they worked rather than just using the force of his own mana.
Before he could speak again on his thoughts about how to protect the rune formations that were not made with protection against rain and other natural weather events, Walker felt a rumble.
It wasn't the distant thunder, it was within the mana nearby from that storm.
His head shot up while he watched it carefully and saw a larger flare of thunder lightning up the darker clouds. He was focused on it because he sensed more to the mana within the storm.
'Emergency quest: return of the storm god
Requirments:
-Meet the ancient storm god class holder who has recently been freed from the condensed space they slumbered in.
-establish positive connections with a natural force of the world
Or
-battle the natural force of the world embodied and replace it with another being
Rewards:
-Insight on the forces of the world returning as they should be
-witness the return of the natural forces classes to the world.'
"This storm will be worse than we thought. Get everyone safe and sound. I will be going to meet someone who has slept for more years than they needed to." Walker's serious face and the mana moving around him told everyone nearby that he was not being nice any more. He was serious and prepared for something that would be troublesome for everyone.
As Walker stepped away, the winds pushed against everyone causing them to rush to begin getting out of the testing area. They would worry about what had happened or was going on later. Right now it was safety that came as their primary concern.
While flying, Walker felt the wind resistance in the distance growing. Luckily the storm was still over distant mountains, away from here more of the people of Genesis would be. The dark clouds were rolling on top of one another in the cutting wind currents. It reminded Walker of the times he had others help him mix manas to create unique effects.
It also made him feel the same form of lightning he had created while mixing manas. Enough that he felt he was comfortable here even though he knew that the area was very dangerous. Actually, he was starting to feel that these less calm manas clashing were very comfortable.
While he had no idea what that really meant for him, he focused on the issue at hand, the dark shadows in the even darker clouds he was seeing more clearly with every flare of lightning through the clouds. All narrowly dodged by him since he could feel the lightning mana as he moved through the clouds now.
Walker could sense the rest of the party moving toward the storm too. He didn't doubt that they hadn't received the very same quest with their standing. Yet, it didn't feel like this was really a quest.
To Walker, it felt like the will of the world had somewhat asked him to do this. Less like it had something to do with the systems of the world and more like the world wanted him to be part of the natural forces of the world properly awakening.
God systems had been a thing, having the term god class holders matched those of the unique titles like the sin and virtue titles. They could match systems or classes too.
So, if that was the case, then didn't it go to say that he had been called to come here to meet an ancient being that stood for the representation of storms within the world? The embodiment of what storms were to the people of the world?
If so, then he would need to accept that he was sensing aspects of the world that most people could rise to become. Aspects that the world would reclaim and give out to those taking the proper path.
Not all of them could be considered good since there was terrifying power in such things. Some could be called immense goodness since they would help the pale in clearer ways than the flow of nature.
Others might just be in the middle of everything. Not good nor evil. Just a balance of the world.
That sense of mana though. He felt it and could tell that the more primal aspects of the world he was now feeling more closely in the god of storms awakening. He was feeling part of the fabric of the world and its earlier ancient aspects.
"I am being sent to match the ancient with the modern so that the world can adjust properly. They were forced to slumber because of the way the world was broken" now Walker understood. He'd come to a better conclusion.
The world needed those with power beyond it to help keep these aspects moving naturally without causing a place too intensely full of mana. To prevent chaotic mana and corruption. Walker was acting as a balancer here.
