Chapter 2861: 2861. A Proper Leader

"You do not protect your territory and its future in the ways you should. You do not raise up your people to become stronger. You are an outdated elder dragon that was able to get away with far too much because you have two royals who could order you. You were too far from others to learn common knowledge that a leader should have." Onyx hissed loudly showing his full form, his writhing coils causing his scales to scrape together in a sharp rush.

"You are unfit to be a leader!"

His words were filled with his own disdain for the fact that they were in this situation. That he had to stand up to a fellow leader, or who should have been a fellow leader.

On top of all this, he was now following pieces of dragon culture to show his might and assert dominance in a way that shouldn’t be needed. Even the royal dragons did not rush ahead like this, they were respected because of their strength and the level of effort they went to for the dragon race as a whole.

Especially in today’s day and age.

Yet, as Onyx made the shadows wrap around his body and the light mana began to to wrap around and mix together, he showed the most terrifying side of him. The side of him that was not at all held back by his worries for his family or the goals to work together with them for protecting.

The sharpness of his scales and the viciousness of the venom that could easily drip from his fangs. The piercing glare of his eyes as they bled out more mana while Onyx used skills that allowed him to glance in to shadows. His tail slowly moving side to side as it could be waiting to strike out as another form of attack.

Everything he showed now was not a bit held back, and that pressure reared up and washed away the pressure of wind and fire mixing to create gusts of flaming wind surrounding the elder wind and fire dragon.

"I am a dragon, your words and your show of false power are nothing to me!" The arrogant roar caused even more flames and wind to begin to work in the area. Remmey was standing unaffected but she was not at all perturbed by the sight.

Instead, Remey was looking at Onyx with extreme pride. She knew very well that he had been pushing himself since the day he had hatched. His intelligence allowed him to learn and grow much faster than others. His hard work had allowed him to keep up with the rest of the party.

Most of all, he took the bond he had with Walker and used it as a basis for all that he protected. He was not a simple minded person who believed a friendly bond was just as friends. Bonds to him were a sacred and important aspect of all he was and stood to be.

His actions for the others of his kind and his leaps toward forming his own race recognized by the world were not small. They were testaments and monuments to what he cared about and how he would build and defend them.

The emotion he showed here was not that of a held back and calm younger hero, Remey was watching Onyx show his true feelings toward someone that wished to harm those he protected and raised. He was showing his true feelings toward a potential threat that may keep growing to be an issue for his family and the whole of Genesis if left be without a leash.

Not only this, but Remey was proud that Onyx had not looked away and done this using another. He had followed another culture to ensure it was done the way that dragons would understand. No questions afterward, but indisputable facts.

"Show me who is in the right and who is wrong." Remey spoke quietly but her words were loud, a promise that she was an observer to the end of this.

Without a second to spare, shadows and light shot through the air and formed a defensive circle blocking the claw, as they attacked with wind and flames that the elder dragon used. The attack broke some of the dark spike, but the light spikes were left intact causing shadows to be cast around.

Shadows that onyx used to hide his tail as he whipped it to the side and dislodged several scales along the elder dragon’s ribs.

The roar of anger from the elder dragon lasted a second before a deep breath caused wind currents to blow toward Onyx and the spark of dragon breath increased the flames to a bright yellow moving toward blue.

The heat was immense and Onyx could sense that it would damage his scales if he was weaker. But who would allow that? Him? Now, he had trained to go to the elemental planes with his family, they were stronger than this. Midnight could harm him with less mana and effort. But this elder dragon?

"Child’s play!"

Onyx tightened his coil and leaped forward. He didn’t use his venom but caught the head of the elder dragon and wrapped his body around it. The enhanced scales from dark and light mana caused a grinding as more scales from the elder dragon were broken and entirely torn off its body.

The sudden crack of the elder dragon’s front arm echoed before wind gathered and it flapped its wings to take to the sky. Not that Onyx didn’t expect this. He hadn’t wrapped the wings for this reason.

The sky was open, a place that dragons believed they could control because they could always freely fly. Even the earth dragons could fly if they so chose to.

In the air, the dragon thought it could bring the wind as an ally and use magic wind blades mixing with fire to harm Onyx, instead, they bounced off of his senses and only caused the light and dark mana acting as additional armor due to his skills to weaken. He still had yet to properly take damage. Barely even scratches or scorch marks.

"I let you take flight so that when your wings broke, you would fall and understand your weakness. From here you can see the damage you have left for nature to fix. Those trees and those stones could have been dealt with better so that the people living under you had something to harvest in the future."

Onyx hissed out loud as his tail swung around and caused a sickening crack breaking the elder dragon’s wings.

Falling to the ground and feeling even greater pressure, Onyx didn’t flinch, instead, he released the elder dragon and looked down at its barely conscious form.

"An elder dragon should be powerful, but you rested and allowed your people to serve you. You grew weaker and you were unable to protect them in the first place. From now on yo-u will follow the laws and processes decided by those with power. Not because I order you to, because it is what is right and necessary to nourish the future of all who work within this world to achieve peace and prosperity."

His words were powerful, they resonated with his standing as a being known as patriarch. An origin of his race. He did not negotiate, he stood as a pillar and this would be recorded in history for the serpents hiding within the shadows and watching this.

"As witness, I, Remey, stand to attest to the victory that Onyx has taken. The territory of elder dragon of fire and wind Velican will be under Onyx’s control until otherwise deemed by the royal dragons of wind and flame. I shall make sure this is recorded by the oldest of dragons and the keeper of records."

Since Remey knew what needed to be said, she did not hesitate. She spoke truly and clearly before she threw a potion to break on the elder dragon’s body. It quickly absorbed through the damaged scales.

While it did not heal the missing scales, it healed enough for the elder dragon to move its head and focus more. "I healed you because you are a member of Genesis, not because you are a dragon or anything else. Know this, that is my family there, all who rest within Genesis are also under my protection. As a leader, I must do harder things than lead with peace. I must fight and I must sacrifice my time and life. Remember this today, you are also protected by people like myself and Onyx, however, we will ensure you do not stray down a path leading to corruption and the loss of what makes you intelligent."

With this, Remey gave Onyx a nod and took her leave. She trusted Onyx to do whatever else was needed after this without malice. He was wise for his young age and proved many times over he was worthy and capable.
