Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One
Chapter 68 - 63: Boss Huo’s Little Schemes (Part 2)
The baby must be eaten quickly, only then can Ye Mingluo be at ease.
Huo Wen’an, however, looked up at the boats ahead.
Xu Xingguang and their boat had already sailed far, only a blurry silhouette could be seen.
"Wait a moment." Huo Wen’an opened WeChat and sent Xu Xingguang a message, asking if she needed to ride their car back to Cangshan Town together.
Xu Xingguang quickly responded to Huo Wen’an: [That would be great, I’ll dock in about half an hour.]
Turning off his phone, Huo Wen’an said to Ye Mingluo, "You take the stuff back for me first, give me your car, I have something to do, you can call the driver to pick you up."
Ye Mingluo: ?
Is that polite?
"What are you going to do?"
Ye Mingluo knows Huo Wen’an’s situation very well.
Although Huo Wen’an is from Yujiang City, his circle there is quite simple. His former classmates have long lost contact with him. Most of the town’s residents have moved out.
He hardly steps outside, what could it be?
Suddenly realizing something, Ye Mingluo’s eyes widened as he stared at Huo Wen’an in shock, speechless, "You’re not going to see Miss Xu, are you?"
Huo Wen’an shot Ye Mingluo a cold glance, still speaking politely, "I find Dr. Ye’s thoughts to be quite filthy, if you don’t mind, I could wash your brain in Yun Meng Lake."
Ye Mingluo sighed in relief, "Don’t be reckless." He knew there was no use trying to pry information from Huo Wen’an, so he gave up.
As soon as the boat docked, Ye Mingluo tossed the keys to Huo Wen’an. "See you, I’ll find you later in Cangshan Town."
After disembarking, the two went their separate ways.
Huo Wen’an walked along Yun Meng Old Street heading west, strolling as he went. Although born and raised in Yujiang City, this was Huo Wen’an’s second visit to Yun Meng Old Street.
His first visit to Yun Meng Old Street was twenty years ago. It was summer when Ye Mingluo asked their family driver to take Huo Wen’an and sister Huo Xin here to buy coconut jelly.
Huo Wen’an vaguely remembers that during that visit, Ye Mingluo also bought them a deep-fried snack made from sweet potatoes, called ’Piao’er Cake.’
Huo Wen’an’s childhood was tough, the sweet and crispy taste lingered in his memory throughout the summer vacation.
Unable to recall which shop sold it, Huo Wen’an randomly chose a small store and lined up to buy two ’Piao’er Cakes.’
But after just one bite, his mouth was filled with an industrial saccharin flavor.
Huo Wen’an frowned in distaste.
This was no longer the taste in his memory.
Xu Xingguang and Zhang Zhiyi disembarked at the west pier.
As soon as she stepped out of the cabin, Xu Xingguang saw Huo Wen’an standing at the top of the stairs.
Zhang Zhiyi and Xiahou Shang recognized Huo Wen’an, but they didn’t know his specific identity, only that he had strong connections with Ye Mingluo.
Xiahou Shang saw Huo Wen’an seemed to be waiting for them, so he stepped forward and hesitantly asked, "Friend, are you waiting for us?"
As the City Lord of Yujiang City, Xiahou Shang was the most powerful person in Yujiang City, and many people sought his help every day.
He thought Huo Wen’an might be one of them.
But Zhang Zhiyi noticed Huo Wen’an’s gaze fell on Xu Xingguang behind them, so she turned and asked Xu Xingguang, "Xingguang, do you know him?"
Xu Xingguang wrapped her shawl tighter and looked up at Huo Wen’an.
Huo Wen’an wore a loose black casual suit; his tall figure was bathed in silver moonlight, and his slender, fair fingers held snacks, looking elegant like an ink wash painting of Jiangnan Water Village.
"He’s my friend, his name is Huo Zui." Xu Xingguang lifted her skirt edge and climbed the stone steps in high heels, all the way to Huo Wen’an.
Xu Xingguang slightly tilted her head, asking Huo Wen’an, "Have you waited long for me?"
Huo Wen’an handed the snack to Xu Xingguang. "This is something I ate as a child, please try it."
Xu Xingguang was momentarily stunned before reaching to accept the snack bag.
The food inside was still warm, indicating he hadn’t waited long.
Seeing Xu Xingguang and Huo Wen’an’s interaction, Xiahou Shang realized he might have misunderstood; he silently smiled and stepped back beside Zhang Zhiyi.
Zhang Zhiyi swept a gossipy glance over them, gave Xu Xingguang a meaningful look, then asked, "Xingguang, it’s getting late; do you need us to give you a ride home?"
Before Xu Xingguang could respond, Huo Wen’an spoke courteously, "Miss Xu and I are neighbors, I’ll drive her home."
