Mr. Law's Official Announcement: He is a Wife-Doting Fanatic!
Chapter 17: Family Members Should Be Mentally Prepared
Evan, something happened to him?!
Mona Summers’ anxious words echoed in her ears, and Cecilia Vaughn’s mind went blank as the phone in her hand slipped to the ground.
"What’s wrong?"
A hint of worry flashed in Adrian Law’s phoenix-like eyes as he quickly stepped forward to support Cecilia Vaughn’s trembling body.
Woken by the man’s voice, Cecilia Vaughn clutched his arm tightly.
"What do I do? Mona just told me that my brother is in trouble. He already has a congenital heart condition... I’m so scared!"
"Don’t panic, speak slowly," the man reassured her with a gentle pat on her back. "You have to tell me which hospital, right?"
"It’s Stellerton Naturopathic Hospital! We need to go there now!"
...
The two quickly went to the underground garage to get the car, a black Bugatti Veyron.
Seeing Cecilia Vaughn in such a hurry, Adrian Law drove at top speed all the way.
With a glance to the side, he could see the girl constantly fidgeting with her fingers, clearly uneasy.
"Cecilia, don’t be afraid. Your brother is lucky and will be fine."
His voice, gentle and soothing, seemed to carry a unique power that inexplicably calmed her a bit.
"If you can’t control your fear, you’ll only cause more chaos at the hospital."
"Okay, I understand."
Cecilia Vaughn managed to hold back her anxiety and nodded her head.
Until now, there were very few people she truly cared about in this world.
Her brother must not be in danger!
...
The incident with Young Master Trent, where she accidentally killed him, had been kept under wraps by the Law Family and Vaughn Family, fearing the scandal would get out.
Evan Vaughn didn’t know a thing, everyone was scared that if he found out, it might be too much for him to handle.
During the three years Cecilia Vaughn spent in prison, she had always asked Mona to take good care of her brother.
The Vaughn Family’s venomous mother and daughter, and the heartless father, Gregory Vaughn, could no longer be relied upon.
To Gregory Vaughn, a son who might die young was a burden from the day he was born.
...
Upon arriving at Stellerton Naturopathic Hospital, Cecilia Vaughn hesitated before softly pleading with Adrian Law.
"Adrian... can we keep our marriage a secret for now?"
Afraid Adrian Law would be displeased, Cecilia quickly explained.
"My brother is not mentally prepared for this kind of news. I’m afraid it will upset him."
Adrian Law’s eyes flickered slightly.
"Alright, I won’t go up. Call me if you need anything."
Grateful for his understanding, Cecilia Vaughn breathed a sigh of relief.
She smiled appreciatively, then hurried toward her brother’s ward.
Maybe it was the fear of returning home, or the fact that they hadn’t seen each other in three years, but as she approached the hospital room, Cecilia Vaughn’s heart felt weighed down, restless and uneasy.
Taking a deep breath, she finally knocked on the door.
Yet there was no response for a long time.
Cecilia Vaughn had no choice but to push the door open and found her brother lying in bed, seemingly asleep.
The IV fluid was slowly dripping into his body.
...
A pang of sorrow hit Cecilia Vaughn as she carefully stepped to Evan Vaughn’s bedside, studying his features.
Three years had passed, and he had grown taller, more handsome, but his complexion was pale.
Why is heaven so unfair, making her brother born with such a condition?
...
A tear slipped from Cecilia Vaughn’s eye. Just as she was about to wipe it away, she suddenly heard an enthusiastic shout.
"Sis, is that you?"
"Am I dreaming?"
The boy on the hospital bed suddenly sat up, nearly devouring Cecilia Vaughn with his eyes.
Then, he grabbed her wrist, and upon seeing the red plum birthmark on her left hand, he was both happy and aggrieved.
"Sis, it really is you. Why haven’t you come to see me all these years? Do you know how much I’ve missed you?"
Choking back her emotions at Evan Vaughn’s complaints, Cecilia reached out to touch her brother’s head.
"I’ve been a bad sister. I’ll visit you often from now on."
"Sis, I’m not a kid anymore. Stop touching my head."
Now a senior in high school, Evan blushed and suddenly remembered something crucial.
"They all said you were sick, but was it so serious you couldn’t even call?"
Cecilia Vaughn froze momentarily, but her mind quickly shifted, and she deftly changed the subject.
"The doctors advised me to rest, but I’ve recovered now. Evan, you must make sure to get better."
"Sis, don’t worry. The doctor said it was just an accident this time, and there’s nothing to worry about after some observation."
...
While Cecilia was peeling an apple for him, Evan pondered for a long time before cautiously speaking up.
"Sis, do you know about Tyson and Fiona getting engaged?"
He had already seen through Fiona and her mother’s true nature, but Tyson was originally his sister’s fiancé!
Cecilia Vaughn’s hands paused slightly upon hearing this, and she pricked her skin with the knife, drawing blood.
...
Afraid Evan would worry, Cecilia Vaughn quickly covered it up, trying to appear unperturbed.
"I know, Fiona and Tyson are just in collusion. But don’t overthink it, Evan. I’ve found someone I like too."
Of course, this was a lie, Cecilia didn’t even know if she could ever find the courage to love again.
"Who?!"
Cecilia Vaughn smiled, handing him the apple with her uninjured right hand.
"Once you’re well, I’ll bring him to meet you."
"Sis, that’s not fair, you’re just being sneaky!"
...
After three years apart, the siblings chatted for a while before Cecilia Vaughn went off to find the attending doctor for details.
However, the doctor in a white coat looked at her with sympathy.
"Are you Miss Vaughn? In fact, Evan Vaughn’s condition has become quite serious now."
"The patient is only seventeen, and we didn’t fully disclose it to keep his spirits up for treatment. But as his relative, you should be prepared."
These words hit her like a thunderclap!
Instantly, Cecilia Vaughn turned pale and begged as she clutched onto the doctor’s sleeve.
"Doctor, please, he’s only in high school. Please save him."
The doctor sighed.
"Miss Vaughn, we are trying our best but lack the means. However, the most professional cardiac surgery team is actually in Stellerton. But inviting them for a consultation is extremely difficult..."
Cecilia’s eyes filled with determination as she nodded eagerly.
"Please tell me how to contact them. I will bring them here."
Just as the doctor was about to speak, the excited voices of the nurses at the door interrupted.
"Oh my God, I must be seeing things, is that The Great Prescott?"
"Wow, The Great Prescott is so handsome, are those behind him Prescott’s Army?"
"Why would The Great Prescott come to our hospital? Is he here to oversee something?"
"How is that possible? Even though we are a top-tier hospital, there’s no way we could invite someone like The Great Prescott!"
