Miles Sterling was stunned, his heart trembled for a moment.

A new boyfriend...

For some reason, when he heard this, a wave of disappointment surged in his heart.

After the dumplings were served, Miles didn’t eat much, instead, he finished the bottle of white liquor on the table.

When he walked out of the store, the rain had lessened a lot.

The influence of the alcohol left his mind somewhat groggy, and Miles stood by the roadside in the rain, not reaching out to stop the empty taxi that had just passed in front of him.

He wobbled on his crutch into the neighborhood where Vanessa Sterling lived. As he approached the building, he saw a black sedan entering from the other entrance, stopping beneath the building.

The first to get out of the car was a tall man in a shirt and trousers.

The man held an umbrella and thoughtfully went around to the passenger side to shield the girl who emerged from the car.

When Miles clearly saw the girl’s face, he froze in the rain.

"You go under the eaves to shelter from the rain first, I’ll help you carry the stuff inside."

Vanessa Sterling politely said, "It’s okay, I can manage myself. I’ve troubled you a lot these past few days."

With one umbrella, they walked to the trunk, and the man chuckled lightly, "There’s no need to be so formal with me. The stuff is quite heavy, let me carry it up for you."

Vanessa slung a drawing board over her back and picked up her art supplies, hastily saying, "No, no, it’s getting late, you should head back and rest."

Yet the man still accompanied Vanessa to the eaves with the umbrella, looking a bit worried, saying, "Remember to take some cold medicine when you get back, don’t catch a cold because you got chilled today."

Vanessa seemed a bit unused to this kind of care from others, shyly responding with a "hmm" as she carried her art supplies into the elevator.

It was only after watching the elevator doors close that the man returned to the car.

While driving away, he saw Miles standing in the middle of the road, frowned in displeasure, and honked the horn.

Miles snapped out of his thoughts, edged toward the side of the road with his crutch, watching as the car drove away.

Is that Vanessa’s boyfriend? He seems like a mature and reliable man...

Miles stood in the rain for a long time, so long that a security officer on patrol saw him and couldn’t help but come over and ask, "Young man, I’ve seen you standing here for quite a while, what’s up?"

Miles glanced at the security officer, not saying anything, and shuffled inside with his crutch.

The security officer gave Miles a strange look, then used his walkie-talkie to inform the staff in the monitoring room to keep an eye on Miles, worried he might be up to no good.

Miles arrived at Vanessa’s apartment door, standing dazedly by it.

He wanted to talk to Vanessa, but didn’t have the courage to press the doorbell.

Drenched by the rain, the wind blowing through the hallway made him shiver involuntarily.

In the monitoring room, after muttering to each other, two security guards still felt Miles’ behavior was odd and couldn’t help but go upstairs to check.

"Are you a resident here?"

Miles remained silent and didn’t answer.

The questioning guard whispered to his colleague beside him, "He reeks of alcohol, probably a drunk, should we just call the police?"

Only then did Miles speak with a hoarse voice, "I’m not drunk, I’m here to find someone."

Seeing him on a crutch, and not looking like a thief, completely soaked and somewhat pitiable, the guard asked, "Who are you looking for? Does he live here?"

No sooner had the words left his mouth than Vanessa opened the door.

Hearing the noise outside, she had looked through the peephole and only saw two guards, thinking something had happened. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

After opening the door, she realized Miles was also outside.
