Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 959: I Don’t Want to Be Disturbed by You
Upon seeing Miles Sterling, Vanessa Sterling paused for a moment and immediately prepared to close the door and return inside.
The security guard outside asked, "Is he your friend? He said he’s looking for someone and has been standing outside your door. Do you know him?"
Vanessa looked at Miles Sterling, drenched from the rain and appearing quite miserable.
She paused before shaking her head, "...I don’t know him."
As she spoke, Vanessa attempted to close the door.
"...Vanessa."
Just as the door was about to close, she heard Miles Sterling softly murmuring her name.
Vanessa paused her action of closing the door, and one of the security guards knowingly said to the other, "Looks like they know each other, probably just a little lovers’ quarrel."
Miles Sterling squinted slightly as he looked at Vanessa Sterling.
The security guard advised, "If you have issues, talk it out properly indoors. It’s raining heavily outside and your boyfriend seems to have trouble with his leg. If he gets hurt, what then?"
Vanessa Sterling didn’t know if Miles Sterling had regained his memory, but the Miles Sterling in front of her seemed different from how he used to be—looking a bit weak, even somewhat pitiful.
Additionally, with Miles Sterling’s leg injury, Vanessa felt that he posed no threat to her. She hesitated but ultimately opened the door again.
She wanted to have a proper conversation with Miles Sterling, wishing he would stop endlessly intruding into her life.
"Sorry for troubling you both," Vanessa Sterling said apologetically by the door to the two security guards.
"No worries, I saw him lingering here and thought maybe he was some troublemaker."
"If there are issues, don’t bottle it up. Talk it out to resolve the conflict. We’ll head downstairs to continue our duty."
After the security personnel left, Vanessa Sterling gestured for Miles Sterling to enter the house.
It seemed almost unbelievable to Miles Sterling; his eyes filled with surprise and delight. He hesitated at the door for two seconds before cautiously stepping inside.
Vanessa took a deep breath and gently closed the door.
She saw Miles Sterling standing awkwardly at the entrance with his crutch, seemingly worried about dirtying the floor with the water from his shoes.
Vanessa’s home didn’t have extra slippers prepared, so she walked ahead, saying indifferently to Miles Sterling, "Come in."
Seeing Vanessa make her way to the living room, Miles Sterling then slowly followed suit.
Vanessa laid a dry towel on a spot on the sofa and gestured to Miles Sterling, indicating he should sit there.
Miles Sterling placed his crutch by the sofa, appearing both restrained and cautious as he sat down.
Vanessa handed him a clean towel, "Wipe yourself dry." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Miles Sterling looked up at her briefly before reaching out to take the towel.
As if reluctant to dirty the towel, he held it without using it.
Only when he noticed droplets from his hair falling onto the sofa did he unfold the towel to wipe his hair.
The plump cat, Blackie, who had been curled up sleeping on the sofa, stretched lazily and jumped down, then walked to Miles Sterling’s feet, sniffing his pant leg.
Looking down at this chubby black cat, Miles Sterling suddenly felt he understood why, upon seeing a little black kitten in the yard, he sensed a familiarity.
Before he could ponder further, Vanessa reached out to scoop Blackie up, cradling him in her arms as she sat on the sofa next to Miles Sterling.
"I don’t know how much of your memory you’ve recovered, but I hope you won’t come looking for me again in the future."
Miles Sterling paused his motion of wiping his hair, looking at Vanessa Sterling like a dog abandoned by its owner.
Vanessa looked away and continued, "Live your life well now. Whether you’ve regained your memory or not, I don’t want to be disturbed by you."
