My Computer Leads to an Instance Dungeon - Chapter 211 - 172: Death Sonata
Jorent used an ointment and a powder to melt open the iron bars up ahead.
Fang Zhen and the others from the Whig Society filed out of the end of the tunnel.
Outside the iron bars.
Fang Zhen looked around.
The place looked like a livestock farm, but inside the enclosures were not ordinary animals. Instead, there were Abnormal Ghosts, Ghost-faced Spiders, and several other types of abnormalities he had never seen before.
None of the abnormalities seemed to have any energy. They lay listlessly within their enclosures, some with spiked collars around their necks, others with their bodies bound by iron chains. All of them were in a half-dead state, looking as though they were frequently drained of blood or used for other kinds of experiments.
"Ellick is truly terrifying. Any abnormality that falls into his hands gets tormented to the brink of death..." Pat couldn't help but remark.
"Getting scared?" Karen asked, her tone tinged with mockery.
"I wouldn't be scared even if you were!" Pat snorted.
"Prepare to charge. Form up, and don't let the Heavy Armor Soldiers break through to Fang Zhen," Gwendolyn ordered. "Fang Zhen, are you ready?"
"Ready and waiting," Fang Zhen replied, raising the Desert Viper Handgun.
Gwendolyn didn't recognize the Desert Viper Handgun. She just figured that for Fang Zhen to abandon his long spear in favor of such a strange alchemical weapon, he must be confident in it, so she didn't interfere.
"Alright. Maintain formation! Charge!"
Gwendolyn roared in a low voice.
The seven of them charged toward the plaza in front of the Ancient Castle's entrance!
The seven formed a wedge. Pat was the tip, with Gwendolyn and Karen as the left and right vanguards. Laura and Tos guarded the rear flanks. Fang Zhen was in the center, and Jorent, whose old injuries left him weaker than the others, took up a supporting position to Fang Zhen's left.
Maintaining the formation, the group charged forward.
Outside the abnormality farm was a medium-sized plaza.
At the far end of the plaza stood Ellick's Ancient Castle.
Ellick's castle was shrouded in mystery; ordinary soldiers were forbidden from entering. At the entrance to the castle's plaza, no fewer than twenty soldiers of the Earl's Guard, clad in full iron armor, were always on patrol, ready to crush anyone who dared to challenge the Vampire Count's authority.
As Fang Zhen's group burst out of the abnormality farm, they came face to face with a twenty-man squad of Iron Armor Soldiers.
The Iron Armor Soldiers reacted with extreme speed. An alarm whistle blew almost instantly. The well-trained soldiers immediately formed a battle phalanx and charged toward Fang Zhen's group, holding their formation.
The sight of over twenty Iron Armor Soldiers charging in unison was quite intimidating.
In this era, an Iron Armor Soldier was a walking tank. Even a Curse Sealer would be under immense pressure when facing a military formation of Iron Armor Soldiers.
As Fang Zhen charged, he could hear the breathing of Pat and Gwendolyn ahead of him growing heavy.
Pat, at the very tip of the charge, let out a sudden, mighty roar.
Pat's speed abruptly increased. The Steel Arm Shield Gloves on his arms began to glow with a white light—he had activated the Power Mountain Seal.
The moment he collided with the formation of Iron Armor Soldiers, Pat activated the Power Mountain Seal and swung his arms, smashing them into the two Iron Armor Soldiers at the front!
BAM!
Two of the Iron Armor Soldiers were sent flying.
The iron armor on their chests had caved in.
It looked like Pat's first strike was a success.
However, the Earl's Guard soldiers behind them caught the two who were sent flying. They immediately got back on their feet as if nothing had happened and charged again, their heavy chest plates still caved in.
Seeing this, Kaido and the others felt a chill run down their spines.
Fang Zhen was also surprised.
Heavy Armor Soldiers were already the walking tanks of this era, true war machines. But on top of that, the members of the Earl's Guard had half-human, half-abnormality bodies, which eliminated their weakness to blunt-force injuries.
To be more precise, once they became half-abnormalities, what would be fatal weaknesses for a human were no longer weaknesses at all.
Furthermore, almost all abnormalities possessed astonishing stamina, likely five or six times that of an ordinary human.
With all these advantages stacked, each Iron Armor Soldier of the Earl's Guard was like a monster that could have been a boss in a low-level dungeon.
No wonder both Karen and Gwendolyn had thought that if Fang Zhen couldn't kill these Iron Armor Soldiers from the Earl's Guard, they would have to consider retreating—or rather, fleeing for their lives.
Gwendolyn's sword slashed down on a Heavy Armor Soldier's shoulder but was deflected by the armor. The impact merely forced the soldier back one step before he charged forward again.
Gritting her teeth, Gwendolyn yelled, "Fang Zhen!"
She said nothing more, but her meaning was perfectly clear.
If Fang Zhen didn't make his move, their assault would end here.
"Pat, clear my line of sight!" Fang Zhen yelled.
Pat wasn't having an easy time of it, either.
Pat was at the forefront and had the largest build, so half of the Iron Armor Soldiers' battle-axes, maces, and war swords were aimed at him. He was relying entirely on his Gang Zan Seal to endure the onslaught.
But the Gang Zan Seal consumed an enormous amount of the Power of Curse Seal, and Pat couldn't hold out for long.
Hearing Fang Zhen's shout, Pat unleashed a burst of power. While maintaining the Gang Zan Seal, he activated the Power Mountain Seal as well and shoved forward with all his might.
Four or five Heavy Armor Soldiers were instantly knocked backward.
After completing this move, Pat's Gang Zan Seal was on the verge of collapsing.
Pat abruptly fell back to the side, joining Gwendolyn to block the left flank. This cleared a central line of sight for Fang Zhen and left several of the Heavy Armor Soldiers staggering—a perfect, localized opportunity.
At that moment, Fang Zhen activated Combat Focus and Steady Shot.
He stood perfectly still, raised his Desert Viper Handgun, and unleashed the Mozambique Shooting Technique on the Heavy Armor Soldiers before him!
BANG! BANG!
BANG!
He held the gun with both hands, muzzle flashing. His firing rhythm was perfectly steady: two to the chest, one to the head.
The foremost Heavy Armor Soldier took two rounds to the torso.
As expected, the Desert Viper's bullets punched clean through the heavy armor.
The two bullets staggered the Heavy Armor Soldier for a brief moment.
Before the 'blood core'—the source of his abnormal nature—could take effect, the third shot hit him in the head.
The bullet effortlessly pierced his heavy helmet, went straight through his skull, and exited out the back.
The Heavy Armor Soldier swayed for a moment before collapsing to the ground, lifeless.
First kill!
The rest of the Whig Society had charged in, but they hadn't managed to kill a single Heavy Armor Soldier—they hadn't even managed to seriously injure one.
And yet Fang Zhen, with just three shots, had claimed the first kill!
Seeing the Heavy Armor Soldier drop dead, the morale of Gwendolyn, Pat, and Karen soared.
"You're really something else!" Even the normally sharp-tongued Karen couldn't help but cry out in excitement.
"Protect Fang Zhen! Let him unleash hell!" Gwendolyn yelled.
Fang Zhen's takedown of the Heavy Armor Soldier was a massive boost to the Whig Society's morale. Their battle cries grew louder, and their fighting spirit surged.
Fang Zhen, too, felt his resolve harden.
History had long since proven that armor was no match for firearms.
The only possible exception was top-tier heavy plate, which might be able to stop a flintlock ball.
But against modern firearms, especially a high-performance weapon like the Desert Viper, heavy armor was completely useless.
Even true abnormalities like Abnormal Ghosts would die if shot in the brain. It stood to reason that the half-abnormality members of the Earl's Personal Guard would die the same way.
'So, monsters die when they're killed.'
'Time to start killing, then.'
Fang Zhen's hands were rock-steady as he fired again and again using the Mozambique Shooting Technique.
A sonata of death began to play out on the battlefield!
