My Perfect Female CEO - Chapter 1187: The Terminator Lost
Garcia and Adams were a mess, completely thrown off. They just couldn’t figure out why Deceitful Fox wanted to spare the Terminator.
This reason doesn’t hold, that one doesn’t either, so what the hell is it for?
They listed out every possible reason they could think of, and after Deceitful Fox just shook his head without saying a word, they were utterly speechless, staring up at the heavens. They really couldn’t figure out what the real reason was.
Yes, the intel about bombs under the castle was true. However, it wasn’t that every area of the castle was wired; it was Deceitful Fox’s own quarters that had long been packed with dense explosives, enough to blow every living thing inside to smithereens.
"Boss, what’s the real reason that made you let the Terminator go? We know you— even if the sky caves in, your heart wouldn’t waver in the slightest when it comes to killing Ye Fan. Your resolve to exterminate him is unshakable." Garcia was like an ant on a hot pan, anxiously asking.
"You don’t get it, you really don’t get it." Deceitful Fox said, looking utterly disheveled.
"We don’t get it? Then please give us a hint, Boss, so at least we can die with some clarity." Adams said helplessly.
"Didn’t Ye Fan say it himself? Only someone whose brain isn’t screwed on right would plant bombs in their own residence. Anyone who dares do that is definitely a hopeless idiot. In my own mind, that’s exactly what I am." Deceitful Fox explained, beyond depressed.
"Just for that reason, you spared the Terminator?" Garcia asked nervously. "That can’t be right. Only by killing Ye Fan can we vent our anger, really get it out of our system. How can you just let Ye Fan go so casually?"
"Do you know why I only planted so many explosives under my own place?" Deceitful Fox asked.
"Why?" Garcia and Adams exchanged a look and voiced the question. On this point, they truly had no idea.
"Because I’m afraid of death. Because I lack any sense of security and wanted to increase it this way." Deceitful Fox laid everything bare.
Seeing Garcia and Adams looking so eager to know more, Deceitful Fox continued, "After the God Organization’s upper echelon was wiped out and Ye Fan disappeared, I was terrified. I was scared that one day Ye Fan would come for me. If that happened, I knew I wouldn’t escape death. So I kept having nightmares, couldn’t find a shred of peace. That’s why I planted dense bombs beneath my quarters—thinking that even if Ye Fan really came to kill me, I could drag him to hell with me. Because of that mentality, I finally felt a bit more at ease. As long as I had those explosives under my feet to rely on, I could eat and sleep. I kept telling myself Ye Fan wouldn’t dare come. If he did, he’d be blown to pieces. With that mindset, I lived till today."
Deceitful Fox laid out all the cowardice buried in his heart.
Being able to face that shadow of himself was no easy feat; it took tremendous courage and guts.
The only reason Deceitful Fox could voice this side of himself was because he knew he was about to die, so he wanted to die cleanly.
The mighty Terminator, while harboring these emotions in his heart—Terminator was his nightmare, his shadow. What a joke is that? If others knew about this, who knew what a commotion it would cause.
"If that’s the case, you should all the more kill the Terminator. You can’t let him live; that would be the best revenge." Garcia stubbornly held his ground. He really never expected Deceitful Fox to say such cowardly things.
"Only by killing the Terminator can you end your nightmare once and for all." Adams vowed solemnly.
Garcia and Adams were killers, they took life and death lightly. They didn’t have all these worries and concerns that Deceitful Fox did.
"I want to die clean, not die with nightmares and shadows still in my heart. That’s why I racked my brains to mock Ye Fan, and ended up miscalculating." Deceitful Fox said seriously, "I’d rather die alone than let Ye Fan see my cowardly side. Because the culprit who turned me timid and weak is Ye Fan. How could I, right in front of Ye Fan, drag him to die with me? Letting Ye Fan see this side of me would be worse than killing me."
"That’s the reason you plan to spare Ye Fan?" Garcia fell silent, and also started to understand what Deceitful Fox meant.
"No, that’s not the main reason. If it counts as a reason at all, it’s a very minor one." Deceitful Fox said truthfully.
"Then what’s the main reason?" Adams asked urgently.
"I want to prove to Ye Fan that he was wrong." Deceitful Fox started laughing. "The mighty Terminator is not omnipotent; he can be wrong too. That’s what I want Ye Fan to understand."
"How do you prove it?" Garcia quickly asked.
"Where was Ye Fan wrong?" Adams asked.
"I really did plant explosives, but Ye Fan firmly believed I didn’t, and he was so full of conviction about it—swearing up and down, absolutely sure of his own judgment. That’s where I want Ye Fan to admit he was wrong." Deceitful Fox said, "Rather than kill Ye Fan, it’s better to let him live. I want him to understand that this time I won. It wasn’t him winning all the way; I won once too."
"You spared Ye Fan’s life just for a simple win-or-lose?" Garcia was dumbfounded.
"This isn’t some simple win-or-lose. This was a real battle of minds. I want Ye Fan to live with the knowledge that, in my hands, he lost once." Deceitful Fox laughed heartily.
"Is one win more important than killing Ye Fan?" Adams was at a loss for words.
"How could this be just ’one win’? Have you ever seen the Terminator lose in anyone’s hands? Have we ever beaten the Terminator? The Terminator has never lost. We’ve always been utterly crushed by him, completely worthless. Now that we’ve won this one time, we beat the Terminator. That’s more important than anything, because the only time the Terminator has ever lost was to me." Deceitful Fox’s gaze was razor sharp; this point, to him, mattered more than anything.
Compared to killing the Terminator, to openly win against him once and make him live with that truth—that was more important than anything.
"Looked at that way, it really is worth it." Garcia gave a cold, cruel smile.
"The Terminator had never had a defeat on his record. This time, he lost to us. Breaking the legend of the Terminator’s unbeaten streak is enough to be proud of." Adams said, "It’s just that the price is too high, and outsiders won’t even know we beat the Terminator."
"The price is high, yes. But before we die, being able to die at peace, without regret—that’s more important than anything." Deceitful Fox said solemnly.
"The Boss speaks the truth." Garcia and Adams laughed.
