Chapter 596: Chapter 567: The Scam

Jared Quinn’s finger gently grazed her little nose, then turned away. Sandra Lane automatically stepped back two paces, watching the car drive off, leaving her in a cloud of exhaust.

"She... she actually called Jared Quinn her husband?" The woman’s face behind them was beyond what any amount of foundation could conceal, utterly distraught.

"Why is it the moment you step out, someone causes trouble for you? Hmm?" Jared Quinn turned his head to look at the petite woman lying on the seat beside him.

"What can I do? A beautiful face and a good temper still attract enemies, right?"

Jared Quinn "..." Her confidence surely knows no bounds.

In the living room of Melody Thorne’s room at the Seymour Family’s estate, a lunatic was laughing heartily, and this lunatic wasn’t so bad-looking either.

"What’s up with your Uncle Leon?" Melody Thorne handed the food she bought to Timmy.

"He’s always been this crazy," Timmy retorted.

Jared Quinn and Melody Thorne automatically distanced themselves from him; at this rate, he was surely going to laugh himself to death.

Leon Rivers had been waiting for them to ask him to stop, to inquire about the reason, but neither of them paid him any mind.

"Brother Jared, sister-in-law, aren’t you interested in what I’ve discovered?" Leon Rivers said, his face exaggerated.

"If you don’t tell us, how would we know?"

"You could ask, you know."

"We’re really not interested," Melody Thorne said as she fed Timmy.

Leon Rivers almost shook with anger. "I’ll tell you, I’ve figured out how to make Brother Jared have those murderous dreams without having a meltdown."

"You found out?" Melody Thorne immediately sat up straight.

Leon Rivers looked smug. "Of course, I know. I discovered a kind of incense when I went to that old clan leader’s place. I had it checked, and it’s specially made to easily induce sleep and hallucinations. The more you care about someone, the less control you have over the urge to kill them in your dreams, thus creating a feeling of guilt. In fact, it’s nothing short of a trick."

"Are you saying he used some cheap trick?" Melody Thorne frowned. If this were true, hasn’t the Seymour Family been deceived for decades?

"Exactly," Leon Rivers laughed out loud, thinking about how the prestigious Seymour Family had been fooled to this extent amused him greatly. "Sister-in-law, do you want to expose that old fraud? I can go with you right now."

"Now isn’t the time. He must be here for more than just collecting a paycheck from the Seymour Family. He’s definitely up to something else. Let’s have our people keep an eye on him and see what he’s really up to."

Jared Quinn gazed at the little woman beside him with appreciative, loving eyes. She was indeed becoming quite astute.

Suddenly, Melody Thorne’s expression turned cold.

"What’s wrong?"

"If this is a scam, did my dad also die because of his trickery?"

Isn’t that utterly unjust?

"It’s possible," Jared Quinn replied.

But how could it be that neither Howard Seymour nor anyone else back then saw through this deception? It’s unimaginable.

Melody Thorne clenched her hand. Even though she had no memories of Howard Seymour, the thought of his death caused an uncontrollable ache in her heart.

"Let’s go find that old fraud now. Even though we can’t catch him for anything now, he’s involved in what happened to Howard Seymour back then, and he won’t get away with it."
