Chapter 1322: Chapter 1322: Candy

So when conversing with others, she always carried a sense of embarrassment and inferiority.

When one has no money, even picking up a fifty-cent coin from the ground feels guilt-inducing.

Hannah watched for a while before she roughly understood. "It’s okay, I’ll get it myself."

Aunt Lee shook her head and turned to enter the kitchen.

The kitchen cabinets were all full, stocked with various everyday necessities.

These had all been prepared in advance by Jimmy Simmons, only the fresh vegetables beside the sink were brought over by Aunt Lee.

Aunt Lee opened a cabinet, twisted open the sugar jar, grabbed a handful of candies, and while stuffing them into Hannah’s hand, she gestured and explained.

The vegetables were from her own home.

The salary Jimmy Simmons gave was too much—though she was in desperate need of money, accepting it made her uneasy, and she could only bring over the little bit of vegetables she grew at home.

It was a kind of repayment, or perhaps gratitude.

However, Jimmy Simmons didn’t need those two things, he gave money because he knew Aunt Lee was in dire need of it and also to keep her from talking too much.

Of course, the value of a gift is determined by the recipient’s circumstances.

So, Aunt Lee was very thankful to Jimmy Simmons.

Seeing that Hannah had unusually left her room, Aunt Lee wiped her hands on her apron before handing over the keys to the villa to Hannah.

She gestured and explained,

"Mr. Jimmy Simmons instructed before he left that if you feel stuffy, you could go to the yard outside where there is a swing."

After Aunt Lee finished gesturing, she began to seriously think if there was anything she had missed.

Confirming there was nothing forgotten, she sat back down to continue sorting vegetables. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Aunt Lee was somewhat distracted, watching until Hannah left through the door and stood under the sunlight before she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The girl’s complexion was terribly pale, like she was ill, which was worrying to see.

Aunt Lee sighed.

The sunlight outside the window was warm, dazzling but not scorching.

Here, November felt more like April in their city.

Hannah immediately spotted the swing hanging from the treetops, wrapped with vines and just the right touch of light purple flowers.

It somewhat resembled the swing at the old Simmons Family home.

She didn’t go towards it, but instead took out the candies from her pocket.

They were the ones Aunt Lee had given her, and also her favorite type of fruit candy.

The transparent candy wrapper refracted a spectrum of colors under the light and crinkled softly when pinched.

Hannah unwrapped one, it was orange-flavored.

The jar of candies Aunt Lee had opened mostly contained orange-flavored ones.

She had initially thought Jimmy was just a regular kind of crazy, but now, it seemed he was not only crazy but also perverse.

He had investigated thoroughly what brand and flavor of candy she liked.

She didn’t feel that Jimmy Simmons liked her that much, at most it could be seen as a sense of possession spurred by his hatred for Arnold Simmons.

He was much like someone she knew.

She remembered there was still an outstanding account between them, one that needed to be settled.

During her younger years, her way of dealing with things was not mature.

She would be proud, overly confident, and too quick to trust others.

But now, things were different; she had grown up.

She had learned how to solve problems in a more mature manner.

Like overthrowing the royal family’s stronghold for instance.

She always had revenge on her mind.

Hannah looked up at the somewhat glaring sunlight and then at the clouds hanging at the treetops before stepping onto the soft grass.

In the living room, through the clear glass door, Aunt Lee watched as Hannah walked forward, her heart hanging in suspense.
