Chapter 293: Chapter 12: Lower Than a Dog in the Family

Walking out of the black market in a good mood, Xu Mumu couldn’t care less about what Yun Luo might encounter.

Xu Mumu was holding a wild chicken, which was bought from the black market. Quite lucky, taking it back to make chicken soup, just right to nourish Yin Yang.

"Mumu, why are you back so late today?" Yin Yang put down the book in his hand, staring straight at Xu Mumu. That look was as if he wanted to see if Xu Mumu was about to cheat; he kept watching.

"I went around the black market and bought a wild chicken. We’ll have chicken soup tomorrow," said Xu Mumu with a smile.

This wild chicken is quite old, and it won’t be tender even if stewed tonight. Better to stew it tomorrow.

"Why think of going to the black market when we have meat at home? I worry when you go alone, especially with the ongoing crackdowns," Yin Yang was still uneasy.

"Don’t worry, I know. I was planning to come straight home today, but Yun Luo stopped me. She wanted to know where you lived, but I didn’t tell her, so she kept following me. I just went to the black market to shake her off," Xu Mumu complained without hesitation.

"Did she bully you?" Yin Yang’s expression was unpleasant, which was typical whenever Yun Luo was mentioned.

"She doesn’t have the ability; it’s your fault entirely. Your face is too charming," Xu Mumu pouted, saying with a hint of jealousy. Yun Luo kept teasing her about being childhood sweethearts. If Yin Yang hadn’t explained everything to her earlier, she would have been secretly upset for a long time.

"Good, I’ll have someone get rid of her soon," Yin Yang said earnestly.

"Great, I don’t like her either," Xu Mumu replied with a cheerful smile. His messy admirers, let him handle them himself.

While Xu Mumu and Yin Yang were in good spirits here, Yun Luo’s face darkened as if water could drip from it. If she hadn’t learned some self-defense from her brother since childhood, she would have been in big trouble today. She was tricked by Xu Mumu, and in her heart, she already resented Xu Mumu.

If it weren’t for some skills, she might have lost her innocence in that godforsaken place. How could she not hate it?

Yun Luo wanted to take out her anger on Xu Mumu, but she couldn’t find her for two consecutive days. Every time, Xu Mumu had left early. She wanted to find her at the library, but Xu Mumu wasn’t there either, leaving her with no avenue to vent her frustration.

Actually, Xu Mumu hadn’t gone anywhere but was following Professor An to do small experiments.

The little rabbits in the biology lab were indeed cute; Xu Mumu still dissected two of them.

"Sir An, I’ll take this rabbit home. You and Sir Shen come over in a while, and I’ll cook a rabbit for you," Xu Mumu said, holding the rabbit by the ears. The rabbit was dissected but without any mess made, so it was still edible.

"Alright, we’ll be over soon. Go wash your hands; you smell of blood," Professor An said with a smile.

"Understood, Sir An." Xu Mumu put the rabbit in a bag, then washed her hands at the faucet next to the lab. She didn’t like the smell of blood much, although there was just a bit on her.

After washing her hands and taking off her lab coat, Xu Mumu returned to the small courtyard with her things.

As soon as Xu Mumu got back, the lively little dog rushed to her, tugging at her pants.

No one knows where this little dog learned such a bad habit; perhaps it was born with it.

"Big dog, don’t bite my pants, or you won’t get dinner," Xu Mumu said helplessly, afraid to take big steps, worried she might accidentally step on the tiny puppy.

But unfortunately, the little dog didn’t understand what Xu Mumu was saying. It only heard its name and thought Xu Mumu was playing with it, biting even more enthusiastically.

The puppy’s teeth weren’t very sharp, and it lacked the strength of an adult dog, so naturally, it couldn’t damage Xu Mumu’s pants.

Seeing the puppy refusing to let go, Xu Mumu scooped it up. The little fellow was just a bit larger than her hand; she could hold it easily with one hand.

Being held, the puppy kept wagging its tail, full of enthusiasm.

Xu Mumu placed the rabbit in the kitchen and then held the puppy outside.

This puppy stayed energetic all day long, but it was very alert. As soon as a stranger approached the courtyard door, the puppy would bark to warn. The puppy was still small, and its voice was milky, every time Xu Mumu heard it bark, she found it incredibly cute.

After playing with the puppy for a while, Xu Mumu saw Yin Yang sitting in the main room looking at her with a mournful expression as if saying, "I’ve fallen out of favor."

"Yin Yang, are you feeling better? Let me check if your injury is healing," Xu Mumu said with a smile as she walked over.

"You haven’t washed your hands," Yin Yang resisted Xu Mumu’s approach; she was about to change his bandages without washing after handling the puppy.

"I’ll go wash now," Xu Mumu smiled and said.

While Xu Mumu went to wash her hands, Yin Yang’s eyes stayed fixed on a certain puppy named Big dog ever since Professor Jian brought it home. He felt his status in the home had fallen, even a dog was now more favored than him.

After washing her hands, Xu Mumu inspected Yin Yang’s injury. Now it didn’t need bandages anymore, the scab had formed nicely, in a short time, it would heal completely. Yin Yang’s robust constitution made Xu Mumu envy him slightly.

"Does it still hurt?" Xu Mumu asked worriedly, looking at Yin Yang.

"Not much pain, just really itchy, wanting to scratch," Yin Yang leaned back on the soft couch, letting Xu Mumu apply medicine. He could do it himself but wanted Xu Mumu to do it, so he didn’t touch it.

"No scratching, it’s growing flesh now. Leaving a scar would look bad," Xu Mumu said calmly.

"Mumu, if I look bad, would you stop liking me?" Yin Yang asked feebly, feeling anxious. His future wife might only have eyes for his looks, what to do? Though he had many other virtues, did his looks overshadow all other good points in her heart?

"What are you thinking? Tomorrow, I’ll buy a box of scar-removing ointment for you. Once the scar on your abdomen falls off, use it daily," Xu Mumu said earnestly.

"You apply it for me," Yin Yang looked eagerly at Xu Mumu.

"Fine, fine, you’re always full of requests. I’ll go cook the rabbit, hurry and pull your shirt down," Xu Mumu said, speechless, glancing at Yin Yang. Ever since he knew she liked his physique, he used the excuse of medicine application to pull his shirt up high, giving her the opportunity to enjoy the view.

From initial discomfort to now, Xu Mumu’s skin had grown thicker than the city wall.
