Chapter 61: Possible Mutation

"What happened?"

When Light sent this message to Elise, it took a while for a message to come back, the classic ellipsis constantly appearing and disappearing.

It was as if Elise was afraid to explain to Light.

"Is it something that requires me to come?" Light suddenly sent another message, and with that, suddenly his phone rang.

Elise was calling him.

Light hadn’t wanted to call his sister or anyone else because of the bad reception of the phone networks, but since Elise was calling him on his phone, he had to talk.

When Light answered her call and put the phone to his ear, he asked again:

"What happened?"

After Light’s question, Elise’s voice finally came:

"I have good news and bad news for you, Light."

"Let’s hear the bad news first." Light suddenly said, and with that, Elise’s deep breathing was heard on the other end of the phone and the answer came immediately afterwards:

"We managed to find the trio and we even managed to injure all three of them, but something had changed in them, how should I put it...they were like zombies...it would be correct to say that they were in a superhuman state. The fat one of them was literally burnt in flames, but he managed to survive even though his skin was completely burnt. As a result, they escaped."

When Elise’s words ended, Light stayed where he was and then shook his head left and right as if he knew what this was. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

"Mutation," Light said aloud.

"Mutation?" asked Elise with great curiosity.

"Yes, mutation. They may have mutated with the effect of the virus or other things, it is possible to gain ability in this way." Light replied.

Elise, on the other hand, was silent for a short while and then put forward a question that Light had never thought of until now:

"Then are you a mutant too?"

"Of course not, you’d be dead by now, wouldn’t you?" Light questioned immediately after Elise’s question to avoid arousing suspicion and paused at Elise’s relieved sounds.

’What about the good news?’ Light questioned without waiting.

’The good news is that the zombie hunt is going well. Even if we don’t favour mutant zombies, at least we managed to find a few orbs for you, and we’re hiding them intending to deliver them to you the next time you come.’

Light smiled involuntarily when he heard these words, of course, it was incredible that Elise and her group were working so hard, even if it was all about trade.

"I don’t know when I’ll be back, but you know I won’t miss you when I do, thank you, and please be careful if you meet the trio again, I don’t want to lose you, Elise. You are such an important person for me." Light said. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

"Thank you, I didn’t know... Please take care of yourself," Elise replied and the phone call ended right after that.

Light suddenly lay down on the bed he was sitting on and then started scratching his head as if dozens of things had come to his mind.

Elise’s question worried him strangely. It was known that every human being had this virus in their body, even the scientists themselves had explained it.

The problem was the damage this virus would bring to you at the transformation stage.

Zombies were a live demonstration of this virus. In mutant zombies, normal zombies could really be seen as an infected version of normal zombies.

The question was how the direct mutation happened.

Another question was whether this mutation could be controlled because all kinds of great suspicion and change were revealed.

It was seen that the virus was out of control with death, but it was unknown whether there was another way to trigger it.

This is what Light was afraid of.

He had to find an answer to this, but he had already found it. It was Elise herself who said that Percy, Liam and Karen’s bodies had changed.

This meant that the virus could have somehow mutated while they were alive, and this revealed something that Light had never heard on television in his previous life.

There could have been many more like Light, but he seemed to be the only one in full control of his power.

So, at least for now, it seemed that there was much more unknown.

Getting up from where he was, Light went downstairs after taking a short shower and after consuming something to eat, he went to the living room to chat with the others.

When the laughter of his sister and Pacifica reached Light’s ears, he realised that he was really doing something right.

There was a mountain of difference between the way he was before he died and the way he was now. Even now, even if he was too tired, at least he could eat, drink clean water, keep warm and shelter. He was also able to provide for the people he cared about.

As he sat down on one of the couches and took a sip of the tea Lawrence had brought him, he realised that he was quite relaxed, and then he pulled a game console out of his inventory and began to play.

At least for today, he was going to put all these thoughts of mutation and revenge aside, there was nothing he could do about them at the moment anyway, which meant he could rest easy for today.

He deserved to rest after all he had been through, at least he had managed to create a situation in which his sister, and in this case Lawrence and Pacifica, would be safe at all times.

He thought about such things and chose to enjoy himself for a day. Outside the house, almost 750 metres away, construction was going on and life went on as usual.

In Wales, in the centre of Powys, in Newtown, things were quite different.

Even if Light didn’t realise it, the danger was growing right in front of his nose.
