A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 30: Ignored
As they stepped in, Lara was impressed by the beauty of the house. The sitting room was large with exquisite cushions and it was one of the finest furniture Lara had ever seen.
The marble floor was glittering and sparkling. She glanced at the ceiling briefly and saw the giant chandelier hung, attractive and emitting light.
"Curtis" It was Adrian Rodney’s voice. The man was tall and elegant. His eyes pierced like Curtis and his smile was identical to his.
His hair was more than halfway grey but he looked smart and cute. He wore a blue polo and jeans on a blue canvas, obviously just returned home from an outing.
"Dad" Curtis chimed and released Lara’s hand, going over to hug his dad. "How’re you doing dad?" he asked, smiling as the old man held him by both of his hands.
"I’m fine, son. How’re you doing too?" He asked and glanced past him at Lara briefly before returning his gaze to his son.
"Perfectly fine dad" Curtis chimed just as another woman walked over from another direction of the house. Lara immediately recognized her to be most likely his mother.
"Mom" Curtis smiles broadly, going over and hugging his mom. He crossed his arms around her waist while she placed her arms on his shoulders.
She’s also a tall woman but not as tall as her husband. Adrian is taller but Curtis is the tallest amongst them.
"I missed you Curtis. Couldn’t you think of coming to see your mother until I placed a call across?" Lisa scolded.
How can he not miss her? He seldom visits his parents except the necessity arises or he was invited like it was at the moment.
"I’m sorry. Work and company are taking the best of my time. I hardly have time to have a proper dinner before bedtime these days" he apologized.
"We’re happy to see you anyways. Welcome home dear" Lisa chimed, letting her arms go off his shoulders. She saw behind her son, a little distance away, a woman gorgeously dressed.
She frowned and glanced at her husband. They both locked eyes and Curtis saw them. He smiled and turned around "Come over dear"
Lara smiled and walked over. She stood by Curtis’ side and he crossed his arms around her "This is Lara Edmund my..." he was introducing when his mother interrupted him.
"Come to the table son" she said, completely ignoring the woman he’s with and fixing her gaze only on her son.
Curtis squinted and glanced at his father. Seeing his son looking in his direction, Adrian looked away. Lisa did the right thing and he applauds her in his heart already.
Lara swallowed hard. It’s a pure indication that his family doesn’t welcome her. She felt embarrassed but remained composed.
"Dad, I was introducing Lara to Mom as..." Curtis was talking to his dad but he also interrupted him by forcing a smile as he gently placed his hand on his shoulders.
"We’re excited to have her today. Laura and her family are also here. It’s going to be a beautiful evening. Why don’t you come over" Adrian urged.
At that moment, Curtis knows his family are not in for the surprise he’d come with. He wanted to surprise them with the news of being married but they are not interested at all.
He turned to glance at Lara and saw her looking away, obviously trying to hide her face from the slap of embarrassment she’d just got.
"Come" he pulled her hand as they went together to the kitchen area. At the other side was a beautifully decorated dining area, just after the kitchen.
"Bro" Frederick Biden chimed as he sighted his charming brother-in-law. He walked over, carrying his daughter.
"Fred" Curtis smiled and walked up to meet him midway. The two men gave each other a side hug. Curtis took his niece in his arms and kissed her.
"She’s so beautiful," Curtis complimented. He’d always preferred female kids over male. He should have gotten one like June, but she ruined it, ruined everything they shared and truncated their happiness.
"Yeah, but not like her mother," Fred replied smiling. He’d never agree that June looks prettier than her Mom. Her Mom is his wife and no woman can be more prettier than her in his eyes.
"Are you trying to make yourself happy by not accepting the truth?" Curtis teased. He laughed again, Fred should be given the best world lover award.
"No girl can ever look prettier than my baby girl Laura. And June is one of those girls" Fred insisted. He loves Laura, he loves her so much.
Lisa smiled. Her eyes welled up with tears. She’d never been able to overcome that emotional display whenever Fred praises her daughter so dearly.
How she wishes her son can also find such love in this life. He’s not into women that much and when he did, she broke his heart into several shreds without thinking twice.
That has made Curtis a stone cold hearted man. He doesn’t believe in love because he thinks they are fallacies. One sided love almost ruined his life entirely.
"Did you hear that June? Your dad puts you in second place. But never mind, your uncle can only see you as the prettiest of all women" Curtis stuttered and kissed her again.
"...yeah, I can assure you" the voice came from the extreme entrance from the back door. A beautiful lady walked in with another woman behind her.
The one in front is Laura and the one behind looks more like a guest considering her classical dress and heavy makeup.
"Laura dear" Curtis called and balanced his niece on one hand. Pulling Laura into a hug. He held her tightly and kissed her temple. She’s really grown into a beautiful woman and a mother at that.
"Good to see you again brother" Laura chimed, placing her head on his torso. Curtis is the tallest in the family but every one is tall too.
Lara just stood, she appeared to be invisible as everyone simply ignored her presence and Curtis seemed so occupied with his family that he momentarily forgot that she was there.
She casually glanced at the dining settings and realized that the seats were complete. She might have to keep standing when everyone sits down.
She saw Curtis turned and glanced at the other woman "Hi Amanda Williams" stretching his hand to her.
"Hello Curtis Rodney" the lady said, walking over and circling her hands around his waist.
