Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 150: Life-Changing Moment
The air in Lydia’s bedroom was thick with tension, the soft golden glow of the bedside lamp casting elongated shadows on the walls. Evander sat on the edge of her bed, one hand resting on his knee while the other held a glass of water he hadn’t taken a sip from. The moment he stepped into her house that evening, he had sensed something was off. Lydia had been pacing in front of him for the last five minutes, wringing her hands and biting her lower lip as if she was gathering the courage to say something monumental.
Then, she stopped and turned to face him. Her usually poised demeanor crumbled, her hazel eyes wide with barely concealed panic.
"I’m pregnant," she blurted out, her voice barely above a whisper.
Evander froze. He felt the weight of her words sink into his skin, chilling him to the bone. He blinked once. Twice. His breath hitched in his throat, and for a brief moment, his mind went blank.
"What?" he finally managed to say, his voice hoarse, disbelieving.
Lydia let out a heavy sigh and rubbed her face with both hands. She groaned in frustration. "I said I’m pregnant, Evander. With your child."
He felt like the room was closing in on him. His fingers clenched into a fist. "You’re sure?"
She scoffed, throwing her arms into the air. "Of course, I’m sure! Do you think I’d joke about something like this?"
Evander exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. He tried to wrap his head around the reality of what she was telling him. This wasn’t just some casual conversation or a problem that could be solved with a simple solution. This was a life-changing moment.
Lydia collapsed onto the bed beside him, her shoulders shaking. "I’m screwed," she muttered, staring at the floor. "My parents are going to kill me. They expect me to graduate, have a perfect life, marry someone suitable. And now this? They’ll disown me, Evander."
Evander turned his gaze to her, his heart still pounding. "Then we’ll get married."
Lydia whipped her head toward him, eyes widening in shock. "What?"
"We’ll get married," he repeated with determination. "I’ll take responsibility. I won’t abandon you or our child."
Lydia let out a bitter laugh and shook her head. "That’s your answer? Marriage?" She stood up abruptly, her hands trembling. "Do you even hear yourself? We’re too young! This will ruin everything—our lives, our future! I had dreams, Evander! I can’t be a mother right now!"
Evander stood up too, his expression hardening. "So, what? You want to get rid of it?"
Lydia’s lips parted, but no words came out. She turned away, pressing her fingers against her temple.
"You do," he said quietly, his voice laced with disbelief and disappointment. "You actually want to—"
"I don’t know!" she snapped, spinning around to face him. Tears glistened in her eyes, but she was too stubborn to let them fall. "I just know that I don’t want this! I never planned for this, and I don’t know what to do!"
Evander felt something sharp twist inside his chest. His jaw clenched. "This isn’t just about you, Lydia. It’s about our child. You can’t just pretend this isn’t happening."
She let out a humorless chuckle. "Oh, really? Then tell me, Evander, are you ready to give up your dreams? Your future? Are you ready to be a father right now?"
His fists tightened at his sides. "If that’s what it takes, then yes."
Lydia stared at him in disbelief. "You’re serious."
"I’m dead serious," he affirmed, his voice unwavering. "I won’t let our child grow up without a father."
Lydia exhaled shakily, then turned away again, wrapping her arms around herself. "I don’t want this," she whispered, more to herself than to him.
Evander felt something inside him snap. The anger, the frustration, the disbelief—it all boiled to the surface. "You don’t want this? What about me, Lydia? What about our baby? You don’t get to just erase this like it never happened!"
She squeezed her eyes shut, her body stiff. "I didn’t ask for this, Evander."
"Well, neither did I!" he shot back, his voice rising. "But here we are, and I’m standing here, telling you that I’m willing to do the right thing. But you—you’re just thinking about yourself."
Lydia turned sharply, her face contorted with anger. "And what, you think playing the noble, responsible man makes you any better? News flash, Evander, being tied to me for the rest of your life isn’t going to fix this!"
Evander’s breathing was uneven now. He felt like the walls were closing in. He raked a hand through his hair and let out a bitter laugh. "You know what? Maybe you’re right. Maybe it won’t fix anything. But at least I’m not running away from it."
Lydia flinched at his words. Silence fell between them, heavy and suffocating.
Finally, Evander exhaled and turned towards the door. He had nothing left to say. If she didn’t want this, if she refused to see the reality of what was happening, then there was nothing more he could do.
He reached for the doorknob, pausing just for a second before glancing back at her one last time. She was standing there, arms wrapped around herself, her expression unreadable.
"I meant what I said," he muttered. "If you change your mind, I’ll be here. But if you think I’ll stand by and watch you make the worst mistake of your life, then you don’t know me at all."
Then, without another word, he walked out, slamming the door behind him.
Lydia remained frozen, staring at the empty space where he had stood just seconds ago. Her breath shuddered, her hands trembling.
As the silence of the house engulfed her, she whispered to herself, "What am I going to do?"
She had wanted this—Evander, all to herself. No distractions, no barriers, just him. And for a brief moment, she had it. He was hers. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
But instead of feeling victorious, everything had crumbled around her. Disaster had come knocking the second she thought she had won.
