Amber Sword-Chapter 585: Act 41 Silver Mine (2)(2 update)_2
"What are you doing?"
"Just supervising."
"I heard he has some skills, like in construction works?" Brand asked further.
The middle-aged man froze for a moment and shook his head, "I haven’t heard of that."
"Ha, I thought Dwarves were all construction experts." Brand smiled, intentionally saying so.
"That’s the Mountain Dwarves from the north, sir."
Brand nodded, put this matter aside in his mind, and then turned around to walk back to the table where several ladies were seated. When he approached, Romantic and Medisha were chatting about something incidentally, but they stopped simultaneously upon realizing his presence, looking at the young lord.
"What’s wrong?" Yuta asked.
"Nothing," Brand shook his head, "but I did some inquiries about local news, and the situation is somewhat unfavorable." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"What’s going on?" Worry flashed in Yuta’s eyes; apart from Brand, she was the most concerned about the success of this matter.
"We originally thought workers would enter and exit the mine daily, but what I just found out is not the case," Brand said in a low voice, "the workers actually only come to town once a week. On Monday mornings, they return to the mine area and only leave after Saturday."
"The management of the workers is quite strict."
"Yes, this makes our chances to fish in troubled waters smaller," Brand said.
"What’s the problem?" Qian asked, puzzled.
"Two points: controlling the mine area isn’t difficult, we just need to eliminate that Gold Middle Rank swordsman, and the remaining hundred people aren’t worth mentioning. But to do it without alerting Pallas’ direction is a bit tricky."
"But Lord, you, and Princess Metisha, us three people dealing with one Gold Middle Rank enemy wouldn’t be a problem, would it?" The red-haired girl frowned, questioning.
"Of course not, but you should know how much commotion a Gold Level confrontation can cause," Brand answered.
"If one person learns the mine is under attack, the news will spread rapidly, and within days Sir Pallas will know everything clearer than us!"
"We can block the news." Romantic suggested.
"Sir Pallas isn’t a fool; if there is no news from Shafdelun for a long time, he will be suspicious too." Brand shook his head, "We must control this place, let it operate as usual, secretly transporting silver to Fir City."
Brand didn’t finish his sentence, but everyone knew what would happen next.
These silver would be secretly transported to the mint, minted into private coins. This is an open secret among local lords; before departure, Brand had already entrusted Char to search for the secret mint possibly hidden in one of Gruding’s estates outside Fir City.
These acts would be enough to warrant hanging, but as Brand often said, a death row prisoner wouldn’t care if there was one noose around his neck or two.
Qian paused and then slowly nodded in understanding.
"Can’t we lure him out or take action when he’s outside? That human can’t stay in the mine area forever, right?" The Silver Elf Princess suggested softly.
"Sure, but if he doesn’t come out for a month, are we going to wait here for a month?" Brand shook his head, "So we must take initiative, at least infiltrate the mine area to understand his activity patterns; besides, to control the mine area, our people will have to infiltrate eventually."
Medisha nodded too.
"What should we do, Lord?" Yuta asked softly.
"Shh, don’t call me Lord here," Brand glanced around and then said, "Actually, what I’ve found isn’t just bad news, there are also two good news."
No one interrupted this time, as if waiting for his next words.
"The first news is, nearby adventurers may have secretly drawn a map of the mine area. I think this news is very likely true, as adventurers often do this kind of thing."
"Yes, ma... young master," the Maid Corps Commander corrected herself hastily under Brand’s gaze, struggling to say the title, "Sometimes adventurers would team up with the local Thieves’ Guild, nobles usually turn a blind eye to this, knowing they wouldn’t cause much trouble."
"What’s the second news?" Miss Merchant asked curiously.
"I found out that adventurers here occasionally work in the mine for a period. You know, adventurers don’t always have a steady income."
Yuta couldn’t help but be startled by this news, "Nobles are willing to allow these troublemakers into the mine?"
"Why not, the mine needs labor. Entering the mine is prohibited with weapons, and they can’t take even a piece of ore when leaving. They trade ore for money and food in the mine; what chaos can these adventurers cause?"
"Moreover, this matter is on Count Denier’s land. Apart from us, who else would stir trouble?" Brand asked in a low voice.
"Can’t we blend in then?" The red-haired girl’s eyes lit up.
"You can’t, I can, and some others can," Brand shook his head, "The mine doesn’t accept women, otherwise it would be utter chaos."
The group exchanged glances, seeing the feasibility of this plan in each other’s eyes. If they infiltrated the mine as workers, understanding the Guard Team’s activity patterns inside would be incredibly easy.
But how exactly do they proceed?
