Chapter 533: The battle in Ferry Island...2

He reached into a burning building, pulling out the missing child, along with three other civilians who were huddled in fear. With the exo suit, it was simple to carry all four people out at the same time.

But, he had a pyrokinetic on his heels and an enemy aerokinetic who was determined to bring him down by spinning a localized tornado to crush them. Hadrian didn’t flinch. He activated the energy shield of the suit and prayed that it protected all of them after all it was meant for one.

The aerokinetic blocked off his exit point, and the pyrokinetic blasted fire on his ass. "Really, the ass! Can you not see I am saving kids here?" Hadrian shouted. With his free hand, he launched a sonic disruptor pulse. The invisible wave of sound hit the pyrokinetic and aerokinetic so hard that they were blown through the wall like rag dolls.

He made it out, with Bobby and the rest but the ground was crawling with mutated lizards, superhumans and panicked humans. It was chaos. "Suni I have got the kids but we are in a hot zone. Any place still safe?" Hadrian asked.

Sunshine scanned and notice Hilly Grove was still unaffected. Apparently, not even Emily was willing to kill the rich. "Hadrian, move to Hilly Grove now!" Sunshine ordered through the radio. She wondered why the place was exempt from the attacks? Was it luck?

"I’m on it! I will be with you shortly!" Hadrian replied, using his Shock wave Fists to punch a path through a group of mutated eagles. "How many beast masters does this Lord Emily have?" There were too many mutated beasts in the town all of a sudden. One superhuman could not be responsible for all of them.

He looked around, very paranoid. For all they knew, the watchers were involved in this battle! To his relief, there were no watchers. He didn’t just save the kids; he pulled an old man from under a fallen roof and carried a wounded mother and her baby to safety.

The battlefield at the edge of the town meanwhile, was a mess of super human powers. In the midst of that mess were the ordinary men and women from Fortress four who were trying out new weapons from the weapons lab.

They were aided by superhumans that preferred their abilities over the help of the exo suit. Siegfried, was the ringleader. He had barely used the suit’s weapons.

He was like a magician, he just pointed his fingers, and the enemy’s fuel tanks erupted into pillars of fire. Every vehicle Emily’s team had brought, he was out to destroy. "You must be wondering how I did that!" he laughed like a villain in the midst of destroying confidence, his voice distorted by the suit’s speakers. The pyrokinetics on the other side retreated but he chased after them. Today there was no retreating, they were fighting to the death.

On the other side, Emily had a mind controller that was trying to force Vicente’s men to turn their guns on each other. One guard was already crying as his hand moved against his will, aiming at his own head.

Stefano glared at him briefly, he was busy shooting at the attackers yet his man wanted to off himself! "What the fuck are you doing man?"

"Help! She is messing with my head! She is inside it." The man shouted.

"Not on my watch," Sunshine growled. She reached out with her hands that were buzzing with electricity, sending a high voltage of electricity that fried the heads and the brains of the mind controller. She collapsed, clutching her head in pain as the mental link snapped. abruptly

Two flying super-humans from Emily’s side dove toward Vicente, their hands stretched and ready to take him. But they never reached her. Father Nicodemus streaked through the air, his own natural flying abilities enhanced by the suit’s speed. He didn’t use guns. He used his wings and pure speed, literally slicing into the flying attackers with a ferocity that left the sky raining red. "Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear, though war break out against me, even then I will be confident! Says the lord." Nicodemus shouted, his voice echoing like thunder across the battlefield. "Why do we insist on killing our own kind. Don’t we have a mutual enemy to rally against?"

His words fell on deaf ears. Nobody laid down their weapons or pulled back their powers. In fact, the tempo of the battle seemed to increase, as did the flames, smoke, cracks in the ground, storms and heat.

In the middle of the carnage, Mrs. Krotchner was trying to crawl away through the dirt. Her expensive silk apron was shredded and bloody, and she was sobbing, the mask of the "saintly cook" completely gone.

The last remaining drone from Emily’s town provided the opportunity she needed to escape from her captor’s when it fell to the ground. She almost made it to an alleyway until a pair of polished, soot-stained boots blocked her path.

She looked up, trembling. Vicente stood over her. He looked like a demon from the old world, his hair messy and his eyes cold and hollow. He didn’t say a word. He didn’t need to. He reached down with a Vibro-dagger_ a blade that vibrated so fast it could cut through diamond like it was soft butter.

Mrs. Krotchner knew that look, she had seen it before.

"Wait! I can tell you_" she started to scream.

Slash!.

With one swift, silent motion, he slit her throat. The woman who had cooked children died in the dirt of the slums she had looked down upon. Vicente didn’t even look back as her body went limp; he just wiped the blade on his pants and vanished in a green mist of poison. When he reappeared, it was on the battlefield.

More than half of Emily’s force had been cut down. The woman was hiding behind her fighters, sending as many as she could in Sunshine’s direction.

"One monster down," he muttered. "one more to go." Then he raised a megaphone and declared, "Emily Stafford! Face me! Leave these people alone! It’s me you want!"

Sunshine rolled her eyes, slapping away the last of her attackers with blocks of ice. "Don’t face him, face me. I am the one you want. I am the one that would not give up Sheldon. And I am the one that thinks your ability to bend gravity is stupid. You are like a spoiled child bending spoons and forks. To top it off, you are a coward. I keep trying to reach you and you keep sending me more victims to turn into ice statues." She chuckled. "Frankly, you disappoint me because I was expecting more of a fight from you, not minions doing the dirty work. With a leader like you, they are all going to end up dead and shattered. This can easily end if we just have a one-on-one fight. Winner takes it all and everyone else can live."

Her voice echoed through the air. Emily’s remaining soldiers on the battlefield shifted uneasily. The air around them was growing colder, despite the heat from the sun. For some, their breath was crystallizing. Much as they had longed for cold in the heat, this was not the kind of cold they wanted.

The fighting seemed to be put on pause like everyone was waiting for their leaders to decide. Emily stepped out from the shadows of her people. She was flanked by superhuman guards.

"Fire!" Emily commanded, her voice cold. "Kill them all."

A man in a black armored suit stepped out from the survivors of Kingsbridge. He touched his wrist and four small missiles streaked toward Sunshine, leaving long white trails in the air.

Sunshine didn’t dodge. She activated her Magnetic Deflectors. The missiles jerked in mid-air, their metal casings pulled off-course by the suit’s powerful magnets. They exploded harmlessly in the empty air, creating a wall of fire that Sunshine flew right through.

It was time to end the battle.
