Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 122: The abbot
Chapter 122: The abbot
Ethan then drove the motorboat and arrived at the area where the DUP rescuers were currently hiding.
They had been waiting anxiously for updates regarding the enormous alligator that had been terrorizing the marine research institute.
When they saw a motorboat approaching, the DUP rescuers initially thought another team of rescuers had arrived to aid them.
However, their excitement quickly turned to astonishment when they recognized General Kaiser on board, alive and well.
The atmosphere shifted from tension to relief as the cheers filled the air.
The rescuers quickly noticed the unfamiliar faces accompanying General Kaiser, sparking curiosity and speculation among the rescuers.
Ethan then maneuvered the motorboat in front of the rescuers, searching for a suitable area to steady it.
Brother Elias quickly approached them in his own boat, his face etched with concern for General Kaiser.
While he had confidence that General Kaiser would return victorious and alive, he still worried about the possibility of serious injuries.
Knowing that General Kaiser was doing well, with his injuries already bandaged, Brother Elias felt a wave of relief.
As he looked at the people in the boat, a bright smile spread across his face.
"I’m glad you’re still alive and... kicking well," he said, turning to General Kaiser.
He then shifted his gaze to the familiar faces among the newcomers, greeting them with a warm smile.
"It’s been a while since we last met. How are you faring in this disaster?" Brother Elias asked, looking at them intently.
He had many questions, especially after receiving troubling visions about a woman who needed to be eradicated.
Elena sensed that the Abbot was assessing them once more.
Instead of feeling dissatisfied, she smiled and invited him to join them on their motorboat.
"It’s challenging, but we’re managing to do better. If you don’t mind, Brother Elias, please join us in the motorboat."
The other members urged their leader to seek refuge in the motorboat after realizing that their own motorboat had been badly damaged and could not be salvaged following the battle between General Kaiser and the alligator.
"Well, if you insist. Thanks."
Meanwhile, Lydia was asking the rescuers about her parents, her anxiety growing with each passing moment.
First, there was the disaster, and now the mutated beast; she had witnessed the overwhelming destruction caused by both.
She desperately longed to see her parents to calm her racing thoughts.
After a few tense moments, Lydia finally received news about her parents; they were in the last row.
She quickly asked Elena to borrow an inflatable boat so she could find them.
"That’s great! You finally found your parents. Invite them to join us on the motorboat," Elena encouraged.
Seeing how supportive Elena was, Lydia felt grateful and quickly prepared the boat. "Thanks, I’ll be back right away."
Understanding her situation, Oslo offered to help, and together they set out to find her parents.
As they rowed, they carefully checked the other boats.
It was difficult to see each other’s faces, as everyone was bundled up, trying to stay dry and protect themselves from the fog.
This was one of the reasons Lydia anxiously wanted to know about her parents’ situation.
The thick fog not only obscured visibility but also posed health risks, as prolonged exposure could lead to illness.
Feeling helpless and distant, she worried that if they were unwell, she wouldn’t be able to care for them or provide the support they needed in such a vulnerable moment.
After a few minutes, Lydia finally saw her parents hugging each other, shielding themselves from the cold air.
She quickly called out, "Mom, Dad!"
Hearing someone call their names, Mr. and Mrs. Bennette looked up, curiosity in their eyes. When they saw their daughter, their smiles never faltered.
"Lydia!" they exclaimed in unison.
A warm reunion unfolded as they embraced, sharing their experiences while hurrying back to the motorboat.
Meanwhile, Ethan was looking at the abbot with suspicion. He kept asking random questions about the disaster and how they managed to look well.
It seemed he wanted to uncover something without making them feel uncomfortable.
"It seems you’re doing well and prepared for this disaster. Do you perhaps know that these disasters are coming?" Brother Elias said, with a wry smile.
He was puzzled by why the heavens seemed intent on eradicating Elena. Her demeanor was admirable; she never crossed a line unless provoked.
He couldn’t quite gauge her, as something was obscuring her aura, which was why he kept asking questions.
"What are you talking about, Brother Elias? We’re just lucky we hoarded food while moving to our new home."
"Is that so? Then your luck must be top-notch."
"I feel the same way. But why does it seem like you want to gauge us, Brother Elias? Is something wrong?"
Elena could sense that the abbot was now trying to force them to reveal their cards.
She knew he was good, having helped her many times in the past. Perhaps he was just concerned, but she still felt the need to take precautions.
"I see, your au—" Brother Elias was about to respond, but his attention was captured by Lydia as she assisted her parents. He couldn’t help but stare at her.
’This woman doesn’t have an aura either. How can they hide their aura from us? Is this why the heavens want to eradicate Elena? Perhaps she has found a way to do so.’
"Interesting," he whispered, intrigued.
"If there’s nothing else, let’s head back. Our home is just three kilometers from the military base. We’ll assist you," Elena said, eager to repay her debts from her past life.
If they couldn’t be friends or part of her team, she would keep things civil—there was no need to make enemies.
She would assist them with food and necessities, but beyond that, she wouldn’t get involved.
Yes, they had helped her and Ethan significantly in the past, but this time she vowed to be selfish and focus solely on her family. Call her an ingrate, but so what? Her family’s safety was now her top priority.
Seeing Elena about to stand up, General Kaiser felt frustrated and glanced at the abbot, urging him to speak.
If they left now, they might miss their opportunity, as this disaster was unpredictable.
"Do you know that someone—no, something-is trying to eradicate you?" Brother Elias said, glancing at Elena as he revealed a few of his cards.
Ethan was stunned, his eyes turning cold as he asked the abbot to elaborate. "What do you mean? Someone is trying to kill my wife?"
"I already said it, yes."
"Is it the Heather family?" Ethan asked.
"What does the Heather family—" Brother Elias began to respond, but Elena cut him off.
"Yes, the Heather family is trying to eradicate me, but so what? They can come if they want; I’ll be ready to welcome them," Elena said defiantly.
Brother Elias was stunned by her interruption. Upon seeing the glare in her eyes, filled with a warning to stop talking, he raised his brows and smiled at her.
"So you already knew?"
He could tell that Elena didn’t want anyone to know that the Heavens were the ones trying to eliminate her.
’This woman has a lot of secrets. But why won’t she tell her husband? Does she think she can fight the Heavens alone?’
"It was so blatant, I couldn’t help but sneer," Elena said with disdain, glancing upward. Then she turned her cold gaze to the abbot. "Are you with them?"
"Just a bystander. No need to worry; I’m just curious why they’re so adamant about eradicating you," he replied.
"I hope so," Elena said, gauging the abbot’s true intentions.
But Ethan was angry. "The Heather family wants to eradicate you? For what reason?"
"I’ll tell you the reason later, okay? Calm down!" Elena replied, squeezing his hand.
She would explain that the Heavens, not the Heathers, wanted to eliminate her because of the space, carefully hiding the real reason—that it had to do with her rebirth and her time ability.
"Wife, you better tell me everything you know later, okay?" Ethan pleaded, his voice laced with concern. He was afraid that something might happen to his beloved wife.
Brother Elias and General Kaiser, witnessing the couple’s affectionate exchange, retreated to the other side, making their presence less noticeable.
"What are you doing? Are you trying to make them hate us?" General Kaiser whispered.
"I’m just trying to get to know them better," Brother Elias replied.
"So, what’s your conclusion?" General Kaiser pressed.
"Elena knows something tied to this disaster and the unknown creature invasion. Let’s focus on rescuing the people first, and then we can visit them at their home."
"Try to be as easygoing as you can. It seems like you’re interrogating them," General Kaiser suggested, recalling the tension from earlier.
"Is that so? But I was just asking politely," Brother Elias defended himself, a hint of indignation in his tone.
General Kaiser didn’t reply, resting his head back as they returned to the military camp.
’He keeps telling me I’m stubborn, but look at him—he’s more stubborn than I am.’
