Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Equity Transfer

It was already evening when they arrived at the garden estate.

Along the way, Celia Sterling saw the idyllic mountains and forests from the brochure. As dusk fell, the scenery didn’t look as stunning as the polished photos, but the view was far more expansive than any picture could capture. The landscape, a sweeping vista of reds, yellows, and greens, was breathtakingly refreshing.

"It’s so beautiful!" Celia Sterling had already taken out her phone, snapping several shots and promptly sharing them with Kian Sterling.

Silas Norwood glanced down at her chat window with Kian Sterling.

It was filled with daily pleasantries, but the frequency of their chats was high. Silas Norwood said slowly, "When we head back, Cece should pick a basket of oranges for Kade herself."

Before Celia Sterling could say anything, a video call from Kian Sterling came through.

Silas Norwood could only think, ’...He really can’t wait a single moment.’

Celia Sterling slid off Silas Norwood’s lap and sat up straight and proper beside him before answering the video call. "Brother."

On the other end, Kian Sterling was also in a car. The signal wasn’t great, and his devilishly handsome face was somewhat obscured by the brilliant nightscape. "You’re in Silverwood?"

"We’re here! Jorvik is so beautiful!" Celia Sterling chattered on, describing the garden estate. "It’s supposed to rain in a few days. I’ve never seen the dreamlike, misty rains of Jorvik before. I’ll send you pictures then."

"Mm, have fun."

"They have lots of oranges here, too. I’ll pick a basket to bring back for you." Seeing the city lights streaking by on his end, Celia Sterling asked casually, "Brother, why aren’t you home yet? It’s so late."

"I have a business dinner," Kian Sterling replied nonchalantly. "You’re in an unfamiliar place, so behave yourself. Listen to Silas Norwood, and make sure you take bodyguards whenever you go out."

"Don’t worry about me. You should get back and rest early, too."

"Okay. Where’s Silas Norwood?"

The screen turned to face Silas Norwood.

Silas Norwood offered a polite greeting. "Kade."

"Take good care of her," Kian Sterling instructed gravely.

Silas Norwood hummed softly. "Don’t worry, Kade. She is your biological sister, and also... my treasured wife."

His tone placed a slight emphasis on the words "biological sister." It was unclear if Kian Sterling caught the nuance, but he just gave a noncommittal "mm" and hung up.

「Port Sovereign.」

An extended-length luxury van drove from the airport toward the Blackwater Creek villa. The flowing city lights reflected on Kian Sterling’s cold face. Evan Rhodes, who had come to pick him up, sat beside him, quietly briefing him on the situation in Port Sovereign. He said respectfully:

"The equity transition is complete. We just need you to do a final confirmation with the legal team here. It might take some time, as there’s a lot of material."

Kian Sterling’s expression was frigid. "What about the Sutton Family?"

"We’ve scheduled a meeting for tomorrow morning. Oh, and about Miss Summer Sutton..." Evan Rhodes watched Kian Sterling’s expression carefully. "At such a critical time in the equity transfer, I have no idea what Miss Sutton was thinking, but she’s run off to Oakhaven. Her agent said it’s to gather experience for a new role."

"Did she do anything unusual before going to Oakhaven?"

"Nothing out of the ordinary. However, the Sutton Family is trying to win her over by playing the sentiment card. We received word from Eldest Young Master Sutton, Wyatt Sutton, that the Second Young Master Sutton retrieved Senior Lowell’s medical records from back then and gave them to Miss Sutton."

Kian Sterling’s gaze fell on the cold, dark sky outside the car window. He let out an indifferent scoff and said no more.

The lights in Port Sovereign’s most reputable law firm stayed on all night.

In the morning, when Kian Sterling left the law firm, several of its top lawyers personally saw him out.

"Regarding this matter..." Kian Sterling began, leaving the sentence unfinished.

The lead lawyer, Lawyer Hollis, straightened up. "Rest assured, Ninth Master. We will keep our lips sealed regarding Miss Sutton’s affairs and will never disclose client privacy to anyone without authorization."

Kian Sterling nodded slightly. "Thank you."

Lawyer Hollis replied, "It’s our duty. We’re going to the hospital this morning. Will you be joining us, Ninth Master?"

"No need. Evan Rhodes will go with you." Kian Sterling looked at Evan Rhodes. "You know what to do?"

"I do. It’s just that, if Miss Summer Sutton asks..."

"Since she went to Oakhaven, she won’t dare to ask." Kian Sterling left Evan Rhodes with this cryptic remark and departed.

「Port Sovereign Private Hospital.」

VIP Intensive Care Unit. After being resuscitated yet again, Kenneth Sutton opened his eyes to see a group of lawyers standing before him.

Summer Sutton was there too. Her face was slightly pale, her expression hidden behind sunglasses. Dressed in a simple long-sleeved shirt and pants, she had a reserved aura, a stark contrast to her usual prickly and sensitive demeanor.

The Second Young Master Sutton was there, of course, but so was the Eldest Young Master Sutton today. Perhaps to prevent the Second Young Master and Summer Sutton from striking a secret deal in the hospital right after the equity transfer, Wyatt Sutton had also brought his own legal team, making the already spacious hospital room feel instantly crowded and suffocating.

Kenneth Sutton gasped for breath several times before his gaze fell on Lawyer Hollis. "What are the results of the paternity test?"

He was calm. Wyatt Sutton and Brian Sutton also looked unconcerned, as if it were a routine matter. Only Summer Sutton’s long nails were digging into her palms. She kept her head slightly bowed, feigning composure, but remained silent.

Lawyer Hollis nodded. "The test results show that Mr. Kenneth Sutton and Miss Summer Sutton are, of course, biologically related. The paternity report has been filed and is legally binding. We also recommend that Mr. Kenneth Sutton archive the samples, so that... should the need arise at any time, another test can be performed."

At these words, the Suttons remained as calm as if this was the only logical outcome. Only Summer Sutton felt her mind go blank. Her eyes, hidden behind the sunglasses, were filled with confusion. Yet, she was cautious, not daring to move or ask any questions, feeling like a fish on the chopping block, silently awaiting her fate.

’She could no longer understand Kian Sterling.’

’She only knew that regardless of the test results, Kian Sterling’s machinations were definitely behind it.’

’She had been based in Port Sovereign for years and had experienced countless disputes in the entertainment industry. She knew the legal teams here well. Even if Kian Sterling was incredibly resourceful, he couldn’t possibly infiltrate Port Sovereign’s most prestigious law firm to pull off such an audacious deception. If the law firm said it was real, then the test results had to be real.’

’But... after her trip to Oakhaven, she knew with certainty: how could the paternity test with Kenneth Sutton possibly be real?’

’And yet, it was real...’

’Such an absurd result.’

Summer Sutton looked at Evan Rhodes. He stood to the side, his expression calm. In his demeanor, she saw the attitude of Kian Sterling, the man he represented: ’this result was still within his control.’

’So, what was Kian Sterling planning to do? Was he really willing to give the shares back to her?’

’And... did he know her true identity or not?’

Her mind was a chaotic mess, but Summer Sutton didn’t dare say a word, only feigning calmness as she waited for what came next.

"Since there’s no problem with the test, did you bring the equity transfer contract? While I’m still lucid, why don’t you have Summer sign it in front of me." Kenneth Sutton coughed heavily, his face a deathly pale, looking even more lifeless than a few days ago. "Also, The Ninth Master is one of the parties involved. He should be here to handle the handover with Summer in person."

"The Ninth Master has already signed. And to be safe, this equity contract has been legally certified in both Metropia and Port Sovereign, making it legally binding." Lawyer Hollis paused. "Furthermore, Miss Summer Sutton has also already signed. The equity transfer took effect before eight o’clock this morning, completing the full handover between Mr. Kian Sterling and Miss Summer Sutton."

"How could it be so fast?" the Second Young Master Sutton was the first to jump to his feet, his eyes fixed on Summer Sutton’s face. "Summer, when did you sign it?"
