Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 61: Broken Tablet?
Chapter 61: Broken Tablet?
"What’s the trigger word again that my granddaughter told us?" Grandpa Caldwell asked, trying to remember the emergency word.
Little Mia, who found the adults’ conversation boring, finally saw her chance to speak.
"I know, Gwandpa!" she declared, striking a heroic pose.
Everyone raised their brows in surprise.
But before she could say more, Poochi barked, interrupting her train of thought. Her attention now shifted to Poochi.
"Aw~aw~~awwww!"
’I also know.’
Seeing Poochi return only frustrated her. Poochi and Mimi had been playing nearby, leaving her alone with her mother in the medical house.
She knew Poochi was exercising, but to her, it felt like they were having fun without her.
She crossed her arms and gave a cute glare and said, "So you’re back, huh? Good... good... you really left me all alone."
Everyone was amused by the antics of this little lady. Her father, Uncle Antony, couldn’t help but smack his forehead with his hands.
’Oh, why is my daughter so adorably domineering?’
Little Mia continued, "You better expwain, or else Little Mia won’t pway with you!"
Poochi quickly defended himself, "Aw~aww~aawww!"
’Master wants me to exercise, or else I won’t get any food!’
Aunt Liza watched the playful exchange between the two and couldn’t help but chuckle. "Little Mia, you can’t scold Poochi anymore. He’s your best friend! You two can talk later."
But Little Mia stood her ground, still glaring cutely at the innocent Poochi.
To redirect the conversation, Aunt Liza prompted, "Okay, what’s the trigger word again?"
Hearing this, Little Mia immediately forgot about Poochi and returned to her heroic stance. "It’s... umm... oh, it’s... Emewgency!"
Everyone actually knew the trigger word, but they didn’t want to dampen Little Mia’s confidence.
However, after several minutes of waiting, Elena still hadn’t shown up. Five more minutes passed, and concern started to grow among them.
"That’s the correct trigger word. So, sister-in-law must know we’re calling her, right?" Xander said, his voice tinged with urgency.
Little Mia’s excitement faded, and she felt stunned, her eyes welling up with tears.
’Sis Ewe was the one who taught Little Mia the word, but Sis Ewe did not come.’
Seeing Little Mia on the verge of tears, Mr. Ford said, "Maybe it’s because of the pronunciation. Let Little Mia say the word again."
"Emergency," Little Mia pronounced clearly, her confidence restored.
But after a moment of waiting, nothing happened. Concern spread among the group as they pondered why the trigger word hadn’t worked.
"Is the Golden Tablet... hmmm... broken?" Oslo asked.
If Elena were here, she would certainly scold him for calling the Golden Tablet broken.
’What broken tablet? You all just don’t know how to use it!’
"Golden Tablet!!! Yes, it could only respond to someone with a mark. Since Little Mia isn’t marked yet, the Golden Tablet won’t recognize her command," Mr. Ford explained.
Aunt Liza, feeling nervous for both Elena and Ethan, shouted, "Emergency!"
Yet still, nothing happened. Everyone was racking their brains for a solution.
Then, suddenly, Grandpa Caldwell spoke up, "Emergency," and a DING [Emergency] echoed in his mind.
"It works! I heard a DING [Emergency] in my mind! Hahaha! In-laws are right; you need to be marked. Plus, you must think of Elena and convey your intention," he exclaimed.
A few minutes later, Elena and Ethan came into view.
Elena looked at them in confusion; their expressions weren’t of panic but of embarrassment.
Yes, they were embarrassed. They had racked their brains for several minutes over a simple solution, only to find themselves in this awkward situation.
’What happened? What kind of emergency that made everyone here present?’
Little Mia was the one to break the silence, running happily toward Elena.
"Sis Ewe, I miss you! Are you going to pway with me now?"
But Aunt Elena quickly interrupted, "Little Mia, go play with Poochi for a while. Your grandpas need to discuss something."
Understanding that the adults would dive into boring topics, Little Mia readily agreed. "Let’s go, Poochi! Let’s pway over there!"
Everyone exchanged amused glances at Little Mia, who had just been arguing with Poochi moments before.
’Ahh, kids.’
Without further ado, Ethan immediately asked, "What emergency are you referring to? What happened?"
Oslo replied, "The situation in City B isn’t looking good."
He immediately told them about the situation between City A and City B, prompting Ethan to choose the best path for them without compromising their safety.
Hearing this, Elena realizes she knows little about this current event from her past life. She was too busy dealing with her Uncle William’s scheme.
"I see. So, City B is now overrun with criminals," Ethan sighed. "Unfortunately, we can’t turn back anymore. City F is inaccessible due to the collapsed mountain on the road."
"We’ll cross through City B; don’t worry. We’ll be extra careful," Elena assured him.
Grandpa Caldwell, still concerned, urged them to be vigilant. Turning to Elena, and said, "If things get worse and you need backup, just pull me out to your location. My bones may look old, but I can still fight well."
Elena couldn’t help but laugh at her grandfather’s antics.
"We will, Grandpa," she replied, reassuring him.
After remembering the armored vehicle, Oslo then mentioned it to Ethan and said, "Chief, the armored vehicle is already here. Maybe you can use it later when you’re in City B."
Ethan raised his brows in interest and nodded for Oslo to guide him to the armored vehicle.
"Look at this impressive Armored Vehicle!" Oslo exclaimed.
Ethan then asked about the modifications, and Oslo eagerly described the changes they had implemented.
While Ethan inspected the armored vehicle, Elena updated the group on the aftermath of the tsunami and the current government situation.
"Well, sadly, the sudden earthquake left the people in City C vulnerable, followed by a tsunami that caught them off guard. The death toll is unprecedented... too many," she said with a feeling of helplessness.
Aunt Liza, worried for their safety, advised, "You must be extremely careful, especially going to City B. All those refugees will likely head there, considering the road to City F has collapsed. They might do something desperate. Humans are incredibly unpredictable, especially when laws aren’t effective."
"I know, Aunt. Ethan and I will definitely exercise caution," Elena promised.
Once Ethan returned from inspecting the Armored Vehicle, they quickly left the area, aware that time was running out. Elena couldn’t shake the feeling that the storm would hit soon.
