Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 65: This is the true me
Chapter 65: This is the true me
Ethan checked his wife carefully for any signs of harm. Thankfully, there were no bruises or injuries
It was the first time he felt so terrified.
He had faced many life-and-death missions before and usually felt calm, but seeing his wife fight criminals alone made his heart almost leap out of his chest.
Ethan hugged her tightly, like a precious jade, not wanting to let go. He looked at her with concern and slowly kissed her lips, showing his love and worry.
"Wife, you’re so bold fighting alone." He reprimanded her.
With pleading tone he continued, "I almost had a heart attack! Please tell me next time, okay?"
Elena didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Her true nature was starting to show, and she wanted to let her husband slowly accept it.
"Husband, that’s just who I am," she said, her voice steady but soft.
"I’ll always do my best to stay safe, okay? But I can’t promise I won’t fight."
"I know. Just give me a heads-up next time," Ethan said with concern.
After a few minutes of heartfelt conversation, Elena urged Ethan that they should leave immediately. She had a hunch that the criminal already knew what they had done.
’Backup from the criminals will arrive soon, for sure.’
To reach the road to City A, they had to pass through the center of City B and then move quickly to blend with the crowd.
They will quietly navigate the path without drawing too much attention to anyone.
Though she wasn’t afraid of confrontation, engaging with this gang wasn’t worth it—it would only be time-consuming.
The gloomy sky above worried her most.
’The rain might come soon’.
"Let’s hurry up."
But before they could drive away, a cry echoed from the scene. It was a beautiful middle-aged woman—the one the criminals had targeted.
"Arthur, huhuh... my husband, huhuhuh... you should have just left me!" she yelled sadly.
She continued with a desperate and sorrowful voice, "Now, how am I supposed to live without you?..... So, I’ll follow you, husband, so that we can be together, okay?"
Elena noticed that the man who bravely fought against the criminal earlier had moved his finger slightly. She immediately shared her observation with Ethan.
Knowing the man was still alive, Ethan quickly approached the middle-aged woman.
He truly admired this man who had defended his wife with all his might, his courage igniting a sense of respect within him.
"Madam, let me take a look at your husband. I think I saw his finger moving a while ago."
Hearing the young man say her husband might be alive, she quickly nodded, her eyes filled with hope.
"Please, check on him and save him! Are you a doctor? I’m begging you—please, save my husband!" she pleaded desperately.
"No, I am not a doctor but I have some training. Let me have a look," Ethan replied calmly.
As he examined the man, Ethan noticed a lot of blood seeping from his shirt. He felt worried, but upon closer inspection, he realized it was just a shoulder injury.
There was also a bullet that had struck the man’s metal tag, leaving a dent but not penetrating it. The tag might have absorbed the impact, likely saving his life. Perhaps he was unconscious from the impact.
’This man is from the military.’
"Madam, I checked his pulse, and he’s still alive," Ethan reassured her.
"He’s just unconscious from the sudden impact. We need to apply first aid to his shoulder first."
The middle-aged woman was stunned for a moment, then her face broke into a smile as she looked at her pale husband.
With a mix of relief and joy, she exclaimed, "Arthur, you’re alive!"
She stood up and was ready to find her belongings, but Elena handed her a first aid kit before she could move.
"Take this madam."
The middle-aged woman was grateful to see a young, beautiful lady who handed her the first aid kit.
She smiled warmly and said, "Thank you, thank you so much. I will definitely remember the two of you for this life-saving grace."
She immediately applied the contents of the first aid kit, her hands were steady despite the urgency.
Elena had secretly mixed the well water with alcohol in a small bottle, creating a makeshift antiseptic.
Once the woman was done bandaging her injured husband, Elena said in a serious tone.
"Madam, you should leave as soon as possible. It’s not safe here."
The middle-aged woman nodded in agreement, then thanked them repeatedly.
"Thank you so much for this life-saving grace. I truly appreciate it."
"May I know the name of my benefactors?" she asked, her voice filled with sincerity.
"You can call me Elena," She replied warmly, then gesturing to the man beside her.
"And this is my husband, Ethan."
Ethan nodded.
"You can call me Jenna, and this is my husband, Arthur," the woman introduced herself.
After a brief exchange, Ms. Jenna left the bridge, heading back toward City C.
"Let’s meet if fate allows," she said, waving as she drove away.
"Wife, let’s go," Ethan urged, starting the motorcycle.
"Wait a moment," Elena replied, her eyes scanning the area.
"I want to gather the items this gang looted. It would be a waste not to take advantage of the situation."
Ethan smiled as he watched his wife, imagining her like a hamster storing food for safety. Her resourcefulness never ceased to amaze him.
"Okay, Wife," he said, his tone light and supportive. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Once Elena had collected what she could, they left the bridge and entered City B.

In the center of City B, a gang member nervously reported the incident at the toll booth to the Iron Gang boss.
"Boss, I’m telling you the truth. A poor, ugly woman attacked our gang."
The boss shot him a piercing glare, frustration written all over his face.
"What poor, ugly woman? Explain yourself properly."
"Boss, the ugly woman! She brutally killed our people."
"Stupid! When I said ’explain,’ I wanted all the details, not just the woman’s appearance. How many were there? What was their last location? Did they all have guns?" the boss demanded, his voice rising.
"But boss, she killed all of our members without a partner!" the gang member protested.
"Do you think I’m stupid? You expect me to believe that she took down ten of our men alone?" the boss snapped, his patience wearing thin.
"Boss, I’m telling you the truth!" the gang member pleaded.
"Then you’re an idiot! That woman is either an assassin in disguise, or you are too dumb to realize she has backup lurking around."
"Prepare yourselves. We are going to retaliate," he ordered, his voice cold and determined.
The gang members exchanged nervous glances, knowing that the boss’s wrath would be unleashed on anyone who crossed them.
