Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Hypnotize

Sophia leaned in closer, eyes sharp.

"You spent the whole day with him... AND you defended him just now!"

Her face darkened.

"Tell me, Hazel... you haven’t fallen for him, have you?!"

Hazel nearly choked on air.

"What?! No!" she exclaimed.

"I was just... showing him around campus!"

She wasn’t lying, exactly. But considering Luke had carried her around like a trophy all day, she wasn’t sure her argument was very convincing.

Sophia narrowed her eyes further.

"Hmm... alright," she said slowly. "But stay away from him. He doesn’t seem like a good person."

Hazel sighed.

"Fine, fine," she said.

But deep down...

She wasn’t so sure.

Later that night, Hazel lay in bed, staring at her phone.

Her fingers hovered over Nate Dawson’s contact.

After a moment, she typed a message.

"Brother Nate, I met an interesting person today..."

But after staring at the text for a while...

She deleted it.

Somehow, she felt like this wasn’t something she could easily explain.

Elsewhere, Luke was in the middle of a heated battle.

For the first time in a while, his opponent had managed to keep up with him for more than a few seconds.

In the central island of West Lake, the battle raged on.

"Whew!!"

"Whew!!"

"What are you howling for? Get out of the way!"

Tanya Reed threw a fire spell at the two Skywing Wolf cubs, who were howling toward the full moon.

However, their bloodline instincts had been overpowered by their maternal lineage, making them act oddly.

Tanya sighed, turning back to Luke.

"Why are you here, anyway? Weren’t you busy with that girl all day?"

Luke smirked.

"You tapped my back three times during the day," he said. "Did you not watch Journey to the West?"

Tanya blushed slightly, rolling her eyes.

"Smartass," she muttered.

Luke chuckled, pulling her closer.

But then—

His eyes narrowed.

From the shadows near the shoreline, a figure watched them silently.

A woman, dressed in black, wearing a mask, with long, flowing hair...

Luke’s smile vanished.

"Elias Vaughn...?"

She was watching them.

Tonight, Tanya Reed was assigned to duty on the island in the middle of West Lake.

As far as she knew, the only ones present on this secluded island were herself, Luke, three little Skywing Wolf cubs, and a certain colossal serpent slumbering beneath the lake’s surface.

And yet—

There was a third person standing right before them.

Tanya’s heart skipped a beat. Instinctively, she moved to cover herself.

She had been completely unaware of the newcomer’s presence, which was unusual for her.

Fortunately, upon closer inspection, it seemed that the intruder was a girl.

At the very least, she wasn’t in danger of exposing herself in front of a man.

Luke, however, was already staring at the figure, his expression curious yet amused.

"Elias Vaughn?" he said, recognizing her signature raven-black waterfall of hair and strikingly pure blue eyes.

However, her current attire—a full black ensemble—made her look more like a thief than an exchange student.

"Elias Vaughn?"

Tanya shot Luke a confused glance while hurriedly gathering her scattered clothing.

"You know her?" she asked, her voice carrying a slight edge.

"Yeah," Luke replied. "Met her back at Celestial Academy. She’s an exchange student from Arcadia Academy."

Tanya’s frown deepened.

"An exchange student? Then what is she doing sneaking around here?"

Her eyes narrowed in suspicion.

The island held many secrets, but they weren’t the type that could simply be stolen like artifacts.

Still, if Elias had come all this way, she had to be after something.

Luke, on the other hand, wasn’t particularly bothered.

He coughed lightly, stepping toward Elias with a lazy smile.

"Okay, Vaughn, mind explaining what you’re up to?"

His tone was casual, but there was an undercurrent of sharpness behind it.

For all her mysteriousness, Elias rarely acted without reason.

Seeing her lurking around at night was highly suspicious.

But instead of answering, Elias just snorted coldly.

"This time, I’ll forgive you."

"...What?"

Luke’s smug expression faltered.

He blinked, trying to process her words.

"Hold on, did I mishear you?"

Elias ignored him, turning on her heel and stepping past him, moving deftly through the trees like a phantom.

Tanya shot Luke another look.

Luke sighed.

"Yeah, I have no idea what she’s on about either."

They watched in silence as Elias cautiously moved forward, her posture alert.

She was clearly looking for something.

Luke took a step forward and called out to her again.

"Elias, what exactly are you doing?"

"Shhh!"

She hurriedly rushed over and covered his mouth before he could speak any further.

Her pure blue eyes flickered with urgency.

"There’s a big snake here," she whispered, her voice dead serious.

"It’s incredibly powerful. Don’t make any sudden noises, or you’ll wake it up."

The moment those words left her lips, Luke and Tanya exchanged a look of utter bewilderment.

A big snake?

Well, yes—there was a big snake here.

But how did Elias know that?

Only a handful of people were aware of the Totem Serpent’s existence.

For someone like Elias, who was supposedly just a student, to know about it was highly unusual.

"How do you know there’s a big snake here?" Luke asked.

"My grandfather told me," Elias said simply. "Now keep your voice down. If we wake it, my plan will be ruined."

Luke arched an eyebrow.

"Your grandfather, huh?"

Tanya’s expression sharpened.

"Wait," she said, stepping forward.

"Is your grandfather Victor Hale?"

At that, Elias visibly stiffened.

"Of course not," she snapped. "My grandfather’s last name is Watson, not Hale." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"Don’t lump him together with that man."

The way she said it was practically dripping with contempt.

Luke, however, wasn’t focused on the family drama.

Instead, he was curious about something else.

"What exactly were you planning to do, Vaughn?" he asked.

"Even if I wasn’t here, how were you expecting to deal with the snake?"

Elias hesitated.

Then, after a moment, she sighed.

"I was going to hypnotize it," she admitted.
