Chapter 357: +1 Relics of the Hobbit Exploration Ticket

Before Silvanus could even react, he had really escaped that icy region.

He opened his eyes wide and stared up at the ceiling—right at that moment, a small, fluffy head suddenly popped into his view. Vivian twitched her ears, tilting her head slightly as she looked at Silvanus. She let out a soft sound, then promptly rubbed her soft ears against Silvanus’s face.

Silvanus couldn’t help but laugh. He scooped Vivian into his arms, thinking that maybe he should spend some time in the library. Who knew—there might be something written about Nerio... after all, the boy really did seem to want to get out.

Life as a first-year student didn’t have much beyond eating and attending classes. They simply needed to study—study without pause, grow stronger—so that by their second year, they could head out as Hunters.

And in any case, some people still owed the Academy a massive debt.

Eventually, the event Nana mentioned finally arrived.

The selection of students to fill the remaining spots in the expedition to explore the Relics of the Hobbit.

It was simple: the two best-performing students would be chosen.

They didn’t even get the chance to fight for it. Silvanus and Nana were selected just like that—the only thing left was for them to agree.

Nana stared at Walther in disbelief, and for a moment, she even looked... regretful.

Sure enough, in the very next second, she raised her voice:

"Why students? Only the strongest students should be allowed to go!"

Before she could say anything else, Silvanus scoffed:

"If that’s the case, then you’ll have to stay home, Nana."

Nana glared at Silvanus furiously, stomping one foot on the ground.

"You—!"

But Walther didn’t let the argument continue.

"The decision has already been made," he said. "What are your intentions?"

"I agree."

"I agree."

Silvanus and Nana answered at the same time. At that moment, a youthful laugh burst out from behind them—Nicole’s voice:

"Oh my god, anyone who doesn’t know better would think this is a marriage announcement, haha!"

Silvanus shivered inwardly, while Nicole flushed red with anger.

Walther glanced toward Nicole as well.

"Nicole, they are all our students. Please don’t say things like that."

Nicole shrugged, clearly unbothered.

And so, Silvanus and Nana officially became the substitute members of the expedition team exploring the Relics of the Hobbit.

During break time, Ariana tilted her head at Silvanus, sounding a little dazed.

"I really wish I could go with you, Silvanus..."

Silvanus didn’t respond, but Matthew quietly said,

"It’s definitely going to be dangerous."

Ariana pouted, clearly unconvinced.

"Dangerous? What’s dangerous about it? Silvanus can totally protect me."

Matthew couldn’t help but frown inwardly at that. Why would Silvanus need to protect Ariana? It made no sense.

Silvanus didn’t respond, still busy feeding Vivian a chicken drumstick.

Strangely enough, Vivian was tiny, yet she ate a lot—and despite that, she never seemed to grow any bigger.

As for Silvanus, he was, of course, thinking about how to bring Vivian along. The outside world would definitely be dangerous. Even a small moment of carelessness on his part could put Vivian in harm’s way.

Finally, Silvanus lifted his gaze and looked at Matthew.

"Matthew, can you take care of Vivian for me for a while?"

Matthew’s eyes widened, his pupils trembling. His hands—hidden under the table—began to shake.

Silvanus wanted him to look after that silly little fox?

That was... that was wonderful.

Matthew smiled shyly.

"Of course—"

But before Matthew could even finish his sentence, Vivian suddenly hissed at him, claws swiping forward as if she wanted to shred him to pieces.

Matthew jerked back in shock, raising both hands in surrender.

Silvanus held Vivian back. He glanced at Matthew, and when Matthew met Silvanus’s green eyes, his heart skipped a beat.

Why—why was Silvanus looking at him like that? No, Silvanus definitely couldn’t have figured anything out...

It was just an ordinary glance. Just a totally normal glance.

Silvanus quietly patted Vivian’s head, saying nothing more about the matter of asking someone to watch her.

From the side, Ariana volunteered brightly:

"Let me take care of Vivian for you, Silvanus!"

But the moment she finished speaking, Vivian hissed at her too—equally fierce, although she didn’t look like she intended to leap and claw Ariana the way she had with Matthew.

Ariana: "..."

What on earth was wrong with this silly little fox...

Silvanus waved a hand.

"Alright, you two don’t need to worry about it. I already have someone in mind."

Matthew couldn’t help lowering his gaze at that, frowning inwardly and saying nothing.

Someone Silvanus could rely on?

Of course—that could only be our esteemed Headmaster.

The Headmaster looked at Silvanus, the outstanding student standing before him, gazing up while holding a small fox raised in both hands. Both Silvanus and the fox blinked at him at the same time.

Only Silvanus looked bright and cheerful. Vivian, on the other hand, had both ears drooping, her whole body limp, as if life held nothing worth clinging to anymore.

"Sir, could you please help me take care of Vivian for a while? I’ll definitely be back soon."

Silvanus had thought of the only person he could rely on.

And sure enough, in front of the Headmaster, Vivian immediately drooped her tail, not daring to show even a hint of claws.

At that moment, the Headmaster unexpectedly raised his hand. Seeing this, Silvanus lit up in delight.

But that hand stopped on his head instead, giving his hair a couple of pats.

Silvanus: "..."

After patting his head once more, the Headmaster finally took Vivian into his arms.

Vivian lay there, small and subdued, behaving so obediently that Silvanus felt instantly reassured.

The Headmaster nodded.

"Be careful. Treat it like an extracurricular lesson. You’re a first-year student—you don’t need to charge into danger like a professional Hunter."

Silvanus nodded vigorously.

"I understand, sir. Goodbye."

He bowed, then turned to leave. Behind him, Vivian stretched its neck toward him, letting out a quivering, tearful sound.

At that moment, the Headmaster’s large, calloused hand rubbed the little fox’s head. He smiled softly.

"Don’t cry. Your master will definitely return."

Vivian didn’t like anyone touching its head except Silvanus. Almost instantly, it opened its mouth and bit the Headmaster’s hand.

The Headmaster lowered his gaze to look at it.

Vivian’s fur bristled all at once.

It trembled, stuck out its tongue, and licked the bite mark on the Headmaster’s hand, wearing a sly, ingratiating smile.

The schedule for joining the expedition team was quite rushed. By the next morning, Silvanus was already prepared to depart.

Just for this journey, he had even learned spatial magic—after much effort, he finally managed to create a tiny one-square-meter space to store a few ordinary items.

Nana looked resigned. At this point, she could no longer yell or complain; doing so would only make her lose face.

She flicked her ponytail lightly and glanced at Silvanus.

"You had better know your place. Once we’re out there, we’ll have a match."

Silvanus had no response to that.

"We’re a team right now, you know. Can’t we at least maintain temporary peace, my lady?"

Nana let out a cold laugh.

"I have no desire for peace with a commoner."

She dusted nonexistent dirt off her shoulder.

"And remember—keep one meter away from me. The grime on you will get on me. I’m allergic."
