Being Op With My Broken System: All Limits Have Errors-Chapter 283: Commotion outside the vault
Under Alex’s bewildered gaze, the body of the Void Knight turned nearly invisible, and its presence disappeared completely.
It was as if the Void Knight wasn’t there anymore but Alex could clearly see it. On top of that, due to the strange state it had entered, the lightning chains lost their target and flew aimlessly within the lightning prison as they were no longer able to lock onto the Void Knight.
’What ability is this?’ Alex thought to himself, he could already tell that most of his attacks would be ineffective against the Void Knight as long as it remained in that state but could the other party attack him?
That would be troublesome.
Alex instantly prepared himself for anything the knight would do next after escaping from the lightning chain; he was ready to use Blink and VoidWalk at any moment.
The Void Knight flew out of the coverage of the lightning prison while still in its near-transparent form and hovered in the air while staring down at Alex.
It held its sword in a stance that indicated it was about to attack, and Alex was ready to react accordingly.
’Can it really attack in that form?’ Alex thought, feeling that this ability of the Void Knight was too broken.
But just when the Void Knight was about to attack, its body froze, and it gazed in the direction of the crack from which it had appeared. Its gaze only lasted for a split second before it turned to look at Alex while retracting its sword.
"It seems you’ll be able to live a little longer," the Void Knight stated and without waiting for Alex to respond, it flew towards the crack that was gradually closing.
Alex remained standing on the ground, he had originally planned to enter the crack after defeating the Void Knight. After he learned that Void eyes could be found in cracks, he wanted to give it a try but the outcome of their battle caused him to hesitate.
There were too many uncertainties, and he didn’t want to take the risk of going into something that he wouldn’t come out of.
Why does the Void Knight always retreat so suddenly mid-battle?
Did it have any more strange abilities like the one it used to escape his lightning prison?
Would following it lead him to more Void Knights?
There were so many mysteries around the Void Knight that Alex didn’t dare to go after it and just watched as the Void Knight entered the crack and the crack closed up.
The place returned to normal and only the devastation caused by their clash remained.
For a long time, Alex just stood there and stared at the spot in the sky where the crack had appeared.
He had anticipated meeting the Void Knight after their first encounter and believed that he had prepared enough after crafting a few Saint rank spells, but their second meeting had only left him with even more questions and enabled him to get a glimpse of what a Void Knight was capable of.
"At least I wasn’t as helpless as the last time," Alex sighed after standing for a long time. He was already thinking of how he should prepare for the next time he encountered a Void knight.
Would it even be the same Void Knight or a different one?
...
Days passed and Alex returned to his normal life like nothing had happened. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
He engrossed himself in learning at the Magic University and farming exp points in his spare time.
He still regularly contacted his family and would always check up on Emily.
Nothing noticeable had happened in Balon City and they were still waiting for Mr Chen to return and fix Emily’s soul sea.
Alex had placed going to see Femi and the Saint in the third continent, who was rumoured to have a Void eye on hold for now, he would do that after their next assessment, which was fast approaching.
On top of that, it would be their final assessment as first-year students. In the blink of an eye, Alex had spent a year in Brandvel Magic University and was soon to become a second-year student.
It wasn’t wrong to say that he was an exceptional student and almost everyone in the Magic University now knew him. After all, he had dominated the ranking ever since the start of their first year.
The students had been informed that their promotion assessment to become second-year students was going to be different from the usual, but no details had been revealed yet.
Most of the students had learned from their upperclassmen that the promotion assessment was always different from the previous ones to prevent students from preparing cheats in advance.
Currently.
"Alex, what are you doing today? Want to spar with me?"
"I’ll pass, I have something important to do."
"What is it, can I help?"
"I don’t think so, unless you’re an explorer."
"What a coincidence, I was thinking of taking the explorer test later today!"
Alex "..."
He was currently chatting with the always energetic Eric as they walked through the hallway after finishing a class; it was their last class for the day, and they both had the rest of the day for themselves.
Alex stared at Eric, who was bringing up solutions to all of his excuses with a perplexed expression. He wanted to go farm exp points as usual, but Eric just wasn’t giving him any chance.
The boy was strangely persistent today, maybe because Alex had been ghosting him for the past few days. He somehow felt bad for this, after all, Eric was his only friend in the Brandvel.
Ellie wasn’t considered as a friend since Alex had other plans for her...serious plans.
In the end, Alex gave in.
"Fine, we’ll go take your explorer test together and take a mission together, but I have something to do first, so wait for me at the gate," Alex said, he would just sacrifice today to spend some time with his friend.
"Understood!" Eric responded with excitement and quickly disappeared in the direction of the gate. Alex stared at his retreating back, speechless. He shook his head after Eric vanished from view and resumed walking.
Alex had barely walked too far when he bumped into someone at a curve section.
His eyes narrowed as he stared at the other party, but still apologised.
"I’m sorry," Alex said with a slight bow. He wasn’t really sorry but just said it because the other party seemed to be an instructor even though Alex had never seen him before.
Oh, Alex recalled seeing him in his classes a few times as Mr Chen. As for why Alex narrowed his eyes, it was because he realised that the other party had purposely bumped into him.
After all, they were both mages and had obviously sensed each other at the curve section but this person had moved in a way that would guarantee that they bumped into each other.
’What is this now?’ Alex thought.
"Oh, it’s fine. I should be the one apologising instead, I should be able to sense you since I’m stronger but my mind was occupied." The instructor said with a faint smile.
’Yeah, occupied with bumping into me,’ Alex thought but didn’t say anything out loud.
"Alex, right? I’ve heard so much about you, where are you headed?" The instructor stated after Alex remained silent.
Alex wasn’t surprised that the other party knew his name since he was somewhat popular.
"I’m going to the university vault," Alex replied.
"I see, alright then. I won’t waste your time, see you another time." The other party smiled and quickly walked off.
Alex watched as the man took the turn and kept walking as if nothing happened.
’Strange,’ Alex thought and resumed walking as well.
After some time, he arrived at the university’s vault. He was yet to redeem the rewards for the two vault tokens with him and had come to get them.
The two old men who stayed at the gates were already familiar with him and without much words, opened the gates and collected the tokens from him while Alex went in.
Alex went through the long corridor and went directly to the chamber where grade 5 magic items were kept. The sky boots had been very helpful in his battle against the three-eyed spider lord. Alex wanted more grade five magic items in his arsenal.
While browsing for a suitable magic item, a commotion broke out outside.
BOOM!
The sound of a loud impact sounded from outside and caused the entire vault to shake.
"What’s happening out there?" Alex mumbled and spread his senses to check.
A weird look appeared on his face soon after.
’Magic beasts, how did they enter the university grounds?’ Alex felt suspicious but continued browsing through the magic items in the end.
Some people had already moved to deal with the situation so his help wasn’t needed.
Alex picked the items that he liked not long after and came out. He found the gates of the vault empty, the two old men were nowhere to be seen.
"They probably went to see what was going on too," Alex said, he didn’t bother waiting for them and left.
