Being Op With My Broken System: All Limits Have Errors-Chapter 292: Surrounded
"That was actually not as hard as I imagined, both of us together could easily take out any mutated rank beasts!" Eric exclaimed as they made their way out of the ironwood forest.
After Eric chopped off the snake’s head, they had stored the corpse for proof of completing the mission, as well as the corpses of the other magic beasts they had killed. On their way out, Eric couldn’t stop talking about how the experience of killing a mutated rank beast was.
"How about we accept more missions together and build our reputation as explorers, and create a group of Core rank explorers, then we’ll be hunting only mutated rank beasts! With both of us as the leaders, we’ll become very popular!"
Alex stared at the boy with a blank face. He wondered if Eric didn’t realise the amount of fame he already had by just being related to the shadow monarch, or if he was just joking.
"You do know that you won’t remain a Core rank mage for long, right?" Alex asked softly, reminding the boy that he was already on the last block of the Core mage rank.
Eric’s eyes widened as a look of realisation hit him. That’s right, he was almost at the Expert mage rank!
"Then, let’s because Expert rank mages first before creating the explorer group, we’ll be hunting transformed ranked beasts by then," Eric stated, his expression showing that he had come up with a brilliant solution.
Alex chuckled and didn’t say anything, his gaze silently looked ahead as he stared at several corners.
They were currently being surrounded, and he could pick up a few familiar presences, the dark beasts of the Dark Union!
Apparently, these people had been waiting long before Alex and Eric killed the steel-horned snake. Alex didn’t bother warning Eric, as that might end up alerting them; he had a few questions that he wanted to ask members of the Dark Union, and this was a perfect opportunity.
The duo continued to walk and immediately after they came out of the ironwood forest, several figures dropped from the air and surrounded them.
Swoosh! Thud!!
The sounds of their robes fluttering in the air and their feet landing on the ground startled Eric.
The boy looked around with a shocked expression, realising that they were surrounded by over five mages in yellow robes and over ten monkey-like creatures with abnormally long arms and huge claws.
As for the mages, Eric noticed that he couldn’t see through their strength; this meant that all five of them were above the Core mage rank!
They were outnumbered and outranked!
"The Dark Union," Eric mumbled as he moved his back closer to Alex, his tone suddenly revealing hostility and his eyes flashing with battle intent.
His shoulders trembled with nervousness as he stared at the mages and dark beasts.
Alex, who was standing beside Eric calmly, stared at the boy in surprise.
"You know them?" He asked.
"Of course, everyone in Brandvel knows the signature robe of the Dark Union. Moreover, my family has a past with them." Eric replied in a whisper, his eyes turning pitch black.
Alex looked at Eric and didn’t say anything else. He could sense the fear from him, which was a normal reaction considering the situation that they were in.
"Alex Zoran, we finally meet." One of the five mages in a yellow robe voiced out. The hoods of their robes covered their heads so Alex and Eric were unable to see their faces.
"Do I know you?" Alex asked, not surprised that the other party knew his name.
He silently observed the strength of the five mages, all five of them were at the Expert mage rank. Alex could easily wipe them out and leave one for questioning but refrained from doing so.
From what he had learned about the Dark Union, those in yellow robes were of relatively lower status. Alex guessed that there must be a stronger and higher individual behind this operation, and that was who he wanted to meet.
"No, you don’t. But I know a lot about you and have been waiting for the opportunity to meet you, looks like today’s my lucky day." The other party said with a mean chuckle.
"What do you want?" Alex asked expressionlessly.
"Ah, we don’t have to be in a rush now. How about you come with us first, you’ll find out later." The figure said before the opening of his hood turned toward Eric.
"As for your friend here. Hmm, a kid of the Osworth family.
We’ll leave once we’ve taken care of him." he added in a malicious tone.
Eric’s eyes trembled upon hearing this and stars of the shadow element immediately appeared around him.
"Alex, work with me and break through them. I have a few magic items that can help us escape." Eric whispered to Alex, he was prepared to give his all and fight instead of dying quietly.
"Wait," Alex said to Eric, placing a hand on the boy’s shoulder.
This gesture took Eric by surprise, but it managed to calm him down. He took a deep breath and couldn’t help but feel admiration toward Alex.
He was still calm even in the situation they were in.
The five mages in yellow robes silently watched the interaction between the two without interfering.
After stopping Eric from making any rash movements, Alex turned to face the figure who seemed to be leading this "invitation".
"He’s the grandson of the shadow monarch, do you really think you can afford harming him?" Alex stated.
"The shadow monarch was injured by our Saints, he wouldn’t dare to come out for the time being. Besides, how will he know if he can’t find his grandson’s body?" The figure replied.
Alex wasn’t surprised by this response but Eric’s expression turned ugly, his fingers twisted slightly while standing behind Alex.
"Hmm, I see. Okay, I’ll come with you but on one condition." Alex voiced out, causing Eric and the others to look at him with curiosity.
"Hehehe, I didn’t tell you you had a choice in this matter but go ahead and state your condition." The figure replied.
"Eric will come with me and remain by my side at all times. If you don’t agree, then I’ll rather fight you to the death" Alex announced strongly.
He originally thought of asking them to let Eric leave without following him, but he realised that the Dark Union wasn’t an organisation that would keep its promises; it was best to keep Eric by his side instead.
"Hehehe, so you’ll rather fight us to the death huh? I like that attitude. Fine, he can come with us." The figure said with a big laugh.
"Alex, are you sure about this? Should we call someone?" Eric whispered to Alex from behind.
"It’s all right, don’t do anything that might anger them and stay close to me," Alex whispered back.
Eric nodded and followed behind Alex.
With the five figures in robes leading the way and the ten dark beasts walking behind them, Alex and Eric were taken away; the direction they were heading wasn’t the City, but deeper into the wild.
