Chapter 293: The missing instructor

After walking for an unknown amount of time, Alex and Eric were brought to a cave entrance in the wild. The surroundings were filled with rocks of different shapes and sizes and lizard beasts roamed the place.

Some of the beasts even approached the group upon sighting them but were quickly taken care of by the dark beasts.

Eric looked around nervously as they entered the cave and arrived at a thin corridor with rough walls on both sides. The boy stuck closely to Alex, as that was the only reason he was still able to keep calm.

Alex calmly walked behind the five mages while three of the dark beasts tailed behind them, the other dark beasts waited at the entrance of the cave on the orders of the mages.

Alex scanned the place with his senses. The cave they were in wasn’t very big and only had a single large opening at the end of this corridor, Alex could pick up the presence of a few people up ahead.

One of them was a Master mage rank, another was at the Archmage rank, while the rest were at the Expert mage rank.

As for the last person, Alex was surprised that it was an ordinary human. What was an ordinary person doing here?

After walking for some time, they arrived at the large opening at the end of the corridor. It was a natural hall with a few tall rock pillars supporting the ceiling.

At the centre of this underground hall was a dark pool that was bubbling like boiling magma. Alex recognised it at a glance because he had seen something similar at the base of the Dark Union at Balon City when he rescued those missing children.

Next to the pool was a figure in a black robe, who was the Archmage whom Alex had sensed earlier. Next to him were a couple of other figures in yellow robes, one of them being the Master rank mage.

The last person in the underground hall was a young woman who looked injured, and her hands were tied behind her back. She sat on the floor in a corner and looked at the robed figures with terrified eyes.

Alex’s eyes twitched slightly. From the state of the woman, he could tell what she had gone through.

’These bastards,’ Alex thought to himself but still kept his cool.

Eric, on the other hand, appeared even more nervous after entering the underground space, his eyes darting around uncomfortably.

"Your grace, we’ve brought him." The yellow-robed figure who had been communicating with Alex was previously announced before going to stand with the other yellow-robed figures who were already in the hall.

His four companions went with him also, leaving just Alex and Eric all at the entrance to the corridor.

"Student Alex, we meet again." A familiar voice sounded from under the hood of the black robe as the figure raised his left hand and flipped his hood back, revealing his face.

Alex’s eyes flashed slightly as his emotions fluctuated for a moment after seeing the other party’s face.

"It’s you," he said.

"Yes, it’s me but you don’t really look like you’re surprised." The other party said with a smile. It turned out that this person was the instructor who had bumped into Alex on his way to the vault the day that the void key was stolen. He had tried searching for the other party, but he had already fled Brandvel City.

Alex had already guessed that this person was responsible for the missing item and belonged to the Dark Union but didn’t expect to meet him here.

"Are you responsible for the missing item at the university?" Alex asked right away, eager to confirm his guess.

"Ah, the void key. Yes, the Dark Union is responsible, and I helped with it. Sorry for framing you like that and making it look like you were responsible, I needed to direct the focus of the university elsewhere until I safely moved it out of Brandvel." The man explained with a smile, but his smile annoyed Alex for some reason. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Eric stared back and forth between Alex and the instructor; he didn’t know what they were talking about, but didn’t ask.

Did Alex know this person?

"So what do you want with me? You sent quite a big force just to catch a Core rank mage like me." Alex asked, pushing the matter of the missing void key to the back of his mind.

Since he was now sure of the culprit, the next step was to think of how to retrieve it. But before that, he needed to solve this problem first.

"Alex Zoran. Age: 19. Born to the Zoran family on the outskirts of Balon City and has a little sister and currently a second adopted junior sister. Emily Zoran, and Alicia Zoran.

Space mage, had terrible talent but suddenly became a genius after managing to enter the Adept mage rank, a remarkable explorer despite his age and a bright student at the Brandvel Magic University.

Hmm, an impressive profile you have here." The instructor quoted while maintaining eye contact with Alex.

Listening to this, Alex’s expression slowly grew darker while Eric looked shocked; the Dark Union knew so much about Alex’s family!

"Now, now, don’t give me that death glare. I’m just trying to show you that even with all of this information, I didn’t want to make our first meeting awkward by using them to force you to come.

That’s why I sent so many people, to make sure you will be brought safely." The instructor explained with a chuckle after seeing how Alex was looking at him.

He wouldn’t admit it but he actually got scared for a second.

"What do you want from me?" Alex asked again in a serious tone.

The face of the instructor turned serious as well after hearing this question, and he walked toward Alex. He spoke as he walked.

"I know that stealing the Void key has placed you in a tight spot, they’re still probably monitoring you even though they didn’t lock you up directly.

But I can help you, we can help you. Not just with that but with a lot of other things. What is it, just say it. Money, girls, magic items, servants, influence?

Whatever you desire, the Dark Union is willing to nurture you as long as you swear your loyalty to us." The instructor arrived behind Alex and placed one hand on his shoulder.

"What do you say, isn’t it an impressive offer? Join me, with my status and your talent, we can easily reach a high standing in the Dark Union, and our names will echo through the continents," the instructor whispered to Alex while Eric stared from the side, his face frozen with fear.

"If I join you, will you let my friend go?" Alex asked softly after a bit.

"No, don’t agree to this! If you join the Dark Union, you’ll become the public enemy of the world!" Eric said hurriedly after hearing Alex’s words, his eyes were blurry and he was on the verge of tears.

Alex was thinking of joining such a horrible organisation just to save him, he was touched.
