Chapter 296: Dark Union in the university

It was a new week and students had resumed attending classes as usual. It had been a few days since the incident with the Dark Union but Alex hadn’t encountered the instructor since then, nor had any other member of the Dark Union come to look for him.

He didn’t inform the university of his discovery, as he would have asked to explain how he came to know of such information. Alex planned to retrieve the Void key by himself and, at the same time, look for the soul jewel, which the Dark Union had taken from the shadow monarch.

On this day, Alex had just finished his classes on General beast knowledge and was walking in the hallway with many other students when someone passed beside him.

"The descent of a God,"

The figure whispered softly as he walked past Alex, his pace immediately slowed down so that he would be able to catch Alex’s response.

Alex’s eyes narrowed upon hearing the code, it was the code of the Dark Union!

"White Star," he mumbled in response as he looked at the other party.

This person was also in the uniform of the Brandvel Magic University but the pattern was a bit different, indicating that he was an upperclassman.

"Follow me," the senior student said and started walking away. Alex didn’t waste time and quickly followed behind.

Their brief exchange didn’t draw any attention and appeared to be just two students saying hello to each other.

As they walked, Alex observed the other party. This student was at the Master mage rank, but his aura was very unstable. Alex guessed that he must have only advanced to the Master rank recently.

They walked until they left the lecture building and headed deeper into the university grounds. This area was usually off-limits to first-year students, such as Alex, but since a senior student was walking with him, no one stopped to question him.

After walking for a few minutes, they arrived in front of a training building and went in. The senior student led Alex to one of the resting rooms where a lone figure was waiting.

"My lord, I’ve brought him." The student announced as he entered the room, Alex was right behind him.

Alex entered, and his eyes immediately landed on the figure inside the waiting room. It was the instructor he hadn’t seen in the past few days.

"The descent of a God," the instructor looked at Alex and said with a smile.

"White Star," Alex replied calmly.

Clap!

The instructor clapped his palms together without standing up.

"Good, looks like the initiation was successful. You’re now White Star, a faithful Disciple of the Dark Union." The instructor smiled and then looked at the student who had brought Alex.

"You may leave," he said to the student.

"Yes, my lord." The student bowed and exited the room, leaving Alex alone with the instructor.

Both of them stared at each other in silence for a few seconds before the instructor suddenly let out a chuckle.

"I see he didn’t explain all of the basics to you. For starters, unless you’re in public, you must never stare directly at your superior like that. It could cost you your life, or that of a loved one." He said with a playful smirk but his eyes were dead serious.

Alex immediately shifted his gaze, not from fear, but to keep up his acting.

He already knew about the ranks of the Dark Union from the yellow robe who initiated him.

As a Disciple, he was at the lowest rank in the Dark Union. Above him were the yellow robes, and above that were the black robes. The instructor in front of him was currently in a black robe and was in charge of all the Dark Union operations in a City.

"Good, you’re learning fast. Come here," the instructor nodded after seeing how Alex reacted before ordering him to come close.

Alex obeyed and walked over, stopping just a few steps in front of the other party.

Without warning, the instructor grabbed Alex’s uniform and exposed a side of his chest, almost ripping Alex’s uniform.

Alex didn’t react and kept still. He watched as the man released mana into that area, and a mark appeared on Alex’s left chest.

"Hmm," the instructor nodded and pushed Alex back. He had confirmed that everything had gone well, and Alex had fully joined the Dark Union now.

"I guess you must have been wondering why you haven’t seen me since classes resumed this week." The instructor said, acting like he didn’t just almost strip Alex.

Alex kept staring at the ground and didn’t say anything.

The instructor went on, he said that he had resigned and was no longer an instructor here. He would be shifting to a new base to operate and had only come here to check on Alex and ask a few questions.

"First question, why is Eric still alive?" The instructor asked, his smile fading at this point and a deadly glint flashing past his eyes.

’So bothersome, should I just kill him?’ Alex thought, he wondered if it would be suspicious if everyone who knew about him joining the Dark Union suddenly died after he became a member.

"I begged for him to stay alive. He was unconscious throughout the process and does not know that I joined the Dark Union yet." Alex said and proceeded to tell what had happened after he brought Eric out and what he had told the kid.

Of course, he removed the part concerning the woman and the part of him killing everyone.

"Hmm, that isn’t enough. He’s related to the shadow monarch, it’ll be troublesome if the mages of the Osworth family start looking for me." The instructor said thoughtfully.

He had seen when Alex knocked out Eric but the boy had already seen his face before that.

"That won’t happen, he believes that you all were captured by the Union and won’t speak of the matter to anyone, I trust him," Alex stated.

The instructor frowned slightly, he opened his mouth after a few seconds.

"Fine but know that if he ever opens his mouth in the future, you’ll be responsible for killing him. And if you can’t do that, your family will bear the consequence of your kindness."

Alex’s eyes flashed when he heard this, but he forced himself to stay calm.

"I understand," was all he said.

The man looked at Alex for a bit before continuing.

"My next question, what happened to the woman?"

"I pushed her into the transformation pool and made her my first dark beast but on my way back, we encountered a mutated rank beast. Since Eric was unconscious, I had her hold the creature behind while I escaped.

I don’t think she survived." Alex said without a pause.

The instructor "...."

’So she died just minutes after becoming a dark beast, what a shame.’

"It’s not surprising. She wasn’t a mage, so she won’t be as powerful as a dark beast; dying to a mutated rank beast isn’t surprising." The instructor said,

"Last question, where did Green Flame tell you he was going?"

’Green flame, was that the name of the yellow robe who initiated me?’ Alex thought to himself before replying to the instructor.

"I don’t know, he sent me out after completing the initiation. Didn’t he report back to you?"

The room fell silent for a bit before the instructor told Alex that he could now leave, he added that they would come look for him if the Dark Union needed him to do anything.

"Work hard, only by making contributions will you be able to get to a higher rank." Was the last thing that the instructor said before Alex left the room. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Now left alone, the expression on the instructor’s face changed into a hideous one.

"Could he really be related to their disappearance? He’s only a Core rank mage after all." The instructor mumbled to himself, he felt conflicted.

He had waited for the report from his subordinate regarding Alex after he returned to the Magic University, but he didn’t get any news even after an entire day passed, which was very strange, so he had gone to check their hideout.

Getting there, the place was empty and not even a single dark beast could be seen. Moreover, there wasn’t any sign of fighting so he couldn’t make any guesses.

He had tried contacting them, but he couldn’t reach any of them; it was as if they had all suddenly disappeared. That was why he had called Alex to question him.

"To think I was suspecting a Core rank mage for the disappearance of several Expert rank mages and a Master rank mage." The instructor rubbed his face. This matter was disturbing, and he didn’t know how to solve it.

Meanwhile, a small grin formed on Alex’s face as he made his way out of the training hall.

’I expected him to interrogate me some more about the disappearance of those people, he must be trying to keep it a secret from the new member.

After all, how could a Core rank mage know about the disappearance of so many stronger mages.’ Alex thought as his grin widened.
