Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 239 - 227: The Consequence of Offending the Boss’s Wife (Part 1)
Yi Luowa raised her hand and waved it in front of his eyes, "Brother Shi, I worked so hard to cheer you up, and now you’re unhappy again?"
Tong Airui shook his head, "It has nothing to do with you. I was thinking about something else."
"Then go ahead and think." Yi Luowa pouted and took out her phone, "Connie, I’m done with class. Did you get your leave approved?"
Connie rubbed her sore neck and lowered her voice, "Not yet. There’s still one account left. I’ll finish it and then go apply for leave."
"One account? How long will that take?" Yi Luowa pouted, "How much does that intern boss Tong Old Five even pay you? Slaving you for free? If he doesn’t pay up, just quit!"
"Connie, no personal calls during work hours!"
Connie looked up at her supervisor who had spoken to her and hurriedly ended the call, "Sister Sun, I just need to finish this one account, and then can I take the afternoon off?"
Supervisor Sun threw several account books onto her desk with dissatisfaction, "You’ve been here just a few days and already asking for leave? The head office recently moved back to Xiawu, and there’s plenty of work to be done. The official employees aren’t allowed to take leave, let alone you interns. Get these done too; Boss needs them by tomorrow."
Connie furrowed her brows slightly. Five or six account books—it would be the end of the workday by the time she finished.
Supervisor Sun propped both arms on the desk and stared at her, "Is there a problem?"
"..." Connie stood up, "Sister Sun, your assigned task for me this morning was to verify ten accounts within a day. I’m about to finish, and my request for leave didn’t disrupt normal work. You can refuse me leave, but you can’t make extra work to unjustly pressure me."
The other office staff threw their gazes her way.
Supervisor Sun glared at them and barked, "What are you looking at? Is there something written on my face? Get back to work!"
The staff buried their heads, frustrated but silent, returning to their tasks.
Supervisor Sun refocused on Connie’s face, "If you don’t finish auditing these accounts today, don’t bother coming to work tomorrow!"
Connie gave her a cold glance, "Do you even have the authority to fire me?"
Supervisor Sun’s face flushed with embarrassment, and she pointed at Connie’s nose, shouting, "You’re just an intern under me! Are you saying I can’t fire a mere intern?"
"Pack up your things and get out!" With an angry shout, Tong Aino stormed in with a sullen face.
Supervisor Sun instantly swapped her scowl for a smile and rushed over to greet him. Everyone in the office stood up.
Connie cast a resentful glance at Tong Aino and picked up her backpack.
"Boss, I have no idea who brought this intern into the company. She doesn’t even have a file record. I’ll fire her immediately," Supervisor Sun explained to Tong Aino with a beaming face.
Tong Aino didn’t even look at her. He walked straight to Connie’s desk, "Taking your bag—where are you headed?"
"To shop! To unwind!" Connie snapped, giving him a dark look, "Anything is better than being here with you!"
Tong Aino smirked, "Going out with your sister-in-law and Ai Ni? Want me to drop you off?"
Connie took a deep breath and shoved two stacks of account books in front of him, "If you’ve got so much free time, audit these accounts yourself. I’m done serving you!"
"Don’t be like that. If you leave, where will I find someone as competent as you?" Tong Aino laughed and patted her arm. "I’ll give you half a day off. Go unwind."
Supervisor Sun’s smile froze as she observed them, and the other office workers silently watched for what would happen next.
Connie brushed his hand away, annoyed.
"Throwing a tantrum at me again!" Tong Aino turned toward Supervisor Sun, now frozen in her spot, his face darkening, "Didn’t I tell you to get out? Why are you still standing there?"
"Boss, I’m so sorry! I truly didn’t know Connie was..." Supervisor Sun was practically in tears, realizing she had messed up big time by offending someone important.
"Didn’t know she was what?" Tong Aino narrowed his eyes slightly, "The person you need to apologize to isn’t me. You offended your future boss’s spouse. Are you lingering here waiting for her to invite you for coffee?"
Supervisor Sun nearly collapsed in fear. She couldn’t believe the usually quiet, diligent young woman was their future boss’s wife.
Connie glanced at Tong Aino, equally stunned that he’d openly called her his future wife in front of everyone.
Tong Aino called out to the hallway, "Supervisor Li, come in and take over from Supervisor Sun."
Supervisor Li responded and stepped in. It was undeniable now—Supervisor Sun was being replaced. Connie tugged at Tong Aino’s sleeve.
Tong Aino turned to her, "This doesn’t concern you anymore. Go ahead. If you’re late, your sister-in-law will call to yell at me."
Connie sulked a bit. So this was all thanks to Luowa, she thought. That explained why he suddenly decided to check on her after all this time—he wasn’t in the habit of doing so.
Seeing her stubbornly leave, Tong Aino quickly followed and slipped a card into her bag, "There’s a car waiting downstairs. Go out with them, and spend money freely. You’re the boss’s wife of Zhuoyuan Group after all. The card’s PIN is 654321."
Connie pouted, "I already have money."
"Your money is yours. I want you to use ours." Tong Aino replied before returning to the office. He had long wanted to fire Supervisor Sun and finally found an excuse today.
Connie stepped into the elevator and, once alone, laughed quietly to herself. Though it was Luowa who convinced him to come today, his actions had genuinely touched her.
As soon as Connie left the elevator, she got a call from Yi Luowa, "Did Tong Aino let you go?"
"Yeah. I’m out. Where are you? Luowa, thanks a lot." Connie said.
Yi Luowa smirked, "Thanks for what? Let me tell you, dealing with Tong Aino is straightforward. The more you scold him, the smoother he becomes."
Tong Airui laughed as he gave her a light head rub, "Tell Connie to head to the Auderidge Tower. I’ll join you guys for dinner before I leave."
"Oh. Connie, come to Auderidge Tower. We’ll eat first before heading out." Yi Luowa said.
"Okay." Connie replied and quickly left.
Yi Luowa gave a sideways glance at the grinning Tong Airui, "What are you smiling about? Did you call Ai Ni?"
"I’m smiling because you bullied Old Five and he didn’t even react." Tong Airui chuckled as he pulled out his phone and dialed Teng Ai Ni’s number, "Ai Ni, join us for dinner at Auderidge Tower."
Still lying in bed, Teng Ai Ni lazily replied, "Who else is going? If it’s just you, I’ll pass."
"You think I want to invite you to dinner? Your constant world-is-against-me face drives me nuts. Your two sisters-in-law are here; coming or not?" Tong Airui laughed as he held Yi Luowa’s hand and whispered, "She’s probably still in bed."
"Fine, I’ll get ready." Teng Ai Ni remembered a promise from last night and hastily got out of bed.
Yi Luowa wrinkled her nose, "Ai Ni is kinda pitiful."
Tong Airui put away his phone and sighed guiltily, "I used to be against her marrying far away. Now I realize my thoughts back then were so selfish."
"I’ll spend more time with her, try to cheer her up. Brother Shi, is You Jia really that busy? Can’t he fly over occasionally to see Ai Ni?"
Tong Airui shook his head, "Although he’s a prince, his workload is equivalent to what a king would manage. It’s not easy for him to step away."
Yi Luowa pouted as she thought about it. These people all appeared so glamorous, but in truth, they didn’t have any free time. Life ahead was going to be another kind of headache.
Connie’s car arrived at Auderidge Tower almost simultaneously with theirs, and Tong Airui led the two beauties into the lobby.
The lobby manager saw him approaching and greeted him eagerly, "Duke Airui, hello! How many guests are dining today?"
"No guests today. It’s just family, four people. We’ll be dining at the revolving restaurant." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
The lobby manager nodded with a smile, "Please proceed upstairs."
Tong Airui took hold of Yi Luowa’s hand and led her and Connie to the glass elevator, "The revolving restaurant gives you a panoramic view of all Xiawu. Take a look when you’re up there."
"Wow, it’s so tall! This must be several hundred meters high, right?" Yi Luowa commented as she looked out the glass at the scenery, suddenly feeling a bit dizzy.
"Nearly seven hundred meters, the tallest building in Dongzhou. Dad put a lot of effort into building this hotel back in the day."
Connie turned toward Tong Airui, "I heard Zhuoyuan’s headquarters will move here soon."
"Yes, it’s under renovation. Currently, the headquarters is housed in the old branch building. Offices are tight. Once it’s completed, Wanzhou Entertainment will move here as well."
Yi Luowa grabbed Connie’s hand and laughed, "Once your work tires you out, you can visit Third Brother to see some beautiful women and handsome men."
"Ahem..." Tong Airui cleared his throat.
Yi Luowa glanced at him, "What are you coughing for? I didn’t say I was going to look."
"Even thinking about it isn’t allowed!" Tong Airui playfully pinched her nose.
Connie giggled at their banter. Honestly, she envied the way Yi Luowa and Fourth Brother interacted—it’s how real couples should be. Thinking about herself and Tong Aino, Connie sighed inwardly. That guy was frustratingly unpredictable.
After exiting the glass elevator, Yi Luowa pulled Connie to an window-side seat. Both women curiously looked out and marveled at the view. All of Xiawu lay beneath them—they could see buildings once appearing tall now dwarfed from this height.
"Don’t try to persuade me anymore. I won’t accept any work from Wanzhou Entertainment."
Just as Yi Luowa and Connie were enjoying the moment, an abrupt comment drew their attention to a nearby table.
A man and woman sat at the table—more precisely, an effeminate man and a strikingly cold woman.
"Qingqing, I’m acting in your best interest. Offend Wanzhou Entertainment, and who else will dare employ you?" The effeminate man twirled his fingers, exasperatedly rubbing his forehead.
"I’ve survived years without acting. If I get blacklisted, I’ll just go back to my old line of work." The cold woman took a sip of red wine calmly.
The effeminate man shrieked, "You’re crazy! Do you remember what kind of life you had before? Did you forget?!"
"That was a simpler time, and I was at ease." The cold woman said, placing her glass down delicately. "I’m leaving."
