(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 458: Dropping like flies
The group stood at the door and Andrew realised that the old butler, the man holding the doors open, had to be a beta. Even as he was a beta, Andrew could tell that he was beginning to become affected by whatever the hell was going on in the mansion.
Despite everything, Andrew was a little upset that no one outside of a butler was coming to greet him. Had they already left the premises? Or was there a safe place to be in this whole mess?
Andrew didn’t know, and he was sure he was going to find out.
Andrew turned to the group, all of them wearing the weird as hell face thingies, and met Kim’s glowing, amber gaze.
She looked feverish, but Andrew couldn’t tell if that was because of her anger, or the pheromones she’d already smelt. He then slid his gaze to the police officers.
"You should probably take the lead on this." Andrew said softly and the head officer nodded. Andrew could tell from his scent that he was an alpha. It wasn’t that he had a scent, but there was something about him that just told Andrew that he was. The same way he knew instinctively that Thomas was an alpha, and so was Ben.
There was also the fact that he had a ring on his finger. Andrew shifted out of the way as the officers he had coming in with him took the lead. This was going to be something horrible, Andrew could feel it in his bones.
He watched as a few of them made sure that their body cameras were on, before the head officer nodded, glanced around at everyone, and stepped into the mansion.
When Andrew stepped into the place, he was shocked to find that it looked normal. Opulent of course, but like a normal home. With what was going on, he felt like there should at least be a creepy chandelier or something, but that wasn’t the case.
A staircase, with stairs on either side wound up slowly to the second floor. There was a set of doors at the base, under the platform made at the top of the stairs and they were open. It was like looking into the house as more doors were open on the other side.
Andrew swallowed as he looked to the left and to the right. More doors, all open, showing the ’bones’ of the house. Upstairs, the doors were closed, and Andrew instinctively knew that they needed to go upstairs.
It was clear that the other alphas felt the same, even the mated ones.
Ben looked nervous, as did Thomas, but that didn’t mean that either man stopped. Kim, however, growled deep in her throat.
"Those fucking fuckers." Kim added, and the head officer looked back at the two true alphas.
"Have you been here before, Dr. Knox?" For some reason, it shocked Andrew that the man was referring to him by his title in this situation. It didn’t really feel like the right time to call him a Doctor. Andrew’s lips curled up, but it wasn’t a pleasant smile.
"No. I’ve never been. Kim?" Andrew asked and Kim rolled her shoulders.
"Tragically, I have been. Are you feeling the tug, Andy?" Kim asked and Andrew nodded.
He could tell where the source of the pheromones was, and both him and Kim had their eyes locked on the location. It was a little alarming to Andrew to find that the scent was coming from the same direction that it had come from in the Proctor house. Andrew couldn’t keep that thought to himself.
"Is it normal for these freaks to keep it in the same place?" Andrew asked Kim, and watched as everyone turned to look at him. His jaw hardened as Kim let out a dry laugh.
"Well, maybe they keep it in the same place so that they can all brag about how great ’theirs’ is." Kim responded and Andrew was sure he looked just as crazy as she did. "We need to keep moving, officer. We don’t need to clear downstairs yet, or maybe you should send some people downstairs." Kim offered, her gaze focused upstairs.
The officer followed her suggestion, and Ben was pushed with them. Thomas shook his head when Ben went to protest.
"You have a baby, Ben. Shut the hell up. You’re lucky Amir even let you come." Thomas growled to his son, and Ben swallowed. When Ben had looked at Andrew, Andrew just shook his head in silence.
Don’t fight it, just do as he says.
Ben went off and Kim and Andrew moved as if they were compelled by a force. They were, in a way. The officers stayed in front of them, but it was clear they were deferring to the true alphas in the group. Kim was desperately holding onto her sanity, her face sweating, her hands clenched. She looked like she was in pain.
Andrew couldn’t exactly say he was fine either. Maybe it was the fact that he’d been created, manufactured, but while he was suffering, his cock straining ruthlessly against his pants, against his will, he had a rather level head.
He watched as the officers cleared each room they passed, making sure that everything was safe. The officers even listened to him when he suggested that someone wait at the beginning of the hallway they were going down, just in case.
It felt like they were moving slowly, each step felt like they were moving through a viscous liquid. Andrew could tell that his senses were getting warped. It had to be from how overwhelming the scent was.
At one point, Andrew could tell that Kim wasn’t going to make it. She was sweating buckets, her hands wiping away sweat and still she was damp.
It was Andrew who placed his hand on her shoulder telling her to stop. One of the officers had already had to bail to a less potent area. There was no shame in this.
"Kim, stop." Andrew said, and watched as her eyes fluttered and she turned her gaze towards Andrew. He could tell that she wanted to remain, could tell that she wanted to do this.
"No. I can’t...leave you here alone." She mumbled, fighting to get the words past her thick tongue. Andrew knew what she was feeling. He was feeling the same thing. His physical responses were insane. He’d never felt something like this before.
"Kim. You aren’t helping anyone right now. You’ll become a liability if you lose consciousness right now. Go back to the end of the hallway with the other officer at the very least." Andrew said, and the head officer paused as he watched this.
Kim struggled. Against herself, against Andrew’s words, before she covered her face with her hand and took a deep, heavy breath.
"I can’t believe I’m leaving my nephew to do this." She sounded devastated. Truly. Like she was letting someone down. Andrew placed his hand on her shoulder, giving it a squeeze.
"You did say that I was a strong true alpha. Now I just get to prove how strong. Go, Kim. I don’t want to have to explain to Jenny that you lost your mind." Andrew told her. She nodded, breathing heavily, before she turned and headed for the opposite direction. Once she was gone, Andrew, Thomas, and the rest of the officers looked in the direction that they were still going.
"I’m okay." Thomas said into the silence that followed. "I think because I’m regular, and I’ve been mated for as long as I have, that I’m doing okay." Thomas told Andrew without prompting. Andrew examined the man, taking in his flushed cheeks, his sturdy gaze, and nodded.
Out of everyone, he knew that Thomas wouldn’t lie to him about something this serious.
"How is everyone else?" Andrew asked, doing a check in, and the head officer chuckled.
"My men know when to back down, Dr. Knox. How are you doing?" He asked and Andrew nodded. He knew that they had to be worried, since he was a true alpha. Andrew looked down at his hands, checking in with himself.
"Surprisingly well, all things considered. It’s hard, but my mind is very clear." Andrew told them and the officer nodded.
"Let us know when you need to leave." He told Andrew, as if that was an obvious thing. Andrew was sure that it was. There would be a point when Andrew would need to leave, he just wondered when that would be.
They were about three quarters of the way to the door at the end of the hall when Andrew felt a sick sense of deja vu. His stomach rolled as a scent hit his nose that he never thought he would smell. It was so shocking that Andrew stumbled, running into the wall. Thomas was there immediately, phone still in hand, his other grabbing onto Andrew’s arm as Andrew covered his mouth. He was trying not to throw up.
"Andy? What’s wrong? Are you alright?" Thomas asked, concern lacing his voice as Andrew coughed, his shoulders shaking. Why had he not picked up on it earlier? What the hell was that scent doing here?
"F-Fuck." Andrew exclaimed, coughing. He knew his mouth was covered already with the scent protector, but it felt insidious in its ability to get by it. Or maybe, Andrew was just sensitive to it. "I feel like I’m going to throw up." Andrew admitted. Thomas’ gaze grew concerned.
"What? What’s wrong, Andy?" Thomas asked and Andrew just shook his head. There were too many people here, he couldn’t tell Thomas the truth right now. Instead, Andrew fumbled in his pocket, grabbing the small square of fabric that he still had with him.
He took off his mask, his fingers shaking as he shoved the fabric there and locked the thing back onto his face. It was a desperate hope on his part that Maxwell’s scent would overwhelm the awful scent that plagued him.
He had thought he had forgotten how it smelt, but it seemed some things could never be forgotten.
Andrew took a few deep, long breaths, and while the scent wasn’t gone completely, Andrew could feel how Maxwell’s scent soothed him. He closed his eyes, shivering, shuddering as he gathered himself.
"Andy, what’s going on?" Thomas asked, his face serious behind the mask. The head officer also looked rather concerned.
"It’s...a long story. We need to get Nicole first. I’m fine. I’ll...be fine." Andrew told him, shuddering still, and neither Thomas nor the head officer looked convinced. Andrew chuckled. "I won’t attack anyone in the way you’re thinking. I might strangle her if I see her, honestly." Andrew muttered, and that only made Thomas more concerned.
However, they did eventually start moving when Andrew’s frame stopped shaking. Andrew let out a shaky breath.
How was her scent here? Why was her scent here?
