Booking Glory-Chapter 63: - Part 5
Todd and the group watched the rest of the PPV in a relatively relaxed mood. The first match of the PPV had been a banger and the follow-ups were really great as well.
While they didn’t have that much investment in the following matches, they couldn’t fault the amount of in-ring performance that was put forth. Todd, being a wrestling pundit, was really satisfied with the quality of matches LWC had put out.
He was already preparing an in-depth review of the PPV in his mind as the show progressed. He noticed the spectacular things that the talents did and made a note of them, so he would be able to put them down in his article as well.
Frankly, he was struggling to determine what to include in the top ten moments as it was one of the articles he regularly wrote about. He would dissect the entire show and come up with the top ten talking points for the entire show and give them a rating.
Readers liked to read stuff like that. They tended to focus on the list more than boring editorials that droned on and on. It also made it easy for him to structure the article as he already had a clear outline to work with.
However, this time he was struggling because there was too much to include. He was even wondering if he had to extend the list to the top fifteen so that he would be able to list out all the important talking points in the PPV.
And to make the matters worse, the PPV hadn’t even ended yet.
He knew that the main event featuring Mark Weathers and Marshall Jones would have its own talking points as well. This made the article that he was preparing in his mind bloated beyond belief.
It was a sweet torture for him.
He enjoyed this sensation a lot. As a fan, he wanted every PPV to have such a large amount of talking points. But, as a writer, the burden of curating the entire thing and putting out the absolute best also rested on him.
He had to walk a fine line to maintain his credibility with the audience in general. If he missed out on things that a lot of people liked, then it would mean that his article wasn’t credible enough.
Similarly, he should also be able to include finer details that many casual fans would miss. It was the thing that would set his article apart from the other articles that would surely pop up.
So, Todd was a bit distracted when the titantron went blank. Nelson had to nudge him to get his attention. Luckily, Todd didn’t miss out on what was being shown. It would be a great shame to miss out on such a thing.
The video started with an angry Diana Wharton tearing through the backstage area, searching for something. And it became apparent when she shouted at a nearby worker.
"Where is she? Where is that bitch?" Diana screamed causing the worker to whimper.
It was clear to everyone that Diana was searching for Dacey Surestone backstage now. And from the looks of it, her search wasn’t fruitful. The audience who had not yet forgotten the ending of the match cheered seeing Diana go on a tear.
Just then, Mr. Gibson anxiously approached Diana trying to calm her down.
"Diana, Diana, you need to calm down," Mr. Gibson said trying to persuade her.
Diana took a deep breath and turned towards Mr. Gibson, anger still evident in her eyes.
"Andy, where is Dacey?" Diana demanded unceremoniously.
"I am afraid you are searching here in vain. She has already left the building," Mr. Gibson said causing Diana to curse vehemently.
Diana took out her anger on a few pieces of equipment that were present backstage and absolutely thrashed them. Mr. Gibson tried to calm her down, but it was in vain. In the end, Diana turned around and eyed Mr. Gibson.
"Did you see what happened out there? She stole that title from me. Tell me, Andy, what are you going to do about it? Tell me, you have a solution. I will not let her sully that belt even for one extra second," Diana asked vehemently.
"That... that..." Mr. Gibson hedged unsure how to reply.
"Don’t tell me you are fine with what your protégé did out there!!!" Diana hissed getting in Mr. Gibson’s face.
"Diana, I understand your anger and frustration. Trust me, I am also disappointed with her actions. But, her win over you was technically legal. The referee made the call and there is nothing that can be done about it," Mr. Gibson said trying to calm her down.
Instead, that statement only infuriated Diana further.
"You have got to be kidding me," Diana screamed hysterically. "Don’t tell me that what all these people saw was a lie. The referee made a mistake. Now, go reverse it."
"I am afraid, I can’t do that, Diana," Mr. Gibson said sternly. "You should know that the referee’s decision is final inside the ring. The referee announced the winner and now nothing could be done."
"You are joking right?" Diana snorted. "You call that a win? You call that a victory? It is cheating. She cheated in front of the whole world. And everyone saw it, why the heck are you even defending it?"
"I am not defending it. What Dacey did was obviously wrong, I agree with that sentiment hundred percent. However, there isn’t anything I can do about it. The rules don’t allow me to act in such a way," Mr. Gibson said in a calm manner.
"You know what? I think both you and her are in cahoots. First, she viciously attacks me and leaves me bleeding and you say you can’t do anything about it. And now, she blatantly steals my championship and you say you can’t do anything about it either. Tell me, Andy, what in the hell could you do? Tell me, what’s in your power?" Diana said getting in Mr.Gibson’s face.
"Diana, I understand that you are obviously distraught and angry over losing that title. But, I remind you to watch your words. Do not ever question my integrity. I have never in my entire career overstepped the rules. And I will not start doing it for your sake either. So, you need to leave now and calm down. We can discuss this on Wednesday," Mr. Gibson said sternly.
"You know what? Fuck you, Andy. You and Dacey are in cahoots. It is clear to me now. You don’t need to do anything. I will take that championship back myself," Diana said and spat to the side before marching away angrily.
Mr. Gibson looked angry for a moment at the obvious disrespect from Diana. In the end, he let out a loud sigh and composed himself before shaking his head. The video came to an end at that moment, sending the crowd into a discussion frenzy.

"Looks like Mr. Gibson is getting a lot of flak for this situation with the LWC Women’s Championship folks. The former champion, Diana Wharton, who had her title cheated out of her, is apparently not happy with how Mr. Gibson is handling things," Irvin said as the camera started focusing on the commentary table.
"I think she is right. If I were Mr. Gibson, I would strip Dacey of the title and put it back on Diana’s shoulders," Dallas commented.
"On what grounds would you strip the Goddess of her championship, Dallas? On what grounds? There is no legal ground for you to do that. The Goddess won that title fair and square. You can’t strip her of the title," Rob argued back.
"Fair and square! Good Gods Rob! Are you even seeing the same thing we were seeing? She obviously cheated using the rope to get that pinfall. How is it fair and square?"
"But, the referee declared her the winner. That means the Goddess is now the legit LWC Women’s Champion. There is no doubt about it. Mr. Gibson is right, there isn’t anything he could do in this situation. Diana needs to grow up and accept that she lost."
"Diana never lost the title. It was stolen from her by Dacey."
"Apples and Oranges, Dallas. It doesn’t matter how the Goddess emerged victorious. The bottom line is that the Goddess was declared the winner by the referee. End of story. Diana needs to stop whining and move on," Rob said ruthlessly.
"Fat chance of her doing that. From the looks of it, Diana is on an absolute rampage backstage. And Dacey has once more run away like a coward," Dallas scoffed.
"The Goddess has countless things to do with her time compared to sitting around and watching Diana Wharton throw a tantrum backstage, Dallas. She got parties to attend and a victory to celebrate. This whole city is currently in celebration due to her victory. She has places to go," Rob said snidely.
"Like her bedroom, hiding from the world," Dallas snorted in reply to that statement.
"Let me tell you what I think, I think Diana should suck up and admit that she lost. She should stop throwing these tantrums and demanding Mr. Gibson do something about it. She lost in front of all this audience and there are no two ways about it," Rob said heatedly.
"She should accept that loss and try to challenge the Goddess once again if she has the opportunity. Right now, she is acting like a stuck-up princess demanding LWC bend to her will. It is entirely disgraceful to watch. I am glad that Mr. Gibson has enough fortitude to say no to her like that," Rob finished his tirade and shot an angry look at Dallas.
"And you need to start respecting the Goddess as well, Dallas. I will not sit here and here you tarnish her good name with your unfounded accusations," Rob said pointing his finger at Dallas.
"Oh yeah, what are you going to do about it, punk?" Dallas said rising from his seat.
"Guys, guys, let’s all calm down. The main event is up next and there are children watching at home. Do not show them your unprofessional behavior," Irvin piped in calming Dallas down.
"Tell him, Irvin. He is acting like a spoiled child. Throwing insults and looking for fights when he should be reflecting on his mistakes. Just like Diana Wharton," Rob said righteously.
"Rob, you too. Do not antagonize Dallas. I am not sure I will be able to stop him beyond a certain point. Let’s all forget about the Diana-Dacey situation and concentrate on our jobs."
"The main event is up next folks and Mark Weather, the LWC World Champion, will be putting his title on the line against none other than Marshall "The Headsmasher" Jones," Irvin said turning the topic away from the controversial finish. "Here is how this challenge was made."
The titantron went blank once more as the new video featuring the rivalry between Marshall Jones and Mark Weathers started playing. The crowd’s attention was also diverted as they watched the video package.

"That was a great main event. Mark Weathers and Marshall Jones put out an absolute banger of a match," Todd commented.
"I didn’t know Marshall could still wrestle at this level. He is a great wrestler," Jason said nodding as they filed out of the arena after the PPV ended.
"Nah, it was Mark carrying him for most of the match. Mark’s game is currently on a different level compared to other wrestlers on the roster. He is genuinely their top talent. No wonder, he is their top draw," Todd replied shaking his head.
"Still, they put out a great match. Marshall pulled his weight as well, in my opinion," Logan said siding with Jason.
"You are kidding, right?" Malora asked in exasperation. "He blew up halfway into the match. Mark had to carry him for the rest of the match. He was breathing like a buffalo in there."
"But, it made up for a great story. The match was amazing," Jason defended himself and Logan.
"No one is saying that the match wasn’t good," Nelson butted in seeing that an argument was practically on the cards. "We just disagree on that Marshall part. To us, Mark did most of the work in the second half of the match."
"True," Todd chimed in. "Marshall’s stamina wasn’t up to par. He is able to wrestle ten to twelve minutes easily. Above that, he becomes winded and someone else has to carry the match."
"Whatever, I didn’t feel like that. It felt natural to me," Jason said shrugging.
"Hmmm, however, I think we can all agree on the best match. It was Dacey vs Diana, hands down," Malora chipped in happily. "They set the bar pretty high."
"I think it is not much about wrestling. Their match and the main event were of the same quality. But, theirs was more compelling as they had a loaded story heading into it. And the story isn’t done yet," Todd said analyzing the two matches.
"It doesn’t matter why, all I care about is that Dacey vs Diana was the match of the night," Malora shot back.
"I agree," the rest chimed in unison.
"The match, the way they integrated their characters, Dacey’s antics, and the controversial finish, all of them were good," Nelson said enthusiastically. "I can practically smell big money around it. I am telling you, this rivalry is going to make a ton of money for LWC."
"You and your obsession with money," Malora shook her head and turned to Jason and Logan. "Well boys, it is time to pay up. You better not forget that you two owe a drink."
"Don’t worry, we won’t back out of such a simple thing," Logan chuckled causing others to laugh out. "I think it would be better to head back to Top Slam, instead of searching for some pub around here."
"Yeah, I bet the atmosphere there will be heated as well. Let’s go join that party." Malora said enthusiastically.
"Do you need to check up on Rob?" Todd asked Nelson.
"No need, today is show night. He will be busy with stuff and he usually avoids dropping in on show nights," Nelson shook his head.
"Then, what are we waiting for? Let’s go enjoy this night. Let’s party in the name of the Goddess," Jason said cheering.
"And her pouring beer on your head," Malora chuckled joining in.
"Oi, that was uncalled for. But, you are right, I need to celebrate that as well. Damn, I am going to be the most sought-after man tonight," Jason said pumping his arms.
"Dream on, you nerd," Malora rolled her eyes.
"Just you watch. I am gonna use that story to get loads of free drinks tonight. People will be lining up to hear about that," Jason said shamelessly.
"Whatever, let’s make a move," Nelson said herding them in the direction of Top Slam.
