Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 101: Tina Prepares a Grand Gift to Win Mother Sinclair’s Favor
The two of them accompanied Mrs. Sinclair shopping until it was dark before they finished.
Even though Mrs. Sinclair looks delicate, her shopping stamina is truly formidable.
Both of them were so tired they could barely move, but Mrs. Sinclair was still energetically going from one store to another.
Tina Huxley, whose feet were already hurting from exhaustion, was still forcing a smile. Not wanting to continue shopping, Nina White secretly sent her a message, asking her to quickly think of a reason to invite Mrs. Sinclair to a restaurant to eat, so they could at least sit down and rest.
Tina had the same thought. She walked up to Mrs. Sinclair and said, "Aunt Sinclair, there’s a newly opened restaurant nearby. The food is excellent, shall we go there and sit for a while?"
"Well... I’m afraid not," Mrs. Sinclair swept up some stray hair and tucked it behind her ear, saying regretfully, "I’ve already made plans with someone else this evening, and it’s about time for that."
"No worries, no worries," Tina waved her hand with a smile, "Then let’s find another time to get together. I can invite my mom too. She also thinks the restaurant is fantastic."
After a particularly satisfying afternoon of shopping, Mrs. Sinclair hesitated for a moment before speaking, "How about this? You and your mother come to my place tomorrow. I’ve brought some gifts for your mom from my trip abroad, and I haven’t seen her for a long time, so it would be nice to catch up."
Tina’s eyes lit up at this invitation.
She had been fretting over how to arrange another meeting with Mrs. Sinclair.
"Great, I’ll definitely tell my mom when I get back. I won’t hold you up any longer. See you tomorrow, Aunt Sinclair."
Mrs. Sinclair nodded with a smile and said to Tina, "Alright, see you tomorrow."
Then Tina personally saw Mrs. Sinclair off to her car.
As Mrs. Sinclair’s car drove away, Nina stepped forward and playfully nudged Tina’s arm with her finger, "Seems like it all went smoothly! It won’t be long before I can call you Mrs. Sinclair."
Tina quickly covered Nina’s mouth with her hand, "Don’t jinx it, I’m scared."
Nina pried her hand away, "Look at you, such a scaredy-cat."
"You’re the only brave one here."
Nina draped an arm around Tina’s shoulder, leaning on her for support as she eased the pressure off her right foot, full of sighs and lament, "I’m telling you, your future mother-in-law really loves shopping. I suggest you start training for it. Look at how exhausted you are today. If she drags you along for a whole day in the future, it’s gonna be torture."
Tina wasn’t the least bit worried, "I’m just worn out from work in the past few days and haven’t rested well, which is why I’m out of sorts today. If I’ve had a good night’s sleep, I could go shopping with her all day without complaining of being tired."
"Alright, you’re tough," Nina raised a thumb at her, "From this, it’s clear you’re meant to be part of their family."
This struck a chord with Tina; she blushed and patted Nina’s hand with a shy smile, "You always know what to say. Today’s been hard on you as well. Since Mrs. Sinclair isn’t going, let’s go, and I’ll treat you to something delicious."
"Alright, but let me make this clear, I’m so tired today that my feet could split open, so I won’t hold back." Nina perked up, pulling Tina along as they headed toward their car parked nearby.
"No problem."
The next morning.
After discussing the garden layout with the gardener, Mrs. Huxley walked into the living room, glancing around before asking the maid who just came downstairs, "Where’s Tina? Hasn’t she gotten up yet?"
The maid shook her head, "Miss Tina is still sleeping. She mentioned last night that she doesn’t want to be awakened until nine-thirty this morning."
"Nine-thirty? No, no, that’s too late! We have something important this noon, and it’s already eight-thirty. If she doesn’t get up now, when will she have time to get ready!"
As she spoke, Mrs. Huxley hurried upstairs and pushed open Tina’s bedroom door.
"Tina, don’t sleep any longer. We still have lunch at the Sinclair Family today. Don’t you want to get dressed up?"
Still half-asleep, Tina pulled the quilt over her head, mumbling, "There’s no hurry. Maxim isn’t going home this noon, so he won’t see me even if I get all dolled up."
"I think you’ve worked too hard these days and have gotten muddle-headed," Mrs. Huxley pulled the quilt off her, "Even if Maxim isn’t there, his mother is. You need to dress up nicely so she’ll want you as a daughter-in-law."
Groggy from being pulled up, Tina looked at her mom with sleepy eyes, "Mom, did you forget what you told me before? Maxim’s mother doesn’t like being overshadowed at gatherings."
"Being overshadowed at ordinary times and having a beautiful daughter-in-law are different things," Mrs. Huxley called the maid over, and together they dragged Tina out of bed and into the bathroom, "You take a nice soak, and I’ll check which outfit for you will suit... Mother Sinclair’s taste."
Two hours later, Tina, who had been meticulously dressed, arrived as agreed with her mother at the Crestview Villa District, home to Maxim’s mother.
After the car passed through the security checkpoint, Tina remembered something and asked Mrs. Huxley in a low voice, "Is the reason Aunt Sinclair chose to host lunch here because Uncle Sinclair won’t be attending?"
"That’s about right," Mrs. Huxley nodded, "Maxim’s parents haven’t appeared in the same place together for over two years. If I’m not mistaken, his father is still abroad. They’ve been keeping up appearances while living separate lives."
Tina frowned slightly, a thought surfacing in her mind that after marrying Maxim, she might end up like that too.
Worried Tina might show something in her expression, Mrs. Huxley continued, cautiously reminding her, "Once we’re at Aunt Sinclair’s, don’t show any unusual expressions. She’s quite sensitive."
"Don’t worry, I won’t," Tina nodded earnestly, "I know where to draw the line."
After saying this, Tina looked down, uneasily patting the wooden box in her hands, "I just hope this bracelet will win her favor."
"It surely will," Mrs. Huxley spoke with great certainty, "This bracelet is a genuine antique. They say it originated from the palace collection. Your father managed to snag it through luck when auctioned. If put up for auction now, its price would more than double."
Hearing this, a deeper smile spread in Tina’s eyes, "That’s wonderful. Aunt Sinclair loves antique jade, especially rare ones."
"Exactly, she loves auction treasures. If it weren’t for the Sinclair family’s wealth, she would have divorced when Maxim’s father had an affair while she was pregnant."
Having vaguely heard about this, Tina’s expression turned slightly complex, "Were Maxim’s parents in an arranged marriage too?"
