Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 32: Warning to Linda
Assistant Fletcher pushed the door open and walked up behind Summer Lowell, who was admiring the view by the large floor-to-ceiling window, "Director Lowell, I’ve passed on the message about pausing the Four Seasons project for a few days."
"Got it." Summer Lowell handed her empty water cup to her, "Please put it on the table for me."
The assistant placed the cup down and returned, a bit concerned, "Director Lowell, are you okay?"
"I’m fine. The situation isn’t too terrible yet, still within my capacity to handle," Summer Lowell gave a slight smile to the worried-looking Assistant Fletcher, "Go ahead with your work, don’t worry about me."
Unable to offer much help, Assistant Fletcher hesitated for a long moment before finally turning to leave the office.
The moment the door closed, the smile on Summer Lowell’s face vanished completely.
Since she returned from Noah’s office, she had been standing in front of this giant window, lost in thought.
From where she stood, she could see the Sinclair Tower in the distance, its towering structure reaching the clouds, with the massive logo on the roof reflecting the sunlight.
While she was standing there daydreaming, she recalled for the umpteenth time the scene when she first met Maxim Sinclair at the Sinclair Group.
If she had been a bit more composed at the time, not so aggressive and bold, and had known how to keep a low profile, perhaps Maxim Sinclair would not have noticed her during his rare inspection of the branch office.
If so, she wouldn’t have been brought back to headquarters by Maxim Sinclair, and wouldn’t have ended up in this ill-fated relationship.
Originally, she was just a small pawn planted by Stellart in the Sinclair branch office. According to her direct supervisor back then, she only needed to complete a very simple task before she could return to Leonia.
But at that time, she was young and impulsive, unwilling to be sidelined by her intern peers, and out of spite, she stole the spotlight, fully establishing her presence in front of Maxim Sinclair who was inspecting the branch office.
"Alas, perhaps it’s fate. If I hadn’t volunteered to speak back then, I wouldn’t have been assigned to work by Maxim Sinclair’s side, and certainly wouldn’t have foolishly agreed to be with him..."
Summer Lowell slowly exhaled a deep breath. One wrong step leads to more missteps.
But with the situation now, regretting is pointless.
She had already offended Maxim Sinclair considerably, and now she had to do whatever it took to keep her current position.
Summer Lowell clapped her hands, turned and walked to the office door, calling out to Assistant Fletcher, who was talking to someone, "Gather all our department’s designers in the main conference room for a meeting in a bit."
"Alright, Director Lowell."
Ten minutes later, Summer Lowell entered the conference room empty-handed, took her place at the head and surveyed the room: "Everyone here, right? There’s something I need to say. Because Sinclair Group poached two crucial designers from the Four Seasons project, the project must be halted temporarily."
After speaking, Summer Lowell paused and scanned the room, noticing the designers weren’t showing much surprise, she smiled slightly: "But this project is mandated by headquarters to be completed, so I’ve decided to pause all projects except for the Glamour project and reassign designers to the Four Seasons project team."
Her words caused an uproar in the room.
Linda, who was always at odds with her, was the first to raise her hand, "Many projects are already at their final stages, how can you just stop them? You can’t sacrifice our junior designers’ interests for your own gain, can you?"
Summer Lowell stared at her, hesitating for a while, ultimately deciding against bringing up the document she previously saw at Varden Villa.
This woman, she’ll have her day.
"I’m suggesting this, not mandating it," Summer Lowell averted her gaze from Linda’s face, and tapped the table to quiet the room, "The choice is yours. I’ve secured a promise from President Norris that if the Four Seasons project succeeds, your quarterly bonuses will double, and there will be two funded spots for further study in Freland. Whether or not you join this project team is up to you."
She finished speaking and left, leaving everyone in the conference room looking at each other.
Linda, who couldn’t stand her authority, pulled out her phone from her pocket, her eyes showing a hint of struggle.
Suddenly, a hand reached over from the side, and Linda looked up surprised, finding Summer Lowell had returned without her noticing.
Feeling guilty, Linda instinctively snatched her phone back, "You...why are you grabbing my phone?"
The return of Summer Lowell made everyone in the conference room halt their discussions, watching silently.
"Step outside, I have something to ask you."
Under the scrutiny of the whole conference room, Linda, unwilling to go out with her, remained motionless in her chair, "Can’t you say it here?"
Glancing around, Summer Lowell locked eyes with Linda, "You sure you want me to ask here? I suggest you recall what you’ve done before making your decision."
Indeed feeling guilty, Linda quickly stood up, "Fine, I’ll go out. I don’t want to take the blame for something I didn’t do."
Uninterested in petty arguments, Summer Lowell gave her an indifferent look and turned to leave the conference room first.
Outside the conference room, Summer Lowell gestured for Linda to join her in a discreet spot, looking down at her, "We’ve known each other for a while, you should know right now I’m facing a mess."
Linda sneered, "So? Are you begging me to join the Four Seasons project team to help you?"
"You’re overthinking," Summer Lowell scoffed, suddenly flicking Linda’s badge on her chest, "Considering how long we’ve known each other, I advise you to work honestly, and don’t engage in any treacherous activities. I’d rather not send my people to the police station."
Though her words were ambiguous, they sent a chill down Linda’s spine.
Linda eyed her suspiciously, "What do you mean by that? I don’t understand."
Upon hearing this, Summer Lowell laughed, "Typically, when someone says that, it means they’ve already understood. Linda, someone as smart as you should have guessed what I’m talking about."
"I can’t guess, stop making things up. What’s so special about being a director? If you don’t like me, why don’t you just fire me?"
"That’s unnecessary," Summer Lowell looked away dismissively, then smiled warmly at Linda, "Firing you would require compensation, which isn’t worth it! Be honest, or I might just end up sending you to the police station!"
"I haven’t done anything detrimental to the company, what gives you the right to send me to the police?" Linda recovered her composure, took a step back, and lowered her voice to counter her.
"I didn’t say you’ve done anything yet," Summer Lowell spread her hands with a smile, "I’m just reminding you today that before you think about doing anything, you should remember what I’ve said. Don’t act on a whim and go astray. After all, if you end up in the police station, your life would be ruined, wouldn’t it?"
