Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 46: Blocking Unfavorable News
Assistant Collins, feeling utterly puzzled: "Who said that? As the president’s assistant, even I don’t know about it. How could anyone’s information be faster or more accurate than mine?"
The group exchanged glances, and the man who first spoke stepped forward to explain, "When Hudson went in to deliver some documents, he saw President Sinclair and Miss Huxley hugging by the window. He was so startled that he immediately backed out."
"Is this for real?" Assistant Collins was stunned, "Is it true? How come I didn’t know?"
"It should be true. Hudson didn’t intend to spread the word. He was just scared at the time and casually asked some colleagues nearby if interrupting President Sinclair’s date would get him fired. He didn’t notice the surroundings when he asked, and others overheard, leading to us finding out."
As soon as he finished, another person joined in, "But Assistant Collins, with your understanding of President Sinclair, what’s really going on between him and Miss Huxley?"
One of Assistant Collins’s survival principles in the office was not to gossip about his own boss, so he shook his head immediately, "I’m not sure. Anyway, President Sinclair only said she’s a fairly good friend, nothing more." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
As one of Maxim Sinclair’s most trusted assistants, his words carried weight.
Hearing this, the others lost some of their gossiping enthusiasm.
"Maybe Hudson saw it wrong. After all, even seeing isn’t always believing. Sometimes the angle is off, and you can easily misinterpret things."
"That’s possible. Never mind, let’s not talk nonsense."
Assistant Collins adjusted his glasses, nodded at everyone still fixated on him, and said meaningfully, "Everyone, remember that President Sinclair detests those who spread rumors. If there really is something between him and Miss Huxley, he’ll let everyone know when the time is right."
As they spoke, the elevator reached the floor of the president’s office.
Assistant Collins stepped out, hurried back to Maxim Sinclair’s office to organize things, and hesitated momentarily, wondering whether to inform him about today’s rumor.
But seeing that Maxim’s mood wasn’t great, he dismissed the idea of reporting.
Late at night.
Tina Huxley, freshly bathed, sat cross-legged on a blanket, chatting with her best friend on her phone and seeking advice on how to pursue a man.
As they chatted, the best friend gave a piece of advice she found quite favorable.
"When you’re pursuing someone, don’t forget to eliminate all potential love rivals to increase your chances of success."
Tina Huxley stared at this message, and Summer Lowell’s face flashed in her mind.
She picked up the mirror beside her, gazed at it for a moment, and said, "No, I must deal with the threat posed by Summer Lowell sooner rather than later."
The next morning, Maxim Sinclair had just finished a small meeting with the company’s top management when he received a call: "President Sinclair, what have you been busy with lately?"
"Busy with work, what else? Why are you calling me?"
"How do you know I have something to say?"
The person on the other end was Liam Quinn, Maxim Sinclair’s high school friend. They had stayed in touch because of their matched personalities, from high school to now.
"You’re always super busy. If it’s something minor, you’d usually say it on WeChat. It must be something significant if you’re calling."
"You guessed right," Liam Quinn chuckled over the phone, "but unfortunately, it’s not good news."
"Expecting good news from your mouth is a miracle," Maxim Sinclair retorted mercilessly, "Go ahead, what news have you got now?"
"To be honest, when I first saw this news, I couldn’t believe you, of all people, were the main character. Maxim Sinclair, you’ve never had any scandals before!"
Liam Quinn laughed gleefully on the line.
Maxim pressed the speaker button, put the phone aside, and resumed reviewing the unfinished documents.
Liam Quinn laughed until he was exhausted and then said, "Someone tried to sell me a story suggesting you have feelings for your secretary, and that this secretary is an undercover agent placed beside you by someone else. The plot is so well-written, even I almost believed it."
Maxim Sinclair paused, fixating on his still-lit phone, "When did this happen?"
"It happened today, about an hour ago. But I’ve already suppressed the story that came to me, so it won’t be published. However, my influence is limited, and I can’t control what other outlets do, so keep an eye out."
"Got it," Maxim picked up the phone and turned off the speaker, "no need for pleasantries. Many thanks to you; pick any wine you like when you come over."
"No need to thank me; it’s what friends do. But, your reaction... Maxim Sinclair, is the story true? Are you really going for your secretary?"
Liam Quinn couldn’t suppress his curiosity and asked further.
"We’ll chat later. Gotta go." Maxim ended the call, scrolling through his contacts lightly before dialing, "Hello..."
In the afternoon, Tina Huxley kept refreshing her phone. After several failed refresh attempts, she looked up and called over the busy secretary nearby, "How’s your phone’s internet connection?"
The secretary took out her phone, checked, and replied, "The network is smooth, no issues at all. What’s wrong, President Huxley? Is your phone not connecting to the internet? Should I call the tech department to take a look?"
"No rush," Tina muttered, holding her phone, pondering a bit, then looking at the secretary, "The task I gave you last night, why is there no result yet?"
"I’m puzzled too. I just sent a follow-up message asking about it, but haven’t heard back yet."
Tina Huxley tapped the table irritably, "Call them and ask what’s going on!"
"Understood, President Huxley."
The secretary dialed right in front of Tina, hanging up after less than two minutes of conversation.
"How did it go?" Tina looked at her anxiously.
The secretary shook her head lightly, "The other party said they’ve refunded the money back to our account, saying somehow Maxim Sinclair discovered the news. It seems like Maxim applied some method, and now no one dares to publish that article."
"What?!" Tina Huxley stood up in frustration, slamming the table, "Just a little more, and I could have permanently driven her out of Stellarion."
After venting her anger, a more pressing matter occurred to Tina, "Maxim Sinclair found out? Did he discover your involvement in the background manipulation?"
"That shouldn’t be the case. I used someone else’s account as you instructed, so even if President Sinclair investigates, he won’t trace it back to us."
"That’s good." Tina’s expression softened slightly, "Forget it, it didn’t work this time. I’ll come up with another plan."
