Chapter 57: Zheren vs Grakthar

They were two long, thin humanoids of a gray color. They had large black eyes and long claws that reached the ground. When they noticed them, they began to look at Zheren dangerously.

Zheren immediately charged at them, but they dodged him. Then they started attacking him, but Zheren cut off one of their arms, while the other managed to dodge and hit Zheren in the back.

Zheren almost impaled one of them, but he actually impaled the other. The last one kept dodging Zheren’s attacks, but eventually, Zheren impaled him as well.

These were already a bit stronger, or rather faster, but it still didn’t give Zheren too much trouble. Zheren collected their corpses and continued deeper.

Zheren walked deeper into the dungeon, his footsteps in the dark tunnel sounding like heavy hammer strikes on metal. His presence was massive and intimidating, and almost no stage 1 monster dared to approach. Itai walked beside him without a care.

Then a figure appeared in front of them, its silhouette pierced by faint light from cracks in the stone walls. It was a large, muscular creature with four arms and thick black fur that shimmered faintly in the light. Its eyes glowed with a fiery red light, and in each hand, it held a massive axe with sharp blades gleaming like freshly sharpened steel.

Zheren stopped and thoughtfully watched the creature, which began to slowly walk toward him. The monster sized him up, slowly grinding its teeth as if considering its attack.

"Grakthar," the creature roared in a deep voice.

The monster raised all four arms at once and lunged forward at incredible speed. The axes spun like a whirlwind, aiming at Zheren from various angles.

Zheren leapt to the side sharply, with one axe just barely missing his skull. He then turned and thrust his sword against one of the axes, deflecting the attack, but another axe hit him in the shoulder. The heavy blow pushed him slightly backward but did not stop him.

The monster tried to take advantage of its dominance and deliver a decisive blow, but Zheren moved surprisingly quickly, slamming his heavy fist into the monster’s face and crushing its jaw. The creature staggered and hissed in painful rage.

Zheren wasted no time. He took advantage of the moment of weakness and kicked the creature directly in the chest, resulting in the sound of cracking bones. He then raised his massive hands and struck the monster like a falling boulder with a powerful blow.

However, the monster did not give up and attacked again, leaping backward and launching a series of attacks at Zheren. Some of them hit him, but most were blocked.

Finally, when the monster ran out of stamina and its movements became clumsy, Zheren raised his sword high above his head and brought it down on the monster’s head with tremendous force.

This monster gave Zheren quite a bit of trouble. It was at Novice stage 2, while Zheren was at Mid stage 2.

"Alright, the hunt is over. I think this should give around those remaining 7 gold coins," muttered Itai.

Then Zheren put the monster’s corpse into the sack, filling it completely. So, only half of one sack was left empty, but they didn’t plan to use it since they were already leaving the dungeon.

It was hard to get lost in the dungeon; when someone wanted to go out, they just had to follow the tunnels leading in the same direction from where they came, and eventually, they would get there. The walls were adorned with mana-powered torches, so they never went out and would forever keep the place illuminated.

Itai walked carelessly along with Zheren. After a while, they reached the alley where Itai had finished off that adventurer. It looked like a small group of adventurers had gathered around him.

"Hey, do you know who this is?" one of them asked.

"I can feel magical energy from him, so he must have died recently. Anyway, he’s just Novice Stage 1," said another adventurer.

"I can feel it. I always advise newcomers to wait for someone to take them into a group rather than going solo," another one added.

The adventurers immediately noticed them. "Hey, do you know who this is?" one of them asked Itai.

"No. I’m new to the Imperial City," replied Itai.

"Hmh, I haven’t seen you before. Can I ask your name?" another adventurer inquired.

"Well, I’m Itai, and the big one next to me is Zheren," Itai said.

Then Itai said goodbye to them and continued toward the exit. Shortly after, he encountered more adventurers and saw the light coming from outside.

Itai stepped outside and took a deep breath of fresh air. "Alright, Zheren. It’s time to become a real adventurer," said Itai.

Many adventurers outside were talking about him when they saw him. The fact that Morborn marked him as interesting brought him some fame.

Then they headed to the Imperial City, all the way to the Adventurers’ Guild. It was about 15 kilometers, 5 kilometers to the city and 10 kilometers from the outskirts to the Adventurers’ Guild, so Itai had to take breaks since he wasn’t exactly physically fit.

"Finally," Itai said when he saw the Adventurers’ Guild building in front of him.

He then tossed the adventurer badge to Zheren. "Go sell it in that room on the left, just place the sack with the corpses there, show the badge, and wait for them to give you the money. You don’t have to say anything, perfect for you," Itai said.

Then Zheren disappeared behind the door, leaving Itai waiting. It should take about 15 minutes.

Itai waited and waited, and eventually, half an hour passed, but there was no sign of Zheren. "This Zheren is gonna drive me crazy. Why is it taking so long? I hope he didn’t mess something up," muttered Itai angrily. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
