Chapter 109: Risky maneuver

Alfar had finally settled all the prisoners on the east side. They had enough space there for everyone because of the courtyards, but the Dark elf was getting nervous, as they were too distant from each other.

If the Ridires searched in there and found them, it would be difficult to contact the other groups gathered in the other courtyards far away, and even harder to be able to go help in time to prevent the consequences of that encounter.

"However, even if they do find us, what they can do? All these prisoners can slaught them easily, we outnumber completely the total of Ridires protecting Halden. This prison never was prepared for such an attack before. The only handicap is the quality of resources and good equipment, but it is something we can overcome!" Alfar was getting frustrated with that decision they made.

Their major advantage was to gather everyone in different groups and spread bunches of armed prisoners through Halden to take it completely. That plan was working before.

Even though something bad could have happened, it was impossible to think about what it could be.

At some point, Alfar wondered if it would be a good idea to confront Casper about that matter, getting the communicator from Olaf to call him.

Nonetheless, he didn’t need to do such a thing, because Olaf himself appeared at the courtyard he was, lending it to him.

"Casper wanna talk with you. He didn’t explain why, exactly."

He picked up the communicator and began to talk with him.

"What’s up, Casper?" He spoke, in a cold tone. Alfar wasn’t good in hide his emotions, particularly the negative ones.

"You are leading the huge group in the courtyard at the right side of the east, I suppose?" He didn’t greet or anything. The soldier was in a hurry and asked it quickly.

"Yes, I am encharged of them. We split the 512 prisoners into four courtyards.

"We found Ragnar, and he helped to take care of one of those. He can help a lot with the communication as well with his telepathic skills, but this is useless if he is not in the frontier gathering information to pass for us."

Casper delayed a bit to respond, Alfar heard that he was working frantically on something on the other side of the line.

"Yeah, I know this. However, that’s not the issue here. I need you to take your group and move to the north."

Alfar tried to think of what that guy was thinking, but Casper was quite unpredictable when he wanted to.

"Casper, I will, but tell me what’s happening..." When he was finishing to ask, Casper ended the call and didn’t respond anymore.

Alfar’s blood boiled, and he felt that he was about to snap. He clenched his fists, holding that communicator with such strength that it seemed to be about to break.

Carefully, Olaf took again the communicator and kept it with him. He did not need to ask the Dark elf how was the call because he already knew.

"I know that it’s harsh to work with him. And at this point, I want to turn him down as well, but we don’t have another choice."

Alfar bit his lip, not answering Olaf regarding what he said and turning his back to him.

"Please, man, contact Ragnar and say to him to communicate with all the prisoners from the courtyard I am, telling them to march towards the north."

Olaf promptly nodded for him, leaving the place.

Soon, Alfar was leading a huge group of prisoners to the north side.

It didn’t take too much time for Casper to find a way to contact the other groups.

He designated each one to go to a different location little by little. Those movements were looking to be made carefully. Casper wasn’t just giving disconnected orders, he was calculating something.

The groups were positioning themselves in certain places in each of the four cardinal points, counterclockwise, starting from the north.

Olaf was the first to notice what possibly was that maneuver.

"Isn’t it something that the Ridires generally do? It’s a protocol used for them to protect closed locations, trapping the enemy while chasing after them... Or am I wrong?

"I mean, why the Ridires would be gathered together like this? They weren’t supposed to be spread through Halden?"

The drive continued for some time until the final group was settled and they stopped, waiting for new orders.

...

Casper had made a lot in that time. First, he messed with the elevator, making it stop working.

His priority there was to prevent those dangerous Ridires to keep increasing their numbers nonstop. He was not sure how many people the Third Lab was sending to Halden, but he wasn’t willing to discover at all. Just that quantity alone would be more than enough to wipe a good part of them.

The next thing he did was to slip on purpose while browsing that Network, so he could be sure that the Ridires would know how he was operating.

Then, he predicted what was the way they would take in their march, and gave orders to counter this.

Just when he finished the last thing he needed with the master key and deactivated it, Casper heard someone shout at the door of his lockdown room.

That voice was quite familiar.

"White warrior, we know that you are inside this room! We have a bunch of warriors around, prepared to even kill you if needed. They are spread in different locations and surrounding the room you are in. There is not even a single place to run!" Freygar shouted behind the door, giving strong knocks at it.

Casper stood up, with a confident look on his face, calm steps, slow pace. Using the same tone as Freygar used with him, he shouted back:

"Freygar, I know that your men are settled in the corridors in the surroundings, and I know exactly their location. But, too bad for you, we thought of the same plan! But I am more ambitious than you so, instead of surround a single person, I have 512 prisoners settled in different points, each one closer from here than another. You and your troops are surrounded here.

"Ah, and I have more: each group of prisoners is next to vital places in Halden, such as the Maintenance room, infirmary, security room, energy room, and even the Headquarters. They will destroy each one of these places and end up with years of structuration and research at my signal."

Freygar got silent on the other side of the door. He felt that Casper had also stood up, and was looking intently towards the door the same way he was.

"This freaking guy fooled all of us... I can’t believe it... What the heck..." The Aesir gritted his teeth, starting to get impatient.

"We have more troops spread through Halden, we can easily contact them and subdue the groups of prisoners one by one..."

Casper giggled inside the lockdown, which made the usually calm Ridire get even angrier.

"Yeah, ok, and how will you do it? Communicators? They don’t work anymore unless I enable them to do. I made a mess with the signal of this place."

"Then, we have a dilemma here. What will you do, White warrior? You have us in your hands, and I have you. If we kill you, will your comrades avenge your death, or give up? If you stay alive, what will you do next? The disadvantage is more yours than ours, you know?"

The soldier got silent for a moment. Freygar asked exactly what he wanted him to ask, but he couldn’t answer immediately to not appear that the balance was inclined to him.

"Maybe we can make a deal?" He questioned.

"What kind of deal?"

"Let me get out of here. I will lead my troops to the north side of Halden, towards the exit. The group will gather slowly, and soon you will be out of this trap I made, then you can chase after us without being harmed.

"Let’s see who will run faster, and who will deal with the pressure of escape and chase better."

Casper knew that Freygar had developed a competitive spirit towards him, just as much as the soldier himself did. Because of it, the Aesir would not give up on a gamble so easily, particularly with the possibility to fight Casper again at stake.

Freygar was the one to start pondering on what to do now. He walked back and forth in front of the door, viciously rubbing his neck.

"That’s a risky maneuver, Casper. First surround not a group or a single person, but an entire troop. After this, try to race against us inside a complex filled with our warriors... I need to admit, you have got some guts." He heard the Aesir cheering sarcastically out there. "But, are you sure that it’s enough?"

Casper opened the door from the lockdown, finally staring at the face of that man, the tension raising all of a sudden.

"Let’s see whether it is or not." He walked past the Aesir, controlling himself, then ran away.
