Divine Convenience Store-Chapter 545: Cannot Switch?
The second wave arrived a minute later. But to Lin Mo and Liu Xiaoyu, who didn’t spend a lot of their energy against the first wave, they immediately prepared themselves to act at the same time as the summoning circles flared to life.
Unlike the previous heavy, earthy thrum or the silent void, these circles seemed to scream with elemental volatility.
To their left, a massive pool of electrified water bubbled up from the stone floor.
It defied gravity, rising into a serpentine column of liquid that coiled and writhed like a living tsunami. Within its translucent blue body, arcs of captured lightning swam like eels.
[Abyssal Current Leviathan] 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
[Attribute: Water/Conduction]
[Trait: Lightning Absorption, Fluid Body, Hydro-Electric Discharge]
To their right, a creature formed not of flesh or stone, but of a thousand floating, razor-sharp mirrors coalesced. It resembled a drake, but its scales were polished surfaces that reflected the arena, the void above, and the worried expressions of the challengers.
[Prismatic Reflection Wyrm]
[Attribute: Light/Mirror]
[Trait: Energy Reflection, Optical Camouflage, Starlight Refraction]
"Water that eats lightning and a wyrm made out of glass mirrors..." Lin Mo muttered in a tone that spoke of something close to helplessness, "Are these real creatures in the Realm of Nine Heavens or whatever Fractured Plane this Tower originated? This is absurd."
"Hehe. I don’t know, Boss. But isn’t it just water and glass? Besides, they’re only a little stronger than the kitty and the rock! Early Core Formation Stage. We’re stronger than that! I’ll smash the glass, and you boil the water! Switch!"
"Yep. Switch!" Lin Mo nodded.
There’s no point trying to guess it now. They just have to defeat it, after all. Whether they’re real creatures or abominations generated by the tower to counter them, it didn’t matter anymore.
With that. They crossed paths as their bodies blurred into action. One turned into lightning while the other became like a shiny phantom, leaving confusing crimson afterimages behind.
Liu Xiaoyu aimed for the Prismatic Reflection Wyrm on the right, intending to shatter its delicate-looking body with a storm-infused punch. Lin Mo targeted the Leviathan on the left, planning to use the [Stellar Domain] to suppress its fluid form.
But the tower creatures had anticipated the tactic.
Just as they crossed the center of the arena, the floor blazed with blinding white light.
The Prismatic Reflection Wyrm flapped its mirror wings, catching the ambient light of the arena and focusing it into a single, vertical beam that slammed into the ground between the two of them.
ZNNNG!
A moment later, a wall of solid, prismatic light erupted, bisecting the arena from floor to the sky. As for how tall it was, Lin Mo had no idea but he would need to fly so high to cross over it.
Understanding that, he skidded to a halt and got forced to jump back to avoid being sliced in half by the rising barrier.
On the other side, he heard Xiaoyu yelp as she bounced off the hard light surface.
Their switching places strategy had been blocked!
"What the hell is this adaptability? Are you telling me we’re not allowed to switch anymore?" Lin Mo gritted his teeth as he cursed at the tower’s system.
Through the translucent, distorting wall, he could see Liu Xiaoyu’s blurred silhouette standing up while rubbing her forehead.
She was on the left side. With the [Abyssal Current Leviathan].
And he was on the right side. With the [Prismatic Reflection Wyrm].
"Now, this... is inconvenient," Lin Mo sighed, turning to face the shimmering wyrm.
It hovered silently in the air as its thousand mirrored scales reflected Lin Mo’s image back to him. It was a creature designed specifically to counter light-based arts.
And with how the tower seemed to have the ability to inject absolute immunity, starlight qi would probably bounce off it, or worse, be refracted or reflected back at him.
On the other side of the wall, the sound of sizzling electricity and splashing water echoed.
"Hey! Stop eating my attacks!" Liu Xiaoyu’s frustrated shout rang out, muffled by the barrier.
The Leviathan roared with a wet, gurgling sound as its body seemed to flash with its electricity.
Lin Mo also couldn’t help but curse at it for not following the elemental rules of a Pokémon. Water should be weak to lightning, after all.
"Xiaoyu! Don’t use your lightning! Just brute force it!" Lin Mo shouted. At the very least, sound wasn’t blocked off. "It’s a conductor! It’s gonna feed off of you!"
But before he could hear her reply, the Prismatic Wyrm shrieked with a grating sound like grinding glass.
It flared its wings, and a barrage of light, prismatic spears shot towards him.
Lin Mo reacted instinctively, channeling his starlight qi into his spear for a [Starcoil Thrust] to intercept the projectiles.
Unfortunately, it was a bad move.
The moment his starlight qi touched the Wyrm’s prismatic spears, his energy was absorbed, twisted, and reflected instantly, enhancing his opponent’s attack.
FLASH!
The attack rebounded with double the force.
Lin Mo barely managed to activate [Aetheric Bulwark] in time.
CLANG!
He was thrown back, his boots carving grooves in the stone floor. His arms went numb as his armor’s HUD flickered slightly.
[Armor Integrity: 88%]
[Warning: Energy Reflection Detected. Starlight Qi ineffective.]
"Right. This one also only accepts physical attacks," Lin Mo muttered as he dismissed the starlight aura around his spear, relying solely on the augmented strength of the [Decanus Set].
He charged and dodged another volley of prismatic spears before leaping into the air, aiming a heavy, armor-enhanced smash at the Wyrm’s head.
However, just as he swung, the Wyrm shifted its angle.
Its scales acted like a funhouse mirror, which distorted his perception of distance. He swung at where the head appeared to be, but his spear passed through empty air.
Optical Camouflage. An annoying trait.
Then, a tail made of razor-glass lashed out from his blind spot, slamming into his side.
CRUNCH.
[Armor Integrity: 82%]
Lin Mo rolled with the impact, landing in a crouch. He couldn’t hit what he couldn’t see, and he couldn’t blast it with area-of-effect energy because it would just reflect everything.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Xiaoyu was having a worse time.
She had tried to punch the Leviathan, but her fists just splashed harmlessly into its watery body.
When she instinctively infused her [Nine Heavens Storm] qi, the water monster glowed as its size increased from drinking her lightning.
As it lashed out with whip-like tendrils of electrified water, Liu Xiaoyu had no choice but to dodge.
She probably could endure the lightning of her opponent, but what’s the point of it if they’re just going to cancel each other?
However, as she landed on the ground, she noticed the floor was covered in puddles. The electricity conducted through the wet stone, zapped at her feet.
"Psh. You’re tickling me! Why don’t you show me where to hit you?" She hopped around, closing the distance as her lips curved up slyly. "Boss! This thing can’t hurt me. Why don’t you try to take your opponent’s light too?"
"Take its light?" Lin Mo gritted his teeth as he barely ducked under a razor-sharp wing that sliced the air where his head had been a microsecond ago.
"Easy for you to say! This thing is a disco ball of death!"
But her words sparked a thought. The Wyrm reflects his light. Just like how Xiaoyu wasn’t getting hurt by the lightning, won’t he also be able to absorb his opponent’s light?
Furthermore, his [Stellar Domain] wasn’t a direct attack. It was a domain ability that gave him absolute authority within the area. albeit not that invincible when used against an opponent overwhelmingly stronger than him. Still, environmental override should be possible.
"Fine. Let’s try it your way."
With that, he started rerouting the energy flowing into his armor, pouring both Aether Energy and his starlight qi to the Stellar Domain.
He could feel the defense of the armor weakening, but at the same time, his domain ability surged with stronger authority.
Soon, the silver light around him thickened and became a dense, heavy fog of starlight that saturated every inch of his side of the arena.
The Prismatic Reflection Wyrm screeched.
Its mirrored scales, designed to reflect directional attacks, were suddenly overwhelmed by omnidirectional pressure.
The light that it could naturally absorb started coming from everywhere. However, similar to overeating, it couldn’t absorb it all at the same time.
Its scales started cracking and its optical camouflage flickered.
The optical camouflage flickered. Distortions appeared in the air. A tail here, a wing there. And its whole body became exposed.
"Heh. Liu Xiaoyu is indeed a prodigy. Got you," Lin Mo smirked as he lunged upwards. With his armored hands outstretched, he was going to shatter the glass entity before him.
Having sensed his intent, the Wyrm lashed out with its tail, a whip of solid glass moving at the speed of sound.
However, Lin Mo couldn’t be bothered with it anymore. He activated [Qi Solidification].
"Cage!"
Instantly, six walls of translucent, solid starlight slammed into existence around the Wyrm, boxing it in before slowly compressing it.
