Celine raised her gaze slowly to regard Lilian whose eyes held an unmistakable anticipation, she wanted to see her words shatter something within Celine, wanted to see her blue eyes glower with misery.
Somewhere inside, maybe Celine had always known that this part of Lilian had been hidden within. Still she chose to adore and pamper Lilian as a little sister back then.
"You’ve always just wanted to get the better of me, haven’t you?"
A light frown of confusion showed on Lilian’s forehead. Instead of being in pain and tears, Celine was asking her a question.
"What are you talking about?" Lilian wasn’t getting the satisfaction she came for when she decided to share this news with Celine.
"You slept with Ian, just to prove to yourself that you got something I have. Deep inside you want to see me beneath you just to prove to yourself that you’re better than me."
Lilian scoffed, "Celine I’ve always been better than you, even before but you just refused to see it. After becoming an actress you started acting all high and mighty, someone had to clip your wings and make you fall back down to earth because that is what you deserve. Ian got in bed with me because he wanted me, he always had and I noticed how he looked at me. Anyone with eyes can clearly see that I am prettier and much more talented than you are, then why do you only get the spotlight."
Celine shook her head with an ironic smile on her face.
Truly, one should listened to their instincts.
"Back then when we were in highschool, did Jake choose you too? Of course he wanted you more than me didn’t he?"
A look of shock suddenly stiffened Lilian’s features, she didn’t expect Celine to bring up Jake from the past.
Jake was a boy Celine had a crush on back then, later when Celine had summoned the courage to confess to him with Lilian’s help and encouragement, he had coldly rejected her.
Back then, Lilian had no idea that Celine secretly came to know about the game she played in that situation.
Jake was the most popular boy in school, he was loved by everyone, the students and teachers altogether. Many times he would be partnered up with Celine on projects, group activities and situations that made them grow closer. But it just so happened that Lilian had a crush on Jake as well, she had gone behind Celine’s back and made friends with him. That was when she found out that he liked Celine for a long time, even before they started working together as partners but hadn’t gained the courage to make a confession to her.

Jake had been heartbroken and disappointed that the girl he liked actually had such a character, and she had planned to do something like this to him. For days Lilian spent time with him secretly to comfort him and make him see her as a friend who would be there for him while painting Celine as a girl who only looked innocent and pretty outwardly but was internally an arrogant bitch who loved to play with the hearts of guys who liked her.
Jake didn’t want to be a victim of such heartbreak, so he slowly began to withdraw from Celine’s company and blatantly rejected her when she came to him, pouring her heart out nervously.
Not even two days later, Jake and Lilian got together with Lilian crying and apologizing to Celine that Jake had always liked her and she might have been the reason he had rejected Celine. At that time, though she had been disappointed she would never deny her own sister’s happiness, hence she had comforted Lilian and even told her that she was happy for her being with Jake.
Celine had only found out about the real truth one day when she read Lilian’s journal entry where she had vividly described how she had slowly gained Jake’s trust until he chose her instead of Celine.
In Lilian’s same journal, Celine read how much Lilian compared herself to her. She thought that Celine always got all the attention from guys in school even if Lilian was there people would ignore her presence as long as they saw Celine. Hence she went on a mission to prove that she could also be able to get someone who truly liked Celine to like her instead.
Even though Celine had read Lilian’s journal and found out this hidden side of her, she hadn’t made it evident or confronted her about it, instead she wanted to mend her relationship with her sister so it wouldnt fracture.
Celine would step away and give the spotlight on so many occasions to Lilian just to change Lilian’s perspective. She wanted Lilian to gain confidence in herself rather than feel belittled by Celine’s presence.
Familial bonds should never be broken and if it took her giving up things to maintain that bond, Celine was ready to do it.
When they were set to act in a high school play that would show to a very important set of guest audiences that were scouting young talents, they had auditioned in front of a panel of teachers taking the roles of judges, Celine had auditioned for a minor character but she was picked as the lead instead.
Knowing that Lilian was fervently wishing to play the main character in that part, Celine pretended to have diarrhea and ran off the set leaving the other play actors to vote Lilian into the lead role.
She had tried her best and slowly, over time begun to believe that her sisterhood with Lilian was finally saved. Time had passed and she no longer associated Lilian with the childish past version of herself who took a boy’s affection from her by sabotaging her character until she walked into Ian’s room to find Lilian in his bed.
That was when she realized that the past hadn’t just been a childish whim on Lilian’s part, it was her true self kept hidden away behind her kind and sweet exterior.
Thinking back to all that now, Celine realized she should have seen it coming sooner.
"Jake fell in love with me and not you Celine, get over it, it happened since high school." Lilian said rolling her eyes. "In any case I only came out here to share this good news with you. Our family doesn’t need you anymore so if you didn’t walk away, we would have still kicked you out."
Nothing Lilian could say right now would be able to faze Celine, so she was very frustrated that Celine still looked calm. That caused a sharp displeasure to emanate from Lilian.
Celine no longer had anything to say to Lilian. At the end of the day she could see through Lilian’s need to surpass her as nothing but a way to satisfy her inferiority.
"Accept it Lilian, no matter how much you try to take my place, you will never be me."
Those words hit Lilian harder than she would have wanted it to. Her fingers gripped the edge of Celine’s car window as if it were something she wanted to break. She glared at Celine with a furious hatred, a hatred that shone because what she had kept inside was bared to Celine’s eyes in this very moment.
"You arrogant bitch! You’re the one on the floor losing everything and I’m the one rising to fame, and I swear to you, I’ll surpass every single thing you’ve ever achieved in this industry, when I do I’ll make sure no one even remembers your name."
There was a flash of pain in Celine’s eyes for a single moment. Her pregnancy was a hidden secret and it would be the sole reason she would have to pause her career for now, so as much as she would like to accept Lilian’s challenge, she couldn’t.
"We’ll see." Celine left Lilian with these words, her car zoomed to life once more, frightening Lilian into jumping backwards because if she didn’t, Celine would drive right over her without a care.
Once she watched the fast flash of Celine’s silver Bentley disappear out the gates of the Roberts family home, Lilian allowed her full fury to show on her face.
Lilian had thought that Ian was Celine’s biggest weakness, so she had aimed for him, succeeded in getting him but it still didn’t fully bring Celine down.
Yesterday, after she had officially signed her contract with Lightstar, one of the roles she had been promised was suddenly withdrawn.
It was later reported that the director vehemently insisted on one star and one star alone for the role otherwise he would withdraw from the film, and the star he wanted had been dropped by Lightstar Entertainment... Celine.
Yesterday she had witnessed Peter Hansley being torn on the decision of taking Celine back or not...
