Chapter 199: Chapter 199: Encounter

"..." Li Wen had nothing to say. This place was indeed strange; it was the right way to find a way out.

...

As night fell, the sky turned crimson with fiery clouds, and the entire forest, the mountainside village, was enveloped in this blood-red hue.

Having spent a whole day here, Song Yi hadn’t found anything peculiar about the people in this place; rarely did anyone come out.

Each had their own separate courtyard, with abundant food supplies inside. However, Song Yi and Li Wen had not eaten any, unsure whether they were clean and what might happen if they consumed them; it was unclear to everyone. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

What were those people doing inside their courtyards? Song Yi and Li Wen had no way of knowing.

Li Wen also found it incredibly odd.

During the day, they both tried to leave, but there was truly no way out.

The only hope was that nothing would happen tonight.

"Make sure you lock the door." Li Wen instructed Song Yi.

Thinking over and over again, he had already reached the door but still couldn’t feel at ease, turned back to look at Song Yi, frowned, and said, "Otherwise, I’ll stay here tonight to keep watch. You just sleep; I have a feeling this place is extremely eerie."

Song Yi, sitting by the bedside, slightly licked her lips and slowly spoke, "Alright."

"I’ll stay outside this room; you sleep inside. If anything happens, call me."

"Hmm."

The courtyards here seemed to be arranged in order; each had a code and number.

...

As the night deepened, Song Yi occasionally heard women screaming, men roaring; these sounds echoed endlessly in the quiet night, in the strange village.

Making everyone uneasy, panic-stricken.

Song Yi listened to these sounds, frowned, tightened the blanket around herself, and shrank inside it, covering her ears to block it out.

Li Wen must have heard them too.

She didn’t call Li Wen.

Minute by minute passed; Song Yi couldn’t fall asleep at all.

Suddenly, she opened her eyes, staring out the window. Under the chilly moonlight, a shadow seemed to pass.

The window, once shut tight, now rattled in the wind, yet outside, it was empty.

Song Yi propped herself up, the blanket slipping down to her waist.

"Li Wen..." she called out.

No one responded from outside; the exterior was still vacant.

Tang Si flipped in from the window, checking along the way, squatting by Song Yi’s bedside, hiding.

When he heard Song Yi’s trembling and light call, he froze.

"Song Yi." He murmured softly.

This familiar voice rang in Song Yi’s ear.

"Tang Si." Song Yi’s heart tightened, immediately tossing aside the blanket to get out of bed.

In her rush, the room was dimly lit except for some moonlight.

Just as she hurriedly got off the bed, Tang Si stood up directly.

Song Yi’s foot stepped right on his head, causing her to trip, her center of gravity shifting forward.

Even with Tang Si’s quick reflexes, he couldn’t catch Song Yi.

Frantically trying to find a support point, Song Yi’s hand landed on a nearby shelf.

Gripping tightly slowed her fall, but the shelf shook under the force, threatening to topple, as Tang Si slipped past from the floor.

"Hmm—" In the night, a muffled groan.
