Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress-Chapter 348: Respective Schemes
The movements of everyone on the battlefield paused.
They stared at the Hall Master who had betrayed her companion in astonishment, not quite understanding why she had done so.
Even the Clan Heads besieging her seemed oblivious to her purpose.
"Karla! How dare you attack another Hall Master?! Have you betrayed the Divine Dynasty?!"
The last male Hall Master was also stunned.
He immediately opened some distance between himself and the female Hall Master, fury and fear engraved on his face.
He was angered by Karla’s sudden betrayal, but above all, he was terrified.
The Hall Master, who had been devoured, was not much weaker than him.
If that was the case, didn’t this mean that there was a chance that he would have been the unfortunate?
For all intents and purposes, he had survived merely by chance!
"Karla! You were able to become a Demon Sovereign only because of the Demon God’s help! How dare you betray him?"
The Hall Master voiced the question that everyone in the battlefield had.
They recognized Karla, one of the nine Hall Masters of the ancient Divine Dynasty.
As a Hall Master, her devotion to the Divine Dynasty was a given; otherwise, the Demon God wouldn’t have appointed her to such a position.
Most of all, he wouldn’t have saved her during the ancient war and helped her reach her current realm.
To their dismay, Karla didn’t answer the question.
She merely shook her head before chuckling eerily.
"I didn’t expect that I would have to show this trump card this soon."
"Sure enough, you can’t account for variables. Even if you plot against them, they are bound to bite back."
"It took me thousands of years to form my plans, but they were all shattered not long after she arrived.", Karla spoke mysteriously as she took a step back and approached the Demon God’s battlefield.
Her aura surged as she grew closer, but this was hardly important.
Rather, what shocked everyone on the battlefield was that her aura was resonating with someone.
It was Mayven.
The two Demon Sovereigns’ auras entangled in the air, and under everyone’s stunned gaze, they began to merge.
The gaze of the Demon God grew sharp. With his strength and insight, he noticed some clues.
"What a Mayven! What a Karla!"
"It seems that I underestimated the Divine Clans! You’re not as useless as I thought.", he muttered.
"One person, two bodies, two Divine Weapons!"
Though he didn’t explain any further, some people guessed his meaning.
Among them, Liora did not even need his reminder.
The moment the female Hall Master betrayed her companion, she had already seen some clues.
By the time her aura surged, she had already predicted what would happen next.
Sure enough, the two people did not disappoint her.
As their auras integrated, the two began to transform.
Karla’s body turned into wisps of light and washed over Mayven’s, not only healing the injuries he had sustained but also strengthening him further.
At the same time, her Demon Weapon, a lizard-like creature, also merged with the curved blade.
The black color of the blade grew even deeper, while countless serpent eyes emerged and covered its entire surface.
The transformation did not last for long. Only a split second later, Karla was nowhere to be seen, and only Mayven remained standing.
His aura had grown stronger than ever before, as if he had broken through a certain shackle and reached a new realm.
A colossal beast emerged behind his back. It was a serpent covered in black scales, which was currently doing a circle around itself and biting at its own tail.
The outline of a person could be seen inside its stomach, as its owner struggled to break free.
Unfortunately, the Hall Master’s struggle was meaningless.
Their efforts grew weaker and weaker until finally, they came to a complete stop.
The moment it did, the sky suddenly cracked.
Bloody rain fell down and spread throughout the entire continent.
The phenomenon looked eerily similar to what had happened inside the Demon God’s Cemetery, except that it was now many times more shocking and earth-shattering.
Everyone understood what such a phenomenon meant.
A Demon Sovereign had died!
The person did not die at the hands of the Demon God or besieged by several Demon Sovereigns, as one would expect, but under the sneak attack of his own companion!
The death of the Hall Master might have surprised everyone in the past, but everyone paid little attention.
At the moment, their entire attention was on Mayven, wariness and fear in their eyes.
Mayven faced their gazes and understood their thoughts.
His eyes wandered through the battlefield, pausing at Liora for a brief moment, before he spoke up:
"Everyone! Let’s all work together!"
"The Demon God and that unknown woman are still our biggest enemies at present!"
"Haven’t you noticed? So far, the Demon God has yet to summon his Divine Weapon!"
"When he does, no one will be able to stop him."
"I’m afraid that he has already taken half a step towards that realm. Perhaps his title is not a coincidence. He can already be considered a pseudo-Demon God."
Mayven’s words jolted everyone awake. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Seeing his strength surge and learning of his sinister plans, the other Clan Heads had originally become wary of him, labeling him as a threat equal to the Demon God.
It was only after hearing his words that they realized.
Indeed! Since the battle started, the Demon God had only fought using his physical body.
He had yet to summon his Demon Weapon!
What did this mean?
Various clues were pieced together, and the Clan Heads arrived at a certain conclusion:
Perhaps his Demon Weapon was currently advancing!
"Was the ancient war a scheme for you to lay low? To get time for your Divine Weapon to complete its transformation?"
"No wonder! No wonder you claimed that now was not the right time! No wonder you didn’t want to fight against us!"
"What a Demon God! What a Demon God!", a Clan Head muttered, seemingly astonished by the Demon God’s careful planning.
The situation had reversed several times in such a short time.
From Liora’s sudden appearance, to Mayven’s outburst, and to Demon God’s plans being "unveiled".
The other Clan Heads were terrified. They never knew that the situation of this world was so complicated!
Though scared, everyone made a quick decision.
Mayven was right. The Demon God was the biggest threat at the moment.
Thus, after exchanging a quick glance, only a single person was left to deal with the lone Hall Master, while the other Demon Sovereigns entangling them went to help the rest of them.
Instantly, the great situation that the Demon God had created was ruined.
Besieged by five Demon Sovereigns, one of whom was not much weaker than him, he instantly found himself at a disadvantage.
The massive serpent behind Mayven opened its mouth and spat out a black mist, devouring everything in its way, including the surrounding Divine Aura.
Feeling his power gradually get weaker and his injuries becoming increasingly severe, the Demon God frowned.
After taking a deeper look at Liora and seeing her stare back at him, he contemplated for a little bit before making a decision.
The next moment, the golden light inside his body flickered.
In a faraway place, a sword covered in chains trembled violently within a silent, dark void.
It was unable to break free of its shackles at first.
But seemingly having received a large amount of power, a thunderous clang rang, and the chains shattered.
The sword shook, causing the space to fluctuate as a large hole opened in front of it.
Then, sensing the call of its master, the Demon Weapon drilled into the hole and vanished.
With its disappearance, no signs of life remained in the dark void.
After thousands of years, the seal imprisoning the sword was finally broken.
