The face was undeniably human, a grey jagged face, constructed with vines. Quin’s appendages had all been locked up by the vines. The thing coiled around his body and inflicted pains of the twisted flesh upon him. Its thorn sank into his body causing him to gritted his teeth.

"How noble of you, sacrificing yourself for the greater good"

"Shut up, you didn’t mean any of that"

"True but, you’d rather hear my word right"

The vines crackle and form into something that resembles a smile. It sent shivers down Quin’s spine. It’s a mix of disgust and bewilderment, the mother looked human but not human at the same time. It’s just a poor recreation of it.

"Do you think that your little group of knights would be able to survive?"

"At least I could buy them some time, you wretch demon."

"HAhahaah," The vine crackle "You humans really love to do something even if it’s futile. Great, I’ll show you a dispairing sight then, sun priest"

"....."

Quin knitted his brows, but he didn’t say anything. The demon wanted a reaction from him so he didn’t want to give it. The mother looked at Quin curiously and tightened the vines on his arm.

The thorn dug in deeper and the mystic power seeped inside his skin. His skin twisted in pain. However, the knight still held onto his sanity. His hand exerted more and more power trying to break free. However his efforts were not rewarded, all it did was tighten the vine’s grip on his body.

"I finally caught up, let bring you over."

The vines move and bring Quin, over. Its speed is far better than any horse could travel. It snakes through the now like a fish swimming in water. The trees pass by, then they finally arrive at the knight and civilian’s party.

The grey vines surround the group in all directions creating a mini wall around the whole group. The knight at the forefront had already fought with the vines but they lacked mystic power. Both Max and the other priest were powerless, they could only hold out for a bit with mystic fire since Max was not a combat priest.

"Momy!!!" The girl screamed out in pain but her mother was in no condition to help.

"AGHHHH"

The vine had already reached the people, they started twisting their skin and leaving lasting pain over their bodies.

"You demon...."

Quin grinded his teeth, watching the last of the knights fighting the vine off with a mystic fire torch, however, their lives were in the hands of the demon now.

"Sir...Quin"

Upon noticing the priest, the knights felt a sense of despair, the guy who had been protecting them all this time was powerless against the opposition. How could they fair against such an opponent?

Quin also saw the knight that the vines let go earlier, now they were all captured. Not a single person was able to escape the vines. Quin’s eyes also met the fire priest.

I’m glad the apostle wasn’t here

He felt skeptical about the apostle’s choice to hold the flesh tree back but, turned out that was the best decision ever. Now they just needed to pray whether Reeva was able to get away from the monster’s grasp or not.

"Looks like your apostle is better than you..."

The vine crackles again. Quin couldn’t help but smile, he knew that the apostle had the power to eliminate that threat.

"No matter, I’ll just convert you then"

The vine crackled again, this time it turned Quin over to face the female vines. Another grey tendril reached up and formed a complex shape. Then she cut it from her body, and the new creation then came to life.

"I call this the brain eater, such a cute guy right?" The vine crackled again, it very much enjoyed the look of terror when every human saw the critter. "You have seen it before, when I put this inside your body, it will take control of the brain, then feed off it eventually replacing your brain with itself. It’s my masterpiece. Create from countless trial and error"

"Disgusting"

Quin blurted out, he felt sick even just seeing the thing wiggle around in the vine hold.

"You don’t agree? It’s an acquired taste, You will like it in time... Well...You have no choice but to like it."

The vines didn’t shift to make any face but, Quin could feel the joy behind those words. Her vine that was holding the bran eater got closer to Quinface.

"Open wide~"

Playfully, the vine served the brain eater like it was a dating couple enjoying meals. Quin looked at the thing in disgust. His eyes dart over, looking at his possible escape.

"NOW!"

The fire priest shouted. Quin didn’t waste any time and surged his power. He activated his power all at once, quickly depleting the faith that he had in reserve. In exchange, the crescent sword that he summoned now burned bright like a second sun. It eradicated all the vines that were close to him, freeing him from its grasp.

The fire priest also exhausted all of his mystic power, in his hand a torch burned brighter than ever and just by being near, the vine turned from grey to black. It brittle and wither away.

"AGHHHHHHH"

Quin let out a loud cry, it’s a combination of determination and the pain that he got on his body. With a burning blade, he charged at the female vines, hoping he caught her off guard. And it seemed like he hit a jackpot.

Every demon had a vessel and hers felt like it would be here. It’s the best shot they had.

The fire priest at the side also agrees with him. The priests shot close to the female vines from two different directions.

Quin who was the closest to the female vines used all his might to slash it. The blade ran through the vines, however, the female vine wasn’t such an easy opponent, being a demon herself, she could sense the change in mystic power. Especially when she got the thorn inside his body earlier.

Now they all burned to a crisp just from being near him. The blade narrowly missed the female vines as he pushed herself backward. The vines burned off cutting some of her connection with the other vines.

To the side, the priest with the fire torch arrived. His torch held low and thrust it onto the newly escaped female vines. The vines didn’t have any room to escape anymore, they looked at each other and the female vines controlled her vines to stop the torch priest.

A bundle of vines reached out to him, but the torch was too bright the fire burned fierce as it made the vine disappear. However, the remnant of vines scattered in the wind so happened to be enough of a smoke screen delaying him by a bit.

The torch priest quickly broke through, his torch still extending to the female vines but it already had enough distance, so his fire didn’t reach her. The dancing pale yellow fire now reduces a bit. When the mystic crashed into each other, from within her vines and the fire they both canceled each other out but, the priest was on the losing end because he had way less mystic power than the vines.

Quin appeared behind the female vine using the torch priest as a distraction. His grip on the crescent sword was tighter than usual, fighting off both the twisted pain inflicted on his arm and the rage boiling inside him.

Thc!

The blade along with the fire aura slashes through the female vines revealing a green shining gemstone nestle among the vines. However, it was quickly covered up by more vines. Quin pushed his advantage more his blade shading nonstop trying to reach the green orb.

However, every time the vines moved it to evade his slash, his flame’s burning power just shy of reaching the core. The torch priest also joined in, a double attack between them ensure. The fire burned brighter than ever as both the front and the back were under assault by the torch priest and Quin.

One clean him and they’d be the winner but it’s so far away and it’s getting harder and harder to do. Meanwhile, the demon only had to wait them out, their mystic power would run out if they continued down this path.

Soon however the vines find themselves in a difficult spot, both of the priests are relentless in their pursuit and they get closer and closer every time even if their mystics are running out.’

The area in which they burned got lower and lower but the places they reached inside the vines were much deeper. The green gem that had been nestled inside the vine was slowly revealing itself.

"AGHHHHHH"

Quin yelled another time as the vines got cornered. His recent slash almost reached it. But he knew that this time it would be all in ruin once again. The vine had already covered itself up.

The torch priest also saw that they were running out of time and mystic. After doing the deal vines had an opening. however, the torch priest was the only one who could capitalize on it.

Since he couldn’t kill it outright, he had a better idea. The fire aura was already small enough to not cover his whole body so with his bare hand he was able to grab the vines that were connected to the female vine.

"What!"

The voice crackled, It couldn’t move

"Die!"
