He continued to sense the vines and realized their scale was immense. What had been chasing him earlier was child’s play compared to the massive network he could feel through the green gem. The underground vines were as large as a mansion, making him doubt the accuracy of the gem’s signals.

Yet, something puzzled him—the vines couldn’t seem to detect him down here, even though he could sense them clearly through the gem. How could they miss him?

After a moment of thought, he realized the gem allowed him to feel vibrations and track the vines’ movements. Alongside the vines, he also sensed faint footsteps, which he guessed belonged to the fleeing villagers. They were about 20 people up there walking unevenly or even running from the vines.

Then, a memory flashed in his mind. At the start of the battle, he had entrusted the girl to a nearby villager. That meant she was still up there, among the fleeing crowd. The demon felt a pang in his heart. Her bright smile had lifted his spirits, and the thought of never seeing it again filled him with a deep sadness.

Reeva’s hand trembled as he clawed his way upward, unable to stop the shakiness. The demon was a part of Reeva, a part of his belief that seeped into reality. That means that even if it pretended it was rational, it wasn’t. He felt the vibration underground as he dug upward. He also felt that the vine had noticed him.

Reeva didn’t care; his hand dug out a massive hole, preparing to emerge on the surface. However, he was stopped by vines. It dug at them from behind, grabbing his legs. Reeva fought back, kicking the vines in an attempt to escape, but his foot space was limited. The vines had been shaken somewhat, and the one that had snapped was replaced with a fresh one. The grey vine traveled to him more and more.

Reeva felt his heart arch as the vibrations from above got increasingly rare. He could feel the vines creeping across the snow field; he couldn’t read much beyond that, but he got increasingly desperate.

Fear was the emotion on his face. However, it was not from losing his life but from the fact that he would lose a smile... A smile from someone dear to him. He crawled harder, making the hole bigger and bigger. The vines tightened, refusing to let him go.

"AGGGGGGHHHH"

Reeva shouted and his golden eyes felt more moist than usual. He thought he had done something wrong. He pushed harder and harder to get out of the hole as the vibrations faded one by one.

Finally, after fighting with the vines underground, he got out of the hole. He dug upward and the snow poured on him, going past that he finally back outside. What he saw made his body drop to the ground.

There’s no one here at all, only other vines snaking around the place. The snow, the trees, and the ground were all covered in vines. There’s nothing left for Reeva, no one was left for him.

I could have helped...

However he knew that nothing would be changed, the mother was too powerful, and he needed to be more powerful,.. more happy...

The crackle behind shook him awake from his thought. Reeva turned around and saw that the bundle of vines was coming right at him. However instead of using vibration to find him, they now directly use eyes to look for him. Countless of them stare at Reeva, but this time instead of taking it all in. He didge the mystic power.

From what he could tell, they needed to focus on something to be able to twist them. So he guessed that for the object to be twisted it needed a mystic power. He let his yellow fog seep out of his body. and the moment that the yellow fog changed shape, that was the moment he knew the mystic would come.

Even though he couldn’t see the other mystic power, the force still needed to interact with things outside and when it came into contact with other mystic powers, it clashed. Unlike mystic power inside the body, the raw mystic outside was far more fragile than the one used to cast power.

If the sun priest released a power raw, it would feel a little warm and the mystic would dissipate, however, if the sun priest used it to cast healing then the mystic would be much stronger. The same applied here, since what Reeva released was a raw mystic power and the vine eyes stare was its ability. The mystic from its eyes would then be much stronger.

However Reeva could exploit that fact to his advantage, the mystic power which was much stronger would easily cut through his weaker mystic. Making it very clear which angle they would come from. Now, he didn’t need to convert every power that came his way but enough to maintain this mystic fog to help him dodge the rest.

He wouldn’t want to be stuck like the last time he used his power. With the yellow fog all around him, Reeva could see clearly where the mystic was coming from. He dodged out of the way and moved to a different location. His goal now was to escape this place. There’s nothing left to protect and nothing left for him anymore.

As he ran, something felt weird, the vines that should have been causing him weren’t as keen to follow him as the other times. Moreover, the mother wouldn’t be so quiet when he got Reeva surrounded.

Reeva turned his head after running for a while and saw that, there was no vine following him at all. Only, snow and the white forest were left. He felt bizarre, They all vanished like they didn’t exist, Like Reeva just woke up from a nightmare.

However, what’s more bizarre was the pale yellow light shining across the forest. It felt rather warm and fuzzy when he looked at it.
