Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband-Chapter 280: Think
Chapter 280: Think
"What do you think you’re doing, Kimberlee? Have you lost your mind?" Charles Hawk’s voice was sharp, his frustration evident as he paced the length of the room where he had been brought after the kidnapping.
"Kidnapping us and dragging us here—what could possibly be going through that head of yours?" he demanded, his voice rising with every word as he glared at Kimberlee.
Kimberlee, standing firm with her arms crossed, met his anger with a calm yet chilling response. "What I’m thinking, Charles, is that if we weren’t brought here, we might already be dead."
Charles stopped mid-stride and stared at her in disbelief. "Dead? That’s absurd. You’re being overly dramatic. Aiden would never go that far. Sure, he’d make our lives hell for a while, but he wouldn’t kill us. You’re exaggerating. I’ve already tested his limits in the past. He would be too worried about my mother to truly harm us. He’s not a killer."
Kimberlee’s lips thinned, her patience clearly wearing thin with this man. No wonder Aiden did not like his father. The man was her ally and even now grated on her nerves. He thought he made clever plans but they always turned out to be useless. "It’s not Aiden you need to worry about," she said quietly, finally, her voice dropping to an ominous tone. "The danger isn’t coming from him. It’s someone else entirely."
Charles frowned, confusion clouding his features as his mind raced to piece together her cryptic warning. "Someone else?" he asked, his tone disbelieving. "Who could possibly have a reason to avenge Serena besides Aiden?"
Before Kimberlee could answer, a new voice spoke up. "Dale Brown."
Charles spun around and stared at his ex-wife, Williama Brown," What are you doing here? And who is Dale Brown."
The woman gave him a chilling smile," Someone who will not hesitate to kill you in the blink of an eye."
Charles scoffed, waving a dismissive hand at Williama. "Dale Brown? Never heard of him. And honestly, I think you’re all blowing this out of proportion. Aiden’s little vendettas are one thing, but some random guy? Come on. Do you really expect me to take this seriously?"
Williama’s smile tightened, her eyes narrowing as she stepped further into the room. "You should take it seriously, Charles. Because this ’random guy’ isn’t just anyone. A few days ago, Aiden came to me, asking for information about Dale Brown. He didn’t say why, but knowing Aiden, I could tell it wasn’t a casual inquiry. So, I started digging."
Charles raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms. "And? What did you find? Some ghost story to scare us all into submission?"
Kimberlee sighed audibly, clearly exasperated by his arrogance, but Williama ignored him and continued. "At first, I thought Aiden was being paranoid, just chasing shadows. Maybe he had doubts about us and wanted to sort Dale’s help. But the more I looked, the more I realized that Aiden wasn’t the only one trying to uncover the truth about Serena’s accident. Someone else was sniffing around, asking questions, pulling strings—and they are a lot more subtle than Aiden and more powerful."
"What kind of questions? And how does this tie back to Serena?"
Williama’s expression darkened. "It ties back to Serena because Dale Brown has every reason to want revenge. He is her biological brother."
Charles froze, his face paling at Williama’s revelation. "Her biological brother?" he echoed, his voice laced with disbelief. "Are you telling me Serena has some secret family we didn’t know about? And this... Dale is part of it?"
Williama nodded, her expression grim. "Dale Brown isn’t just anyone. He’s one of the most formidable members of the Brown family. But the truth is, he wasn’t born into their wealth and power. He was adopted at a young age, and until recently, no one seems to know that he was in any way connected to this Serena.
Charles shook his head, still trying to process everything. "This makes no sense. If he’s so powerful, why hasn’t he shown up until now? Why haven’t Serena or Aiden ever mentioned him? Even for the wedding, my mother had to give her away."
"Because Serena didn’t know about him," Kimberlee interjected, her tone clipped. "At least, not until recently. From what I’ve pieced together, Dale has been watching her from the shadows. He only stepped into the spotlight now because of what happened to her when she returned to her family after her grandmother’s death.
"Have you heard about that recent dual murder case? The one that shook Vancity? Mathew Dawn and Governor Corrick?" Williama asked.
Charles frowned, nodding hesitantly. "Of course I’ve heard about it. It had been all over the news. They were both shot at the same time in two different places. What does that have to do with this?"
"Everything," Williama said sharply. "There are rumors swirling in certain circles—that Dale Brown is the one behind those murders."
Charles’s eyes widened, and Kimberlee’s lips pressed into a tight line as she shivered. She knew this cousin since she was a child. He’d been scary even then.
"Mathew Dawn and Governor Harris weren’t just random targets," Williama continued. "They were obstacles. Both men were making life difficult for his biological sister, Serena Dawn."
Charles’s jaw dropped, and he staggered back, leaning against the wall for support. "You’re telling me... Dale Brown killed them to protect Serena? That he’s capable of that?"
Williama nodded. "Yes. And if he’s willing to go that far for her, imagine what he’d do to the people who actually killed her." Her eyes flicked pointedly to Charles and Kimberlee.
Kimberlee crossed her arms, her face unreadable, but her voice was firm. "This is why I had us brought here. Dale isn’t just some thug you can bribe or negotiate with, Charles. He’s a shadow. A ghost. If he’s coming after us, we wouldn’t even see him until it’s too late."
"So what do we do? Hide? Run? Do we even stand a chance against someone like him?"
Williama’s gaze hardened. "The only chance you have is to stay ahead of him. And for that, you’ll need Aiden. Convince your daughter to make a statement that Aiden killed Serena. I’ve already tried to muddy the waters about this and let things slip. If Dale thinks Aiden is the one behind this, then he will go after him. But make no mistake, Charles—if Dale decides you’re a threat to Serena, there’s nothing anyone else can do to stop him from hurting you."
