Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband-Chapter 298: Someone To See You
Chapter 298: Someone To See You
"Do you think he’s found someone yet?"
"I highly doubt it. If he had, the thunderclouds permanently hovering over that man’s head would’ve cleared up by now. Heck, we would not be sitting on pins and needles here, waiting for our marching orders."
"Why can’t they just assign one of the agents to pretend to be an heiress? I mean, anyone can play rich if you dress them right and give them unlimited money. That would also help them get away from having to involve a civilian in these matters."
"Are you insane? This isn’t a costume party. They don’t just need someone rich. They need a spoiled, pampered brat. Someone born into it—someone who reeks of old money and inherited attitude. You can fake a name and background on paper, sure. But the ultra-wealthy? They’re like a closed-off club. Small circle. Generational. You can’t just walk in and fool them. They’d smell a fraud from a mile away."
"But then again, which of the ultra-rich even have clean hands these days? Isn’t there anyone willing to let a family member get tangled in this kind of mess?"
"Maybe. But it’s tricky. Doesn’t Mr Brown have any dirt on someone? Some leverage to get them to cooperate?"
"I’m sure he does. Knowing him, he probably has entire filing cabinets full of leverage. But blackmail? That’s a high-risk game. One wrong move, and it all blows up in your face. The fallout could be massive."
As the two secretaries continued whispering back and forth in hushed, urgent tones, their conversation was suddenly cut off by the sharp ring of the phone on their desk. They almost shook at the sudden sound and the first woman snatched up the receiver, more out of instinct than composure, but the moment she heard the receptionist’s voice on the other end, her face froze—and then her jaw practically hit the floor.
She blinked, stunned, then quickly covered the mouthpiece with one hand and tugged at her colleague’s arm. Her voice was a low hiss, barely controlled. "There’s a woman downstairs asking to see Dr Dale Brown. No appointment. Just walked in and said he’d want to see her once he heard her name."
The second woman shot to her feet so fast her chair scraped back with a screech. Her eyes widened, mirroring her colleague’s panic as they both turned toward the closed glass door of their boss’s cabin.
They stared for a beat, unsure what to think. No one would imagine a scenario like that. But in most novels, at this point it was probably some woman that the man had a one night stand with or maybe his wife or something
Could it be... a girlfriend? Did the infamous Dale Brown actually have one? That was the only logical explanation. Who else would dare to waltz into his domain without an appointment, without fear?
But the thought that followed chilled them both. What if this wasn’t a girlfriend? What if she was just some unhinged lunatic who thought she could push her way in? After all, only a lunatic would have such guts. Even Mr Brown’s girlfriend would be more prudent that that.
Because if she was lying—if she was nobody—then the woman was about to walk into a storm. And worse? Their boss wouldn’t just shred her. He’d shred them too, for letting her through the door.
The second one took the phone hurriedly and said," Do you want us to disturb Mr Brown? Are you sure you want that risk?"
The other person seemed to freeze for a moment but then she said in a hushed whisper," The woman is dressed in a hospital gown. I don’t know what to think or say to her. She looks too frail. What if she is some informer and dies here?"
That caused the imaginations of the three women to sore even more wildly until suddenly the two saw movement from the inside. Dr Brown was staring at something on the screen with narrowed eyes. And his expression did not look good. In the next minute, the other phone on their table rang and both women stared at the phone and one answered it hurriedly," Yes Sir?"
"There is a Miss Ella Hawk, standing at the reception. One of you go and bring her to me and the other, get some clothes for her. Her size is..."
Before she could note down the ’sizes’ or get over the shock of her instruction, her colleage had already stood up," I’ll go get Miss Hawk. You take care of the clothing. You are more stylish."
The woman nodded dumbly and immediately made a move, regretting not having come to her senses earlier. That was she could have met this- Miss Hawk who had dared to come here without an appointment and then been invited into the wolf’s lair.
Ella quietly walked behind the secretary who had come to escort her, her hands clenched to her sides. She had finally come to a decision. She could not wait all her life for Aiden to forgive her. And she could not trust herself to not start resenting Serena again. So, it would be best to move on and instead do something that would make her a better person.
She knew that whatever this was, was probably a dangerous mission, but she was okay with it. She wanted it. Even an honourable death would be better than the guilt she was living with today.
Still lost in thought, she mindlessly followed the secretary and then she nearly toppled over when her heel caught in the narrow gap between the elevator and the floor. A soft gasp escaped her lips as her body pitched forward, arms flailing slightly—
But she never hit the ground.
A strong arm had wrapped around her waist, catching her with swift precision. For a moment, she was suspended there—half-falling, half-held—her heart thundering in her chest. When she looked up—
Dale Brown was standing right there, his face unreadable, those sharp, calculating eyes locked onto hers.
The secretary who had been startled by her boss’ sudden movement and turned around, almost fainted at the sight of the Dr Devil Brown holding a woman in his arms so tenderly.
