Chapter 205: SUDDEN TENSION

AT this moment, Seojun felt a deep wave of regret. He regretted not being firm and clear enough to tell Yujin that whatever feelings the other had for him would never be returned. He thought that maybe if he had done that, Yujin wouldn’t have harassed Haneul like this. He had believed that after the whole mess in the dining hall, Yujin would have learned his lesson and left Haneul alone. Who would have thought that he would do something even worse?

To use his pheromones like this to prove such a nonsensical point, he couldn’t believe Yujin could be this immature. Maybe he had been giving the other guy too much benefit of the doubt, just like he always seemed to do for any Omegas. This right here was the obvious result of his own ingrained belief that all Omegas should be protected and cared for.

If he hadn’t been so accommodating and gentle with Yujin from the start, the other might not have gotten the wrong idea. Then Yujin might not have felt bold enough to attack Haneul like this. So, in a way, everything that’s happening right now was his own fault. That meant it’s only right that he be the one to put a stop to it.

It’s not just that. The moment he smelled Yujin’s pheromones, it hit him with an immediate, sickening wave that locked his body in place. He couldn’t move. By the time he fought through the nausea and regain control, Jung Taeyang had already stepped in and was supporting Haneul. That’s something he should have done himself. Then Robin had appeared and scolded Yujin. Again, that’s something he should have done. But now that the sick feeling was finally bearable, he didn’t hesitation to take action.

After telling Yujin to stop, he moved to stand directly between him and Haneul. He looked at Yujin with a serious expression. "Just stop embarrassing yourself, please."

Yujin stared at Seojun in complete shock. This was the first time the other had ever shouted at him. And for what? Did he even have to wonder? It was obviously for Kang Haneul. That realization made his anger burn even hotter and stronger inside him.

"Didn’t you hear what I just said? He’s a recessive--"

"I don’t care!" Seojun’s voice rose again, cutting him off completely. "Acting like you’re better than someone just because of your designation is never okay. Looking down on people for something they have no control over is pathetic. It doesn’t make you look strong. It just shows everyone how small you really are inside."

Tears gathered in Yujin’s eyes, making them shine with a watery look. Seeing that, Seojun felt a sudden urge to say he was sorry. His chest tightened with a familiar guilt. But he forced that feeling down. He reminded himself that he’s doing the right thing. He made himself stand firm and not look away.

Haneul was surprised to see this. He knew how Seojun was usually very gentle and kind to all the Omegas in the program. That kindness could sometimes feel a bit much, because there was a real chance the Omega might start to like him that way. After all, Seojun was a very handsome Alpha. Combine that with his nice personality and falling for him would be way too easy. Wasn’t that exactly what happened to Choi Yujin?

And this whole awful mess, was the obvious result of that. It’s what happened when Seojun didn’t set a clear enough boundary from the start.

Again, he’s not blaming Seojun. It’s probably just the result of his own upbringing. But the fact that he was scolding Choi Yujin right now showed he was trying to change his own mindset about Omegas. It’s good to be a gentleman, but anything taken too far could become a problem. That’s why it’s good to see Seojun taking this step. At least, it showed that he’s willing to welcome change.

Haneul looked at Choi Yujin. He expected the other to keep arguing his point, but when he saw his expression, his own eyes widened a little. Choi Yujin looked like he was about to burst into tears at any second. For a moment, Haneul felt a real pang of pity for him. This whole mess probably happened because of all the emotions piling up on Choi Yujin today. The pain of being eliminated, the mistaken belief that Seojun didn’t care about him at all, all of it must have been too much to handle.

Then two staff members finally made their way over to where they were. Seriously, they should have been here a long time ago. He didn’t know if they had just been watching until everything was over or if they simply didn’t care. Either way, they stepped in and escorted Choi Yujin out of the performance hall. Choi Yujin just followed them, moving almost like a robot.

Haneul let out a long sigh as he watched Choi Yujin’s retreating back. He hoped this would become a good lesson for him. Choi Yujin was still young. It was not too late for him to learn from his mistakes and try to be a better person in the future.

A low, gossipy murmur spread through the contestants as they watched. They leaned in close to each other, whispering behind their hands. Some of them were even snickering, their shoulders shaking with quiet laughter as they stared at Choi Yujin being led away. Haneul could only shake his head at that.

Seojun then turned around to look at him. His expression was full of guilt. "I’m really sorry, Haneul-ah. This was all my fault."

Before Haneul could open his mouth to say that it wasn’t Seojun’s fault, Taeyang had already beaten him to it.

"It’s good you have that self-awareness," Taeyang said in a flat tone.

Seojun turned to face Taeyang. For the first time, Haneul saw Seojun’s expression turn dark. The other even glared at Taeyang.

"I believe I was not talking to you," Seojun said coldly.

Taeyang only scoffed at Seojun’s words.

Haneul glanced back and forth between the two of them. Suddenly, he could feel the sharp tension hanging in the air.
