Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Naina’s Birthday

He gritted his teeth, but a part of him sighed in relief, thinking,

’If Lana is truly out here for money, I can give it to her as long as that is what she wants. It means I won’t have to end up in a police station.’

He nodded and told her the entire story.

Lana nodded and said, "Good. Now that you have accepted your crime, the police can take you happily."

Ezra’s eyes widened in surprise, and he asked, "What do you mean?"

But before Lana could answer, the police, who were hiding behind the open apartment door, immediately emerged, and they handcuffed Ezra, staring at him with a dirty look.

Ezra struggled; however, it was futile. The officers who were holding him were very strong.

Ezra gritted his teeth and looked at Lana. If even now he doesn’t understand the truth, he was nothing but a fool. He gritted his teeth and looked at Lana, saying,

"I will take revenge against you one day."

Lana laughed and said, "Then I am waiting for you."

With that, she nodded at the police officer in charge, who was shooting looks of admiration at Lana.

They truly couldn’t believe that Lana, even though being only twenty, was able to make the criminal give a statement and admit his crime and would even go as far as making sure that he was behind bars.

After Ezra left, Lana stayed in the room, which was still clouded with black fog, and narrowed her eyes, then she muttered,

’That woman truly doesn’t deserve to be a mother.’ With that, she snapped her fingers, and various mystical energy streams started to come out of her hands. They covered the entire place.

As the blue air started to clear up the black fog lingering in the room, she could hear a woman’s crying voice.

Even Mr. Crow could hear it, and he couldn’t help but ask Lana, "What is going on?"

Lana explained,

"The woman’s soul may have been completely exorcised, but a part of her soul may be lingering here. The local priest, or whoever had exorcised the ghost, was most likely only capable of dealing with half of it. Now, the remaining soul is so small that it can’t do much damage, and hence it can only give out constant cries of agony and misery."

Mr. Crow couldn’t help but look at Lana in slight surprise and ask, "How come you have so much knowledge?"

Lana laughed and said, "When it comes to a slightly mysterious case, there are many that I had solved on my own in my previous life."

Mr. Crow narrowed his eyes and asked, "Were you an exorcist in your previous life?"

Lana shook her head and said,

"I was a mercenary. In fact, I had my team, who used to escort people from one place to another. At that time, we used weapons and made sure to investigate everything. Therefore, I possess some fragmented knowledge about ghosts. I can’t claim I know ghosts very well, but I can indeed claim that there are hardly any things that I might not know about ghosts."

Mr. Crow nodded his head and said,

"You are truly one of the most dedicated task executors, considering that you took the mission, got a 5-star, and even made sure that the mission issuer was arrested and the ghost was exorcised."

Hearing those words, Lana laughed.

Mr. Crow then asked, "Then what about the guard? Why was he killed?"

Lana narrowed her eyes and said,

"It was most likely that the guard might have seen Ezra committing the crime, and Ezra might have threatened the guard."

Hearing those words, Mr. Crow frowned and said, "Ezra hadn’t told me that part."

Lana shrugged and said, "It was maybe because he thought that he needed to make sure that I don’t have many more handles on him."

Mr. Crow nodded his head as if understanding everything and looked at Lana in admiration. In terms of intelligence, she was truly smart... or, to be precise, a genius.

After returning to the university, Lana went through some of the missions and accepted one again.

However, instead of directly executing it, Lana took a day off and went to the address she and Naina had previously agreed on.

After all this, Naina had invited her to watch a movie, but Lana was busy and hence proposed that they should meet somewhere, and after meeting, they can leave.

After arriving at the cafe, which also had a private room, Lana was able to have a private conversation with Naina.

The moment Naina entered the private room, she was stunned to see that Lana was dressed up as if it were some kind of special occasion.

Lana couldn’t help but look into her eyes and ask, "Is today a historic day we should remember, or is today some kind of special occasion?"

Naina smiled and said, "Today is my birthday."

The moment Lana heard those words, she froze as if she couldn’t believe her ears.

She stared at Naina with wide-eyed eyes, asking,

"Are you joking?"

But when she saw Naina looking confident and even looking at Lana with a hint of expectation in her eyes, Lana paused.

Then, her hands subconsciously went to her pocket.

She looked at Naina with a grim expression and bowed, saying, "I haven’t prepared any kind of gift for you."

Hearing those words, a slight trace of bitterness appeared in Naina’s eyes.

Even Lana didn’t remember it. But when she thought about how she hadn’t told Lana about her birthday in the first place, she let go of the bitterness and heard Lana’s next word that almost touched her heart.

Lana said quietly, "From next year onward, I will remember it and even prepare a gift."

Naina smiled. For the first time, she looked forward to her next birthday.

Maybe by the next birthday, Lana would prepare some kind of gift for her.

A stuffed toy or a necklace, or even a perfume that Lana used, would be enough for her. After all, Lana’s fragrance was unique and attractive to her.
