Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes-Chapter 240: Four Hundred Million Dollars
’I’ve been reborn with such an opportunity... why stop here?’
She wanted more. She wanted to become a woman whose properties spanned the entire world.
With renewed determination, she contacted several construction companies, her voice calm yet decisive as she laid out her requirements.
Meanwhile, in the head city, the atmosphere was far less optimistic.
Mayor Magnus sat stiffly across from Celestial Master Hunter, the room heavy with silence.
"Any investments today?" Hunter’s voice was calm, almost indifferent.
Magnus shook his head slowly. "None. Investors believe the city won’t last long... not with the location so far from key cities."
Hunter, a middle-aged man with short black hair, dark eyes, tanned skin, and a tall, imposing build, smiled faintly. "There will always be someone willing to look further."
Magnus nodded, though worry etched deep lines into his face. He turned to leave, his steps heavy.
Hunter remained behind, gazing out at the sky, lost in thought.
Suddenly, the door was knocked, harder this time, urgent and brimming with excitement. Hunter turned.
Mayor Magnus burst in, his eyes shining.
"There’s an investor," He blurted out. "They’re ready. They want twenty acres of land... for two hundred million dollars."
Hunter’s smile faded.
He shook his head firmly. "We won’t shortchange ourselves. Four hundred million is the final price. I won’t go a single dollar lower."
Magnus froze, the words catching in his throat as he stared at Hunter with barely concealed disappointment.
"You really believe more investors will come?" Magnus exhaled slowly, his voice edged with strain.
"I don’t see the situation as optimistic at all. We should compromise a little. It’s only twenty acres." He spread his hands, palms slightly trembling.
"We own nearly five hundred acres. Losing twenty won’t hurt us. At least we’ll gain some capital."
He paused, swallowing hard. "Two hundred million dollars could do a lot for us right now." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Hunter remained unmoved.
He shook his head once, firm and resolute. "Four hundred million," he repeated, his tone flat and unyielding.
Frustration surged through Magnus. He took a step closer, his brows knitting together.
"For the past year, not a single penny has been invested in this land."
His voice grew sharper, desperation leaking through.
"From the way things look, nothing is improving. We’re running out of funds, and we’re already ten million dollars in debt."
The words spilled out faster now, like a dam breaking.
"If even one more day passes without an investor, we’ll face a serious crisis. By the end of this month, our debt will reach a hundred million dollars."
His fingers clenched into fists. "Wouldn’t it be better to sell twenty acres, clear our loans, and at least breathe again?"
Hunter stayed silent. That silence felt heavier than any refusal.
Seeing no response, Magnus’s shoulders slumped. His tone softened, exhaustion seeping into every syllable.
"I don’t want to force you." He sighed deeply. "I’m just telling you the truth."
He looked Hunter straight in the eyes. "Do you really believe someone will suddenly think this land is worth that much and invest without hesitation?"
Hunter still said nothing.
A bitter smile tugged at Magnus’s lips. "If you don’t agree," he muttered, turning away, "then think about it."
With that, he walked out, his footsteps echoing faintly in the corridor.
The door closed, and the room fell into silence.
Hunter stood there, unmoving.
Outwardly, he remained calm and composed, his face carefully schooled into indifference.
But inside, despair gnawed at him. ’Was this a mistake?’
The thought surfaced against his will. ’Opening this city... was it the wrong decision?’
For a fleeting moment, the idea of selling everything crossed his mind.
He clenched his jaw and shook his head sharply.
’No.’ He had worked too hard for this moment. Years of effort, countless sacrifices... he couldn’t back out now.
’Just one more day,’ he told himself repeatedly, as if the words alone could hold the city together. ’I’ll wait one more day.’
If, even after that, no investor appeared... then he would lower the price.
’Two hundred million,’ he decided grimly.
As the thought settled in his mind, Hunter’s gaze slowly drifted toward the setting sun outside the window.
The sky was painted in deep shades of orange and crimson, the fading light stretching long shadows across the room.
He let out a quiet sigh. The next day passed much like the previous one.
No investors.
For a brief moment, Hunter picked up his phone, his thumb hovering over the contact of the investor Magnus had mentioned earlier.
His finger trembled slightly as he dialed halfway... then stopped. Before the call could connect, he ended it.
’No,’ he thought firmly. ’Not yet.’
Something inside him stirred, a strange intuition whispering that something big was about to happen. Something in his favor. His heart urged him not to rush, and for once, he decided to listen.
Almost unconsciously, he opened the backend of the city’s official website.
He had set only one condition for land purchases, any buyer needed approval from their respective local police officer before the transaction could be finalized. Without that approval, nothing would appear in the system.
Unbeknownst to him, Lana had already contacted Naina, and through her, secured Monica’s approval.
The moment that approval went through, the purchase was processed smoothly in Hunter’s office records. Only after local authorization did the changes become visible.
Until now, Hunter hadn’t seen a single update.
But suddenly... A new entry appeared.
Hunter froze.
His breath hitched as he leaned closer to the screen, his eyes widening. He rubbed them repeatedly, convinced exhaustion was playing tricks on him. Then he checked again.
And again. There it was. Four hundred million dollars. For twenty acres.
His heart skipped violently. For a split second, he assumed the investor Magnus had mentioned had changed his mind and decided to invest more.
But the details didn’t match. The investor profile clearly stated the buyer was female.
"That’s... not the same person," Hunter muttered, his voice barely audible.
