Half-Hearted: Mr. Sinclair, Stop the Act!-Chapter 103: Vivian Nash Is Pregnant
Sienna Monroe slept particularly early and deeply last night, without losing sleep due to the tension and unease.
She woke up just past seven.
On a winter morning, the day breaks late. She pulled open the curtains, and the morning light was faint. A few lingering stars were still embedded in the pale blue sky, and a layer of mist enveloped the air, as if draping a veil over the earth.
In the far east, faint rosy clouds were beginning to appear.
Today was destined to be a bright weather.
She stood in front of the window, her eyes unfocused and gazing blankly at the scenery outside, her thoughts drifting far away.
After a while, she turned and went to the bathroom to wash up, then went to the dressing room to change into a set of slightly casual clothes. Her coat was a short white down jacket.
When she went downstairs, the lights in the living room and dining room were as bright as daytime, and there was noise coming from the kitchen.
She walked over and saw a familiar figure busy inside, and Auntie Miller seemed to be helping him.
Caleb Sinclair turned around with a plate and saw her, smiling as he welcomed her, "Honey, why are you up so early?"
"I went to bed early last night," Sienna Monroe replied gently, "What about you? What are you doing?"
"I’m consulting with Auntie Miller on how to make beef dumplings. I just finished a batch."
Caleb Sinclair placed the dumplings on the table, picked one up with chopsticks, blew on it, and brought it to Sienna Monroe’s lips, "Try it first. Eat slowly, be careful, it’s hot."
Sienna Monroe looked at the dumplings he had blown on, frowning, and couldn’t help but feel a strong sense of repulsion.
But she couldn’t refuse, so she took a light breath and, with the dedication of an "actor," took a small bite of the crispy edge.
Afraid that he might notice something amiss, she added, "The taste is not bad, but it’s a bit greasy. I can’t handle it. Is there any other breakfast?"
"That’s my fault, I just remembered that you loved beef dumplings during university, and forgot you’re pregnant now and can’t have greasy things."
Hearing this, Caleb Sinclair paused, and then sincerely admitted his mistake, stuffing the dumplings she’d eaten into his mouth, smiling, "I’ve made snow fungus and millet porridge, and fresh shrimp wontons are ready to be cooked. Just wait a little."
With that, he turned and went into the kitchen.
Sienna’s gaze lingered on the plate of beef dumplings, slowly sinking into contemplation.
She remembered that during university, there was a shop selling dumplings at the north gate, far from where Caleb’s finance department was located—it took twenty minutes by bike.
But at that time, to pursue her, he’d continuously bring her breakfast from the north gate for over a month.
The dumplings left the deepest impression.
Sienna Monroe could see his dedication, and also... his ulterior motives.
He intentionally sought traces of beautiful past memories, which was too heavy.
This method of trying to use past sweetness to compensate for current guilt was too annoying and foolish.
Suppressing the agitation in her heart, she sat down at the dining table and pushed the plate away.
Ding!
Her phone suddenly rang with a text message notification.
[At 8:56, Vivian Nash’s mother, Autumn Leigh, will pay at the hospital lobby. Today, Autumn Leigh will forcibly make Vivian have an abortion!]
Paying at the lobby, huh!
This was an excellent opportunity to meet Vivian Nash at the hospital without taking many detours.
However, what surprised her was Autumn Leigh’s resolute attitude.
Knowing that there’s a significant chance Vivian Nash won’t be able to conceive again after the abortion, yet still insisting she terminate the pregnancy.
This attitude was tantamount to a potent catalyst that would utterly drive Vivian into despair.
She chuckled wistfully.
Despair, huh.
She felt somewhat intrigued.
As she was lost in thought, Caleb Sinclair brought over a steamy bowl of wontons, along with a small bowl of porridge, and a small plate of blueberries and strawberries.
The wontons were plump, pinkish in appearance, and the filling was fresh and fragrant.
Perhaps knowing what was to be faced today, Sienna’s appetite was decent, finishing 10 wontons, a bowl of porridge, and all the fruit.
Seeing how much she enjoyed her meal, Caleb’s eyes brimmed with laughter, "If you like these wontons, I can make them for you again tomorrow morning."
Sienna merely acknowledged with a sound, without saying much.
After finishing breakfast, the two drove to Central General Hospital.
Today was Wednesday, and many specialists had clinics on this day, making the hospital bustling with people.
Caleb Sinclair, worried she might be bumped into, held onto her, his hands always cold, which she used to enjoy warming in winter.
Now...
She just wanted to pull away.
Sienna secretly ground her back teeth and restrained herself from pulling her hand away.
Auntie Rennick’s usual clinic numbers were gone months ago, and today she required a slip at the window.
But regardless of the registration or payment windows, there were long lines.
Sienna instinctively glanced at the time in the lobby; it was already nine o’clock.
They had caught the morning rush, and the car had been delayed on the road for about twenty minutes.
She quickly scanned the lobby and finally settled on a middle-aged woman with a payment slip, looking worried.
Vivian’s appearance closely resembled Autumn Leigh, especially the nose and mouth.
Very obvious.
During university, Sienna had vacationed in Serenvale during summer and winter breaks, staying at Vivian’s house for a few days.
The place was by the sea, with pleasant scenery, and in recent years, tourism had developed well, and the economy improved.
Vivian used to bring food made by Autumn Leigh back to school to share with her.
So Sienna was quite familiar with Autumn Leigh.
"Sienna, wait here for me, I’ll go get the number." Beside her, Caleb Sinclair, not noticing her mood, simply thought the hospital was too crowded today.
As soon as he spoke, Sienna ignored him, suddenly calling out to the woman in front, "Auntie."
Caleb turned, surprised, following her gaze to a woman in her fifties.
Autumn Leigh looked up and immediately froze, her face full of surprise.
"Are you... Sienna?"
Sienna smiled, "You still remember me, Auntie. It’s been a long time. I thought I was seeing things."
Autumn Leigh’s surprise gradually turned to delight, she laughed, "Of course I remember you, you were Vivian’s best friend. What brings you to the hospital today? Is this..."
"I’m here for a prenatal check-up," said Sienna, introducing, "This is my husband, Caleb Sinclair. Caleb, this is Vivian’s mom."
Autumn Leigh’s face and eyes were full of smiles, "Congratulations, congratulations. A talented couple, a perfect match."
Looking at her smiling face, without a hint of embarrassment or insincerity, Sienna thought she probably didn’t know Vivian was interfering in her marriage with Caleb.
After all, June Ewing certainly wouldn’t tarnish her own son.
And Vivian wouldn’t proactively mention it.
Destroying another’s home is certainly vile, but ruining her best friend’s marriage is purely loathsome.
Suppressing the irony within, Sienna gently and caringly asked, "Auntie, when did you come to Imperial City? I didn’t hear anything from Vivian, what brings you to the hospital, are you unwell?"
At the mention of this, the worry that had just faded from Autumn Leigh’s face returned.
She was also observing Sienna’s expression, guessing that Sienna probably didn’t know about Vivian’s role as the ’other woman.’
Even if they were the closest of friends, such shameful matters, especially for a parent, were hard to voice.
After hesitating for a while, she tentatively asked, "Sienna, do you know about Vivian’s boyfriend?"
"I do, why?" Sienna, aware of her concerns, feigned confusion. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Hearing this, Autumn Leigh sighed in relief, thinking what else could she do?
Now she could only speak about the unwed pregnancy.
Her looks were filled with concern, and she earnestly started, "Vivian is pregnant. I feel the boyfriend is not reliable, just a wealthy young master, not necessarily sincere, maybe just fooling around and will break up later,
I want Vivian to terminate the pregnancy, but she’s very resistant, insisting on keeping the baby. Can you help persuade her?"
Before Sienna could respond, Caleb heard everything clearly, as he was standing close, and Autumn Leigh’s words hit him sharply.
His heart dropped suddenly, along with the unease lingering there.
Vivian Nash is pregnant?
How could that be?
Every time they were together, they took precautions.
Even when they occasionally forgot protection, Vivian would take birth control afterwards.
His throat tightened, the air around seeming to thicken, his heartbeat stalled in that instant, amidst the warm, bright day, he somehow heard the crisp sound of blood freezing.
