Chapter 26: Let’s Get A Divorce

Eliana looked at the time on her phone and saw that it was 6 pm. She called Zach one more time, but the call went to voicemail again. At this point, she was starting to get worried, not only was Zach not answering his calls, but he was also not replying to her messages, and the same goes for Ryan. Should she call Charlotte and ask if Zach is still with her? No, knowing that woman, she will just be ignored.

"I should check on the food," Eliana said to herself and went to the kitchen. She opened the pot and smiled when she smelled the aroma of the food. "It’s a shame I can’t drink wine." She hoped Zach had not eaten dinner at his mother’s place. Now that she has quit her job, maybe she should become a full-time housewife, come to think of it, that doesn’t sound bad at all.

A noise in the living room brought Eliana out of her thoughts, she quickly turned off the gas and rushed to the living room in excitement because she knew Zach was finally back.

"Why didn’t you answer my..." Eliana’s remaining words disappeared as she saw her husband’s disheveled appearance. She frowned as she asked, "Have you been drinking?"

"Yes, but I’m not drunk, so don’t worry," Zach replied coldly and walked passed to the kitchen. He could perceive the aroma in the kitchen, so he knew she had cooked, but he just poured himself a glass of water and left.

Eliana held his hand when he walked pass her again and asked, "Didn’t you see my calls or messages? Why didn’t you call me back, I was really worried about you."

"Stop the act," Zach said as he forcefully removed his hand from hers.

"What? What act?" Eliana asked confused.

"Stop pretending to care about me. I thought you were different, but you are not, you are just like the rest of them. Did your father ask you to get into my bed, get pregnant with my child, and then marry me?"

"What nonsense are you saying?"

"When were you going to tell me that you were never adopted? Was it fun deceiving me? Did you and that monster you call a father have a good laugh seeing that I fell for you?"

He knew? But how? "Listen, Zach, I know you are angry that I lied to you by not telling you that I wasn’t adopted, but the only reason I didn’t tell you was because I didn’t see it as a big deal."

"You didn’t see it as a big deal? Do you have any idea how much I hate your family? Your father is the reason I lost mine, and if I had known that you were his daughter, then I never would have had anything to do with you!" Zach shouted causing Eliana to flinched.

What was he saying? How did her father cause his dad to lose his life? Eliana wanted to ask him for an explanation when she heard him say, "After the child is born, let’s get a divorce."

"W...what? You want a divorce, why? Because I am Henry’s daughter? You wanted to marry Amber when you thought she was Henry’s biological daughter and now that you know it’s me, you want a divorce? Why?"

"Did you think I was going to marry Amber? That I would tie my name to hers? My wedding to Amber was going to be a fake one, I never, not even once, wanted a relationship with Amber."

Eliana stared at him, and she could see hate in his eyes. The same eyes that looked at her with love earlier this morning now looked at her with so much hate just because she was related to Henry.

"I won’t give you a divorce, so forget about ever getting one," Eliana said with a clenched fist.

"You don’t have a choice, Eliana. Tonight, the Moore family will fall, and once our child is born, I want nothing to do with you," Zach said and was about to leave when he felt a gentle hold on his jacket.

"Don’t leave me, please. You and our baby are all that I have left, so please don’t leave me. I’m sorry for not telling you about my true identity but I didn’t think it was going to be such a big deal. I was exchanged at birth, and that woman made me do terrible things. She would leave me to starve, and whenever she brought her clients home, they would look at me lustfully, and it made me feel so disgusted. Grandma Moore found me and brought me to the Moore mansion and I thought my life was going to change but nothing changed, they never showed me love and felt that they would lose face if the public were to find out that they were careless with their child, so they decided to use me as a charity case and adopted me. The world praises them for picking a child from the gutter and changing her life, but they have never once treated me as their child. You were my first friend, and words from your letter became my comfort, I was fine with Amber taking away everything from me, but I couldn’t let her take you away, too." Tears were already streaming down Eliana’s eyes by the time she finished talking. Seeing that he hadn’t moved, Eliana hugged him from behind and said "Everyone else has left me, no one wants me Zach, will you also leave me? Will you abandon me like everyone else?"

Zachary just stood silently as he heard her sobbing, he slowly removed her hands from his waist and turned to her. Seeing the tears on her face made his heart ache, and before he knew it, he found himself cleaning her tears, but the more he cleaned them, the more she cried.

Eliana wanted to stop crying, but she couldn’t stop, and before she knew it, her vision became blurry, and everywhere became dark.

"Eliana, Eli!" Zachary shouted as his wife lay unconscious in his arms; he immediately carried her up to the room and called the doctor.

When Ethan came into the room with the doctor, he was surprised to see his boss looking like a madman, what could have happened to them?

Zachary looked at the doctor anxiously as he checked on Eliana and became worried when he sighed.

"What happened? Is she all right?" Zach asked anxiously.

"Both she and the baby are fine but she seems stressed out. Her blood pressure is a little bit high, and she needs a lot of rest. I will prescribe some drugs for her, ensure she takes them, and most importantly, get enough rest."

Zachary nodded and said "Thank you. My assistant will follow you out, give the prescription to him and he will go get it."

The doctor nodded and followed Ethan out.

Zachary looked at Eliana, who was still lying unconscious on the bed, and slowly walked towards her. He leaned forward to kiss her forehead as he whispered, "I’m sorry."
