Her Dark Desires-Chapter 29: Daughter-in-law
Lave Foundation
"The Catic sent you an invitation and wants you to give a speech at their annual event." Vivian, Charlotte’s assistant stated as she followed Charlotte to her office.
"The Catic? Do you mean those group of jobless old women want me to make a speech at their event? What nonsense!"
"They may be a bunch of jobless old women, but they are also influential," Vivian said. Vivian was a twenty-nine-year-old woman who landed her dream job when she became the assistant of Charlotte Sanders, and since then, money has never been an issue for her again.
"More influential than me?" Charlotte asked with a smile as she sat on her CEO seat.
"Of course not ma," Vivian replied.
"I do not have time to attend stupid events."
"Madam Lennox has said that if you attend, then she will invest Twenty million dollars in the Lave foundation?"
"Twenty million dollars? Tempting, but no. Last I check, I have two sons who can give me such an amount within the blink of an eye, so drop the topic and tell me what other activities I have for today."
Vivian nodded and crossed the Catic group event from her list. "Mayor Logan has asked to have a chat with you to discuss his way forward; according to him, he wishes to run for president."
"Has he gone mad? Does he think he has what it takes to become the president of this country? Ignore him. Enough about politics. Make it known that this year, the Lave Foundation will be awarding scholarships to only the best students, those with brilliant minds. We will only be supporting fifteen students."
Vivian nodded and noted it down. She looked at Charlotte and said, "Mrs Davis requested a meeting with you and I told her I would check with you before giving her a reply."
"Tell her my schedule is full. Next."
"Well, you also have..." Vivian stopped when she received a call from the secretary at the front desk.
She answered it and, after a while, said, "I will inform her right away."
"Sloane Moore wishes to meet with you and she is already waiting outside," Vivian said to Charlotte after ending the call.
"Sloane Moore?" Charlotte asked in surprise before she sighed "What does that woman want? Anyway, send her in and set up a meeting with the director of Sanders Museum. I will be holding this year’s collections."
Vivian nodded and left.
A few minutes later, Sloane proudly entered the office and sat down without even being told to.
"Is there anything I can help you with Mrs. Moore?" Charlotte asked, ignoring Sloane’s rudeness.
Sloane scoffed and replied "Is that even a question you should be asking? Do you think I didn’t realize that your family suppressed the news of Amber’s suicide? To be honest, I’m disappointed with you Charlotte. I thought you were a woman of class but seeing the way you so easily accepted that homewrecker into your family, it’s obvious I was wrong about you."
"But isn’t that homewrecker your daughter?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Adopted. If I had known she was going to be so much trouble, we would never have taken her in." Sloane said with disgust.
Her words made Charlotte frown as she asked, "Why have you come, Sloane? Is it to tell me how your opinion about me has fallen, not that I care anyway."
"Our husbands were once friends, and if not for Antonio, untimely....."
"Go straight to the point," Charlotte said coldly.
Sloane cleared her throat and said, "TM Entertainment and all of Henry’s other ventures are all on the verge of bankruptcy, and right now, only the Sanders can help us."
"If that is the case, then shouldn’t you be seeing Zach about this? After all, you are now his mother-in-law." Charlotte taunted.
"You owe me and Amber this," Sloane said
"I owe you nothing. It’s not my fault that your daughter was so useless that she couldn’t get Zach to fall in love with her even after being engaged to him for so long, and it’s not mine or Zach’s fault that she tried to commit suicide. What’s wrong, Sloane? Are you scared of going broke?"
"Is this how you planned to repay us? Henry and I supported you when your husband died, and now you wish to abandon us when we need you the most."
"Supported? Did you think that I never found out the truth? That it was Henry who set up Antonio and forced him to commit suicide! This is just the beginning, Sloane, because your family will burn to the ground, leaving only ashes, and perhaps this time, Eliana can be lucky enough to get rid of Amber forever; let’s just hope she cuts deeper this time around."
"Charlotte!" Sloane shouted. She could tolerate everything but not when it was against her beloved Amber.
"Henry and you thought I was some weak woman who didn’t know anything, but look at me now and then look at you. I’m better than you in all things, even when it comes to being a mother. I wonder what would happen if the world were to find out that Eliana isn’t adopted. Oh, I already feel sorry for our dear Amber."
"Who told you such nonsense?" Sloane asked in anger.
Charlotte smiled and said "Let’s forget about all that. To be honest, it no longer matters if Eliana is your real kid or your adopted kid, what matters now is that she is Zach’s wife, she is now a Sanders."
Sloane scoffed as she stood up. "I pity you, Charlotte. That girl will bite you just as she has bitten the hand of the family who took care of her for so many years."
"Even if she does that, it is no longer your business, is it? Eliana is now my daughter-in-law, she carries my grandchild in her womb and I may not love her but I definitely won’t let anyone hurt her, so let’s make something clear before you get out of my sight, neither you nor any of worthless family is allowed to hurt her because if you do, I promise that you wouldn’t be able to pay the price for a lifetime."
"You will pay for this humiliation." Sloane shouted angrily.
Charlotte laughed coldly and replied "I haven’t humiliated you yet, Sloane. But when I do humiliate you, you will feel it deep in your bones. Remember this day Sloane, because it is only the beginning of your downfall."
